That is very true. "The ratios of the different amino acids in the dietary protein must be about the same as the ratios in the body tissues if the entire dietary protein is to be fully usable to form new proteins in the tissues. If one particular type of essential amino acid is low in concentration, the others become unusable because cells synthesize either whole proteins or none at all, as explained in Chapter 3 in relation to protein synthesis. The unusable amino acids are deaminated and oxidized" -Textbook of medical physiology by Arthur guyton" Having said all of that, there are some suggestion or speculations that bcaa can PREVENT muscle breakdown during exercise (I don't think anyone is suggesting it builds muscle because you need all the other essential amino acids to synthesize new protein, but suggesting it may prevent muscle breakdown a little bit is fairly reasonable opposition). The reason for that, when you exercise the BCAA in the muscle get depleted rapidly and by ingesting BCAA during workout, you burn the bcaa you ingested as fuel instead of the muscle bcaa. So theoretically the BCAA you ingested get sacrificed and the muscle bcaa get spared. Same reasoning applies for fat burning and insulin. In the presence of carbohydrates and insulin, your body utilize carbohydrates as primary fuel source instead fat. That is why insulin is called a "fat sparer" or "fat-sparing" hormone in the literature. Insulin stimulates glucose uptake virtually in almost all cells and there is no need to burn fat when excess glucose is available because the energy demands of the cell is already provided by the glucose through insulin. There are some evidence that BCAA can improve mental fatigue which enhance your perfomance during your workout. During workout BCAA in the blood drops which increases the ration of L-tryptophan/BCAA-quota. L-tryptophan increases seratonin which makes you more mentally calm and tired which is suboptimal for performance. L-tryptophan and BCAA compete for uptake over the blood-brain barrier and by taking BCAA during workout you can improve L-tryptophan/BCAA ratios and more BCAA get taken up then L-tryptophan, this decreases the seratonin levels in the brain which improves mental fatigue and there by perfomance. -"Advanced nutrition for universities by L. Abrahamsson, A. Andersson, G. Nilsson" Conclusion: So BCAA may improve your performance which then lead to better muscle building, but it's more indirect effect then direct effect on the muscle. More research is needed but some evidence are present.

The BCAAs especially leucine are potent stimulators of mTOR so will stimulate hypertrophy. Although the EAAs make up muscle, the anabolic or catabolic signalling will have a huge effect on whether muscle will break down or build up. mTOR from the BCAAs/Leucine is one such anabolic signal.
@pacojavo2978
@pacojavo2978 4 жыл бұрын
I was just about posting the same clarification; coildn"t agree more with you. The muscle growth equation has three pieces: 1) Just enough, NO more, stimuli (training) so you can recover faster and give sooner another stimuli. 2) Good recovery (night sleep, naps, massage, hot or cold baths.....everyone has to find what works for their bodies) 3) Nutrition. Regarding nutrition, ALL supplements are the cherry on the cake NOT THE CAKE! They should be viewed as tools for complementing not replacing food. Yes, they can also be anti-catabolic as pointed out in the video, and I also agree that they DON'T build muscle by themselves on their own. They, specially Leucine, trigger and amplify the mTor pathway to increase the natural anabolism induced by training; but you need WHOLE food and a little caloric surplus in order to build muscle. The problem is that people like digested, unidimensional and simplistic answers. Regarding "burning them as fuel", the energy or stamina perceived does NOT come from the as energy providers but becayse of their effects on brain neurotransmiters. Hence the central fatigue theory.

