This seems inspired by Swedish mythology. As Kärrhäxan means "The Tar Witch". Skogsrå being a creature in nordic mythology known to be bewitching but dangerous. But having the Swedish spelling for it. And ofc Trolls. Always happy to see some nordic stuff that isn't Icelandic or Norweigan, but Swedish for a change. Althought they did still do Norweigan stuff with Pesta for example. The names of the king and the children are VERY typical Swedish xD

it is quite literally just a swamp witch, thats what the name translates to kärr means swamp häxan means witch I don't think its actually something from mythology, but simply just something they made for the game and gave a folkloric name

@@DGneoseeker1 She's actually very helpful to people from the myths, guardian/helper of some sort, but she has some ticks that makes her crazy. Maybe she's very possesive and if a man betrays her, she goes crazy, don't remember exacly. But in myth she usually is a good guy, until betrayed and she overreacts with vengeance.

The in-game context of the Skogsra is that she targeted a specific village, constantly luring men away with her beauty and ripping their hearts out afterwards for her own entertainment and I think to increase her power. It made the village go mad with fear and murder any black-haired women in the village. As the village started their own murder hunt inside their borders, the Skogsra continued to successfully lure men away every night. So she’s evil 100%, taking pleasure in killing and destruction to her own satisfaction. The boy (I think his name is Olle), is probably regretful in the sense of brutally murdering her, I guess. Earlier he did technically ‘murder’ a troll with his stone of light, permanently petrifying it and there was no issue. Honestly, my nitpick in the story is they didn’t quite explain the moral lesson behind the killing when they chose the Skogskra to be horribly villainous and would probably continue to be. Thus, I’m assuming Olle stabbing her multiple times was the bad thing to do, instead of blasting her with light.

Man, The Skogsra Boss has to be my favourite. Something about those haunting ritual drum sounds just gets me. From the buildup to the first sword strike, which the music does so a couple of times as the boss gets up again. The spells that she is saying, also makes me wonder what they mean. Awesome stuff!

In the game though, well, maybe she (or the village folk) were corrupted at some point by the bramble and things ended up like they did.

Even the men you mave to attack in robes are a couple brave men that decided to find her in the forest and she cut their chest open in order to feast on them and get stronger

Personally I feel like not enough respect is given to American folktales. Both Native and post Colonization and yes the Colonization ones count. They’re still folktales and they have the same flavor they just don’t have that age of Europe. Theirs the classics like the Thunderbird and even Paul Bunion who was a literal Giant Lumberjack who has an equally giant Blue Bull and together they made the plains of America and made the Mountains of America when him and The Bull had a friendly wrestling match.

@@xiiir838 Northern and Southern America have interesting tales that just aren’t as popular. The only popular ones people have common passing knowledge of are the Skin Walkers and the Windego. When I say passing knowledge I mean it because they’re just riddled with misconceptions. Personally though even though the image of a Windego having a deer skull for a head is pure pop culture it’s a wonderful aesthetic so I can’t be too irritated at least on that end.

I’m norwegian and I know a lot about Pesta. Pasta is the personification of the Black Plague. Pest is the Norwegian word for plague. She went from farm to farm and brought the disease with her. She carried with her a rake and a broomstick. If she went to a farm and used the broomstick it ment that everyone at that farm would die. If she used the rake it ment that some would survive. So when she use the rake in the game it means the gamer has a chance to survive. She also has a book that has the names of everyone who would die. And in norwegian folklore it’s a story of a man who was unintentionally helping pesta cross a lake in his boat. While he’s in the boat with her he realises who she is and ask her if his name is in the book, and she tells him that it is. Meaning he’s going to die.

@@krzysiekkaminski6702 No that’s all just something they made up. I at least haven’t heard any stories like that. The thing that makes her so scary is how mysterious she is. So it’s not really a lot to know about her. What I do know is that she doesn’t decide who lives or dies, that has already been decided in her book. The only thing she can do is decide if your death is going to be long and painful or short and without pain.
