what timing. I'm literally building a blueprint site in Local when I saw this video. Something to note; when creating that first WordPress username, that will become the default admin. If you push this to a production site, that information (including email address) will become part of the live site. Make sure to create a 2nd admin account with real credentials, or be prepared to update that initial account with real credentials, or you might have a hard time accessing the site in production.

The Duplicator plugin may be of interest to you. I use it to keep an upto date WP template with all my plugins, settings etc which I upload to a new site, saving me many hours.

InstaWP is what I generally use these days, but cloning on your final hosting destination also has positive benefits. If you’re building there, you’re pretty much guaranteed for the end result to work as there’s no change in server environment between dev and live.

If I have three clients to design a website for and I have my single laptop.Does it means that for each of the clients I will have to download wordpress three times locally for them for me to be able to design their website for them? @@abrahaminiobong1937 you just to create 3 sites in LocalWP and each will be a standalone copy that you can work on through Local. You don’t need to physically download and install it. That’s effectively what Local does for you.

Anything is possible, but it comes down to "is it a good solution/idea" and your technical abilities. As you've asked, you'd have to sync each Local install DB...don't... Path of least resist ace is to set up on your office PC and VPN to it... Don't use RDP... Use WireGuard for a fast and secure solution.

No, if you follow the migration steps it will replace the existing site with the site you’re migrating from Local.

Would SO love to use this but I've never been able to keep it working right on Windows for very long. Even lost a project that was nearly completed because Local took a big dump for some reason. Even so, it's been a while. Might try it again... but be warned that this can happen and I wasn't the only one it happened to, nor was the forementioned the only time.

I had lots of problems in Windows when I tried Local years ago. It does seem more stable on the Mac so far, but I agree that it's not perfect.

Windows System Restore should be your 1st stop. If that doesn't work, use an older restore point and if that still doesn't work, restore from a system image. :)

I couldn't get Local to work and gave up on it but someone said try to switch to Apache I put PHP 8.3.0 and Maria Database, don't know if these settings are good or not but it seems to be working, and what came out of the box when I downloaded it to my computer wouldn't run, had to keep downloading the database when I fired it up the next day.... hope that helps

Q1. This will depend on the plug-in your using. Each Dev handles this differently. Q2. I assume you want a staging version of a live site ? In my experiance it's highly beneficial to have the staging environment on the same infrastructure as the live site, this minimises issues with things like NGNX and Apache or different PHP versions etc.

This is using self hosted WordPress. If you’re using .com they have limitations on what plugins can be used or if you’re in a lower plan, you can’t install any plugins.

Easy troubleshooting step - create a new user account called Test or Dev etc, redownload the file and see if it works there. If it does, either the original download is corrupt or your user profile is corrupt.

@@NealUmphred555 Also by having the WP site hosted, you offload lots of security and performance to the host, and you can do live performance testing as you build, using tools like GTMetrics. Basically good hosting is what I strongly recommend for WP live sites and staging.
