Thanks Adam for the tutorial. I tried LbF a while ago but as you mentioned, they were using virtualization at the time, which is a no-go for me. I may try it again now that they have abandoned that. That said, for me, anyway, Laragon is THE local server for Windows! It is completely independent of your computer and installs nothing; it's self-contained. Runs great on a USB stick. Additionally, with the latest version, there is the clone feature where you just select the site you want to clone and it does all the rest, automagically :) I cannot recommend it enough for Windows users. Plus it is really fast! As for migrating to a host, All In One WP Migration has never failed me.

I run Laragon also because of your recommendation and I run it on an external SSD. Not super quick but way faster then the Past versions of FW. But, because I am curious I am going to try this new beta version because I loved everything about FW, but like so many others, it just did not get along with my computer.

Started with Xampp, moved to Flywheel Local, great improvement! Moved from Flywheel Local to Flywheel Ligntning. Wow! It lives up to the name. It is fast.

@@techcanyon411 I'm not qualified to say technically how it differs but, I can say that it is much faster and to all intents and purposes it has the same UI as Local. The advantage of Lightning is load speed and with something like "All-in-One WP Migration" plugin going live is a doddle.

great info. was a former user of MAMP Pro, speed is not so bad on my old Mac air. nginx is faster than apache for sure. would love to see some local backup and restore action on the final release. this would really help get new users on board with zipped content / db files. easy enough to do as the wp-config. php file contains the user, password & database - so you could really make it simple. the rename domain is crazy easy. no more having to drop down to mysql & writing update wp_posts replace x,y,z... etc.

Great news Adam, Will try it just now. Local had the best looking interface and was super easy to choose/switch between sites. Virtualbox issues stopped me using it and it kept forcing nginx server even in custom environment. Divi 4 uses a lot of PHP resources to load its layouts, and it does not look possible manually increase the settings in Lightning. Any ideas? Keep up the great channel.

Thanks Adam, the new local is really fast. However, I am finding it difficult to get my imported sites from the old local by flywheel to work in the new local. I keep getting a 404 error. Can you do a video showing how you export sites from the old local by flywheel into the new local and getting it to work? Thank you

Adam, can you tell us how to enable PHP extensions on LocalByFlywheel? I'm running across a plugin error and the dev says, "The PHP Fileinfo extension isn’t enabled on your server". How would I go about enabling it?

At WordCamp Europe this summer I was told by Local by Flywheel, that they where working on a way to transfer the finish website from local to the clients hosting, any hosting, not just flywheel. I hope that comes soon, so I don't need a import plugin to transfer.

Can I use Local Lightning instead of XAMPP to practice with other type of sites that use PHP/MySQL but they are not Wordpress sites ? I had a horrible experience trying to install XAMPP on my mac and I was hoping Local might be an alternative solution to XAMPP. Let me know your thoughts please.

Yeah I had to do that. So I exported all my sites and then imported them into the new version, then I removed local and virtual box.

Was using Local in the past but it was too slow to be of any use to me. Been trying this version and it is super fast. I will be using this from now on as it can only improve bearing in mind this is a beta version.

Yeah I think some of the core functions are not innate yet and over time they'll bring those back in. There is an update out today in fact that brings a database admin experience.
