K, it's your ride. Get your petals out and lay them in the aisle Pretend your garden grows and it's your day to wed. We found your man, he's drinking up, he's all-American. And he'll drive. He's volunteered with grace to end your life, We'll tidy up, It's sad to hope, but leave your shell to us, You explode, You firefly, you tiny boat with oars, Feather oars. The world tilts back and poison pours. And so, you satellite. You tidal wave, you big surprise. And I one more night to be your mother. This signal interrupts, Baby's frequency's not strong enough. Remade my hands and smile. We will miss you but in time you'll get set up, We will write! A beauty supreme, yeah you were right about me, But can I get myself out from underneath this guilt that will crush me, And in the choir I saw a sad messiah, He was bored and tired of my laments, Said, "I died for you one time but never again." (never again) [2x] Well I love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) One'll love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) Two'll love you so much, but do me a favor baby, don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) Three'll love you so much, but do me a favor, baby don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) Four'll love you so much, but do me a favor, baby don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) Five'll will love you so much, but do me a favor, baby don't reply, Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) Six'll love you so much, but do me a favor, baby don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) Seven loves you so much, but do me a favor, baby don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. (never again) I said loved you so much, but do me a favor, baby don't reply. Because I can dish it out, but I can't take it. This is about something that happened like a town over from me (brand new is from my town, and event to my high school). There was a family in a limo on their way to a wedding and a man got in his car, drunk, and decided that after a fight with his girlfriend, he was going to kill someone or himself, and he drove down the wrong side of the road and crashed into the limo. The mother and father survived but the little girl ( I think she was about 9) was decapitated.

Dammit! I wanted to hear Jesse do the solo acoustic! That's what the whole song is about! The build up to the fucking epic ending!
@Radiohead1732110 жыл бұрын
I like to think the lyrics are a lot more important than the guitar solo. I don't even remember the guitar solo you are referring to, but I will never forget the lyrics.
@rlobbest10 жыл бұрын
Wow. You're COMPLETELY missing the point of the song. The lyrics detail a story and the ending guitar solo after the lyrics is the big emotional payoff! The bands friend Mike (forgot his last name) added explosions into the song there at the end. That ending is supposed to be an instrumental representation of the crash that killed Katie Flynn and inspired this song in the first place.
@Radiohead1732110 жыл бұрын
If that is true what you say about the explosion involving the guitar solo, did you really expect that from an acoustic performance? haha
@rlobbest10 жыл бұрын
No, I didn't expect the explosions in an acoustic performance, but what I was trying to say is that that solo at the end is still part of the song and has just as much significance as the rest, even without the explosions. But I did expect Jesse to rip out an awesome solo.
@Radiohead1732110 жыл бұрын
I don't really care anymore. You want the guitar solo go listen to the studio version, last time I checked it's still there.

What Larry said, this happened very close to where Brand New live, and it wasn't just an accident, a drunk driver hit them on the wrong side of the parkway, they probably also wanted to raise awareness.
@ceeb4208 жыл бұрын
I believe I read somewhere Jesse was really hit hard by the event because it was near where he lived, and because he knows he had friends who drive drunk and it made him feel worse about the whole situation. (Also mentioned in the first line of the album on Sowing Season, "I'm losing all my friends. Losing them to drink and to driving.")
@HolidayKirk8 жыл бұрын
Woa. I'm sorry for the loss of your cousin and have no right to commentate on how you would feel about this song rather than those of us with no direct connection to the tragedy but I honestly don't think anything exploitative in this song. It wasn't released as a promotional single and clearly has no radio play potential. I think this is a very valuable work that brings the tragic and cautionary story to the ears of millions of people every single year. Personally this song, and album, contributes greatly to my resolve to never allow myself or someone else to get behind the wheel of a car inebriated because of how it personalizes the story. I do not ever want to contribute, directly or indirectly, to another's death because of drunk driving. I imagine lots of others feel the same way.
@lolgal19968 жыл бұрын
it was actually written to make the devastating effects of drunk driving more clear in society and why drunk driving is something horrible. the accident occurred in long island, where jesse's from, so the accident kind of hit home for him so he wrote this song about the accident to commemorate the death of katie.
