One of the pleasures of golf is the sheer variety of courses available and many more courses like this one would surely add to that; not to mention the financial benefits of reduced maintenance etc. Without Gilly there to distract him, who's looking after Paul when he gets stressed by all the missed "must make" putts, I wonder?

I love Paul's positivity, barely 2min in , on the first tee..........*dog hits his tee shot* "Oh that's gone off right" "How far right has that gone doug" *Lester hits his tee shot* "Oh that's gone right aswell" "Dear Oh dear , could be a long day this" Love it !!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

I like this format. One tiny suggestion that might improve it and bring a little jeopardy if a five you pick the best tee shot and six the worst.

I think that's the difference between me & Paul. I set myself very low standards and fail to achieve them. Good entertainment from Doug again.

Glad to see we're doomed back Paul like a little bit of fresh air as regards to the course nothing wrong with a course being a bit raw I think it's how a course plays and the layout of the course not all manicured courses are good and more likely to be too dear for the normal players, great vlog dan and the boys looking forward to the rest of the week

The Forest course is 10 mins away from where I live and it’s as rustic as it gets! The upkeep is minimal but the green keepers struggle as they can only use minimal chemicals as they are governed by the New Forest National Park Authority on restrictions for what they can use, due to livestock roaming the course! But the greens in fairness are pretty good considering! Hope you all enjoyed it as it’s totally different than the norm!

I play a 9 hole course with pushed up greens that are like upside down saucers. The fairways are not well kept and we just put in champion Bermuda. I like this style of golf. A lot of people come to the house thinking they are going to go low and it frustrates them. Well done with the course choice.

Course conditions as those are not uncommon on many muni courses in rural America. I grew up on such a layout, and still feel it's the most pure form of golf. Unpredictable lies, bounces, hazards and clean greens w/varying speeds and unpredictable pin locations. Challenging yet great fun!

Got some tough greens there. I’d love to see some more “natural” courses, which should make playing them cheaper, which will allow more people access.

Very similar to Knole Park in Sevenoaks, deer roaming, loads of braken, and similar fairways bit more kept however.. .. That would be a great course for you to play.. Pretty sure Wilbur played an event there a while back.. Definitely my favourite course other than my home club

Nice vlog. I like this format. I like it when a course is left like that and when its well looked after, both offer a different challenge. If a club needed to save money that's a good way to go. Good golf played by all

We call it a cricket pitch in Aussie. Tough approaching greens, you have to have your distance control just right.

Like the raw course, play Wrangaton and Yelverton which are both moorland. One of which is highly priced in comparisons to some park land courses… which when you ask the cost of maintaining its very interesting
@nelsonjames12722 жыл бұрын
Well the big 3 and others used to call places like St. Andrews a cow pasture until they figured out the challenge and beauty of a different game within the game that they we used to. If the greens are good, there’s a game.

There is a fine line between low maintenance and un-maintained. Raw vs cheap. The states like green and kept, but I understand your question.
@iainmartin10152 жыл бұрын
I do think there is a place for this type of course as it brings it's own challenges. There would need to be 'placing' all year round though. I bet it's a lot more work that you think keeping a course looking natural.
@rogertitcombe18702 жыл бұрын
Would be difficult to servive Dan I think if 'raw courses' became a thing. TV shows perfect set ups and conditions which has made us golfers want simular at our own clubs. Would be an interesting trial for 6 months though 😉, club GM phone would not stop ringing 😂

If you liked this course you should try New Forest course in Lyndhurst & Burley Golf club they are the same, you will quite often get to the tee & find a horse rolling around in the bunker just to make the shot that little bit tougher.

I think the raw look is neat and works fine over there not so sure how it would work here in US
@davidpollard39212 жыл бұрын
I have played the course late one summer and it was great However, leaving a course as wild as this must depend on its locality. This is effectively a course laid out on its natural terrain, whereas many other courses are man made and I can't see some parkland courses just being left to the sheep etc to keep them in good condition and remain playable. This is fairly unique course and a truly beautiful one

Nice start, I would be happy with 2 pars and a birdie any day. The course? A bit too rough for me tbh. These types of unkempt fairways but mowed greens have their places I am sure and some people will like them but splitting the fairway then met with a second shot that looks like semi rough isn't something I like tbh. We try and hit fairways because the game is easier from the short grass, we practice to get that and then we play from the semi. Nah

I love the look of those type of courses! Unfortunately anything here 🇨🇦 that looks like that is viewed as a crappy course. You’re right that it would save a lot of money to have it like that, which could be passed along to golfers. Paul has to be the least happy Scramble golfer on Earth!

Personally I prefer the more manicured or engineered courses. That’s not to say that natural environments shouldn’t be allowed, but to me the challenge of a purpose-designed and maintained course is key.
@grahamtomlin32722 жыл бұрын
I agree with you Dan, unless the golf courses are perfectly manicured then members will complain like hell on the other hand if the club lets societies and guests play they also moan. There is little understanding for the cost of maintaining a golf course to a standard that is “acceptable”, unfortunately television has set an unrealistic expectation in many peoples minds as to what condition courses should be. I love playing course like this one it’s real golf not artificial golf.
@FrankBrickle2 жыл бұрын
The conditions here are not all that different from the course I grew up playing. It's nice for a change every now and then but slightly better grooming is, well, somewhere between a luxury and a necessity.

You guys should really be making a roll of five require the worst drive and a roll of 6 allow the best drive. That's the way I've seen that game played anyways.

First I think if you roll a 6 it should be worst ball, but didn't you play another rough type course that had cows roaming the course and the greens had wire around them. Can't remember the name.

Just putting this out there. The US PGA is boring, sanitised golf because of how they setup the courses for most events. Watering greens so the ball stops dead even for a 2 iron just forces courses to be lengthened. I play country courses where we can't afford to water fairways and rough is just rough. I enjoy the DP tour more than the PGA. The 2 majors I love are the Open and the Masters 🤣🤣
