OK I don't like leaving long comments but there are a few things you should know. Do not pour water onto over heating brakes. In some cases in can crack the discs or drums. If the handbrake works on the brakes that are hot then leave with hand brake off, air will circulate between disc and pad to cool quicker. You had already come down the hill if you had known the best thing to cool them is to run gently using little braking. That was definitely not the way to Matlock if loaded, best to run down A6 all the way. You had just come over 'Scratter' a notorious road and I know where you stopped it was Greaves Lane (B6465) Ashford in the Water. Did you spot the escape lanes going back up to Buxton on the A6? Your delivery was at Wardmans and that castle at 10:30 is Riber Castle, used to be a Zoo, don't know what it is nowadays. Building at 18:00 used to be a pub and it is built on both river banks with the river running clear under it, probably the only pub without a cellar! 🤣🤣If you come down again loaded just keep it in low gear down the dual carriageway at Taddington then it's no problem. Seen some terrible runaways down there before the escape lanes were put in. One ran away whilst the lower escape lane was being constructed and it collected a Toyota pickup and rode it up through the trees until it stopped, luckily the workmen were not in it, but was shocking to see the aftermath. OMG I'm such a nerd! Great video Darren and if I don't get you in time Happy Birthday for the weekend!
@Life_of_Darren Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the birthday wishes and the advice bud. Tbh I thought about staying on the a6 and going through Buxton but just followed the sat nav as haven’t been that way before and didn’t expect the hills to be so bad 🙈

@@Life_of_Darren Easy done when you don't know the area, made a bit of a boo boo myself trying to get on to the A41 in Bucks', followed sign for the place I wanted only to spot the 7.5t limit as I turned in. Too late not safe to back out so carried on, if I'd known could have gone south for a few miles and back up the A roads! Did you manage to see the famous Monsal Head Viaduct before the hotel on the right. 2 mins before you stopped.

Good video, hope you and your family have a good trip to the zoo, looking forward to the video hopefully no monkeys attack your car like mine a knowsley safari 😂

Omg that happened to me last time I went in the monkey area at Knowsley, the bugger jumped on my front window and ripped the seal and another bit off the car, cost me £110 to repair it 🙈🤣

I've delivered to the same place (Wardman's) but only in a rigid vehicle.
@Matt-di6nb Жыл бұрын
The last thing you want to do is pour water on them. It can crack the brake discs making it 1000 times worse because of the sudden change in temperature. If they are on fire then yes pour water anything on them but if not just leave them to cool down. Someone correct me if im wrong.

the truck had been stationary for around 15-20 before water had been applied, I don’t think the metal was hot enough to actually be affected by the water as the sensor gives you a warning inside the truck when it reached a certain temp before they get too hot,

I've just started my training on LGV, in fact I have my Theory & Hazard perception next week. I had intended doing Class 2 first and getting some experience before going on to do Class 1 but I am now considering going straight for Class 1. Do you have any advice or recommendations, I know there are many variables person to person so I accept there are no definitive answers.

easiest place to get hgv1 is join the forces i did 21 yrs and came out with 13 licenses incuding trainer and examiner plus other things
@Life_of_Darren Жыл бұрын
Go straight for class one as it will save you money in the long run by doing another test etc, at first the size of the trucks can be daunting but you get used to them pretty quick. Take your time and don’t rush, if your unsure on anything ask your instructor. I know it sound’s easier than it is but try keep your nerves down, most people make mistakes because their nervous, so when doing your training or exam try make friends with the instructor etc Good luck with your training bud

How do you know when the brakes are overheating? Is there a warning system in the cab or do they feel less effective?
@Life_of_Darren Жыл бұрын
Yes the truck has a warning when they reach a certain temperature to prevent brake failure etc. I’ve only every had it come on once before

Why didn't you pull the trailer out of the parking space it's easier to throw the straps over, you should have the ratchets fastened to the nearside of the trailer just in case you have to tighten them on route then you won't be in the line of passing traffic