How about the induction of protein synthesis? Do your research, Wolfe (2017) and Sousa Santos (2019) analysis showed that it stumulates protein synthesis, though its not effective if not taken with EAA's. Even if the synthesis is activated by BCAA's, if theres no other essential amino acids in the plasma it will not help, so that means its good to drink BCAA's together with protein or EAA's and post-workout, rather that pre-workout for those who what to gain muscle mass. Leucine apparently stimulates muscle protein synthesis after resistance physical exercise; however, as with other BCAA, the full range of EAA must be available in levels that will not promote competition for cell carriers or limit their action. (Sousa Santos, 2019)

we are not using it alone to promote protein syntheses we are using it between meals to re-elevate protein syntheses again that's mean we are using it with protein its matter of timing usage to get the maximum benefits without adding too much calories , and we use EAA if we are in fasted state rather than BCAA alone we are not doing the same regular people do we train real hard and we eat more frequently than regular people and we use BCAA for elevate recover as i describe and sometimes we use it to help not be tired only by using it during the workout that in our preparation time because we lower our calories and we use any ingredient can help without adding more calories . we know you are talking with sick people or people damaged their metabolic system and insulin sensitivity that really need to fix their system first but what you are saying not a good strategy for regular bodybuilders that have everything working fine in their metabolic system but also that not mean we shouldn't take care our health as long as we are good now always i prefer to do protein cycle and carb cycle also i do keto with fasting a lot time to time also every 3 to 6 months i fast for 3 days (water fasting) to keep everything in check.

We need a study on a keto diet, after fasting, running treadmill while simultatneously measuring VO2 max and taking BCAA intraveinously. Then we might know if BCAA works. The benefit is BCAA can go into the muscle for energy without needing a meal or insulin release. Great if you are going from one hard workout to the next without time to recover, or if you are cutting cals to lose body fat.

I use BCAAs, and swear by them. They may not build muscle by themselves, but They allow you to work out longer with heavier weight. That, plus a bodybuilding diet will build muscle. It’s not a miracle drug like steroids, but it’s definitely a viable option if you’re trying add 5 lbs of muscle. Also, They’re really helpful in maintaining muscle when reducing calories during a “cutting phase”. Now, there is a debate about the differences between BCAA and taking a full spectrum amino acid supplement, just in my own personal experience the BCAAs work a lot better.

Bcaa don't work Eaa work. I can attest that eaa work because I had a very bad calf sprain and I took eaa but also did some therapy on it and it was way better in a few days, it still had a little bruising but I could walk on it and it was 90% recovered in a week.

I used to think that if there are 9 aminos that are essential, why am I supplementing with only 3 of them? So I switched from BCAAs to EAAs. Then I stopped using EAAs because I suspect that EAAs are either counted against my protein on keto, or they spike insulin and will kick me out of ketosis. I can't find verification for these two thoeries anywhere, so to be safe instead of sorry, I just don't use EAAs anymore.

Hey Dr. Berg! If you don’t suggest glutamine or BCAA supplements, what would you suggest doing for muscle recovery for athletes. I do interment fasting as an athlete but my body takes a toll more than most. Thanks!

Did you find anything as an alternate yet, Teras? Both have helped me tremendously with recovery. I get really bad DOMS without it and I'm not training that hard either. I'm just seriously middle-aged, and now I have this issue.

BCAA's are touted to stop muscle catabolism. BUT, leucine and tryptophan compete when crossing the blood brain barrier. As a result you end up not sleeping as the tryptophan isn't converted into serotonin, etc. Leucine does trigger mTOR though.

Can I take amino acids if I don’t workout
@WakeyUpPeople
@WakeyUpPeople 5 жыл бұрын
People dont take bcas to grow muscle, they take it, when training in a ketabolic state to boost the amino acid pool in the blood, and thereby give the body extra fuel, without it having to catabolise/eat muscle. Ive tried them. Minimal difference but a little is a lot if your training hard. The bcca powder in berry blast makes a delicious intra workout boost on a big session.

I dont really understand Dr. You are saying, that all the descriptions on the uses and benefits of Both BCAA's and or EAA's are false? For example, they do not, promote muscle synthasis? Thats a big statement.

BCAA's can cause problems like prediabetes and insulin disergulation. That's because insulin is an anabolic storage hormone that responds most accutely to the consumption of BCAA's. If you've got a family history of Type II diabetes, your best bet is to get most of your protein from plant sources like beans or mushrooms, because they are lower in BCAA's.
