👋 Hey everyone, If you're reading this, it’s likely because a small comment in one of my videos about evolution sparked something within some of you. This has led to various reactions and discussions. To avoid repeating the same explanations and because the comments section isn’t the best place for nuanced discussion, I’ve decided to pin this response. ✝ Including "worship drummer" in my video titles opens the door to discussions from various viewpoints, and I’m willing to engage in these discussions in a healthy, respectful way. For deeper conversations, I invite you to join our Discord (link in the description) and even shoot me a private message if you'd like. ❌ I've noticed some have chosen to unsubscribe from the channel due to differing beliefs. While I respect everyone's choice, I want to remind everyone that the identity of this channel is not tied to the number of subscribers. It's rooted in shared musical interests, mutual understanding, and promoting harmony. If differences in belief lead to unsubscribing, it ultimately strengthens the community's core values. I'm fully confident in my beliefs, which are informed by both science and spirituality. Many people have preconceived notions about Christians. To address some of these, I have a podcast episode explaining how I came to believe in Jesus and commit to living out His mission (I’ll link it here - www.buzzsprout.com/979429/9945642 - available on all podcast platforms). But to address the assumptions directly: I was an atheist until I was 22. I read Darwin. I was deeply involved in secular studies. I was a 32nd degree Master Mason and Grand Lecturer by the age of 20. I've explored various belief systems, enjoyed life in various ways (both legal and illegal), and faced my share of challenges (including run-ins with the law). A significant reason for my current beliefs is my study of the Bible from an apologetics perspective-analyzing the science, fulfilled prophecies, the authority of Scripture, the resurrection of Jesus, and the origins of the Earth. 🌎 So yes, I do believe in evolution to an extent-that God created man (that we did not evolve from apes), animals, and all things, and from there, we've evolved to adapt to our environments. However, I do not believe the Earth came about by chance, nor do I fully subscribe to the idea that one species can evolve into an entirely new one. Regarding the Earth's age, whether the "days" mentioned in Genesis 1 are literal 24-hour days or symbolic of longer periods since God exists both in and outside of time, is something I'm still exploring. No matter the age of the Earth, it does not change my personal experiences with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Whether you believe the Earth was created in seven days or came about through billions of years of cosmic events, we all exercise a bold amount of faith. This post isn’t for debates; that’s what our Discord is for. But if you choose to comment disrespectfully, remember that thousands will see it. Negative comments hidden behind anonymity do not contribute to healthy dialogue. ❤ I hope this clarifies things and invites more understanding. I appreciate every single one of you being part of this community. Hopefully, this can be a place where people from all walks of life and beliefs can coexist in a loving, respectful way. Thanks. 💙 Teck 🧡

An excellent response to the secular view. As someone who followed a similar path as yours, I too was heavily involved in secular views of the world. I came to Christ at 29 years old and agree with your view of evolution. God has made changes in species along the way, but one species does not evolve from another. Tuomas is a confirmed humanist (atheist?). During their Endless Forms Most Beautiful tour, they even had Richard Dawkins come out and read the ending quotation used in The Greatest Show on Earth. That said, he is an amazing composer and the band is incredible. I take his lyrics with the appropriate grain of salt. Floor's vocals on all the latest albums are stunning. I do miss Marco for the male vocals.

Interesting though, why must someone claim their “God view” position in the middle of a song? I don’t care about anyone’s views, they are entitled, none of my business, nor are mine anyone’s business. A song is not the place to challenge the creator’s deeply held beliefs of the universe. That is always the problem with the entitlement of the religious! They WILL TELL YOU, as what they did to all native people, topped with stealing, killing, & abuse! See no signs anything is any different in the 21St century as Christian’s demand once again dominance over all!

Kai said that this way of mixing Floor vocals in the chorus was intentional. Her voice in the chorus is a part of the choir because she is singing: "We are their heir, dust on their palm We are because of a million loves We're the perfume of the timeless" For me it is cool thing to do :)

The song itself is a masterpiece, though. Again. =D Thanks for the reaction. And even though with 'other visions', thanks for an open minded perspective. It is much appreciated. oh! Also.. I am a proud member of the Nightwish army, and the fact that floors vocals at times seem like they are in the background is totally fine with me because I think this song is more about the voices of everyone that came before them and so to me, it’s not that big of a deal and I listen to the song on KZbin and I personally think her vocal stand out in a lot of partswe all know the floor does not have a problem taking backseat and by the way if Marco was still in the band, I would’ve wanted Troy to sing that last part …. He just reminds me of Father time for some reason you know he has that look of wisdom so I think for him to close the song out was so appropriate and that’s taking nothing away from Marco.

I love the opening thoughts of this one... that for you to exist, just in the last 400 years you would have needed over 4000 ancestors... 4000 in 400 years for you to be- you. I'm a native to the USA, but my blood is Irish and German. I got to go to Ireland and stand on the soil where my ancestors are from. Today, it's a spot of grass outside of a small, rural town in south central Ireland, but just standing there was an out of body experience... thinking of all those that came before me that took up swords and fought and bled and many who died to defend their clans, their wives and children, and that all those ancestors of mine did that in part... for me. It's extremely humbling and it makes you extremely greatful, not wanting to waste a moment of what all those people fought and died for... so you could exist and be you. Tuomas is such a genius to work this into song... our Metal Mozart.

A few FYIs....the transition to the power section was a pan pipe, played by Troy Donockley, who also provided the male lead vocals and harmonies (and that incredibly emotional vocal outro). The overarching theme explored by Tuomas is that the one thing responsible for creating and maintaining ALL life is....water. The power section also references the theory that all the necessary ingredients for life to begin were brought here by the millions of meteors and comets that fell to earth billions of years ago. The closing sequence underscores the fact that all life will ultimately return to the earth or sea to provide sustenance for future generations. While I understand that this is counter to your personal way of thinking about 'origins' (which is in itself a 'theory'), there are many ways in which both can co-exist. Ultimately, none of that diminishes the absolute scale and grandeur exhibited by this incredible production. Stay well.

The last 3 albums "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (2015), "Human. :II: Nature" (2020) and "Yesterwynde" (releases in september 2024) are part of a trilogy based around Earth evolution and human evolution, science and humanism and the nature we know, so as you said you will most probably not agree with most of the messages on those albums, but that doesn't change that you are able to appreciate the music. "Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (2015) is based on Richard Dawkins book of the same name. It is based around science and reason. Focusing on the evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin and Richard Dawkins, the latter part of the album cites passages from their books. "Human. :II: Nature" is as the title suggests based on themes around human, their feelings and how they've lived as part of nature. Holopainen has described the album "Yesterwynde" as being about humanism, history, and the inspiration thereof, and that outlook of the album is positive and optimistic.

@teckreactions
@teckreactions 20 күн бұрын
I see where you're coming from, but I don't quite agree. In my belief, based on the biblical perspective that humans were given dominion over Earth and that there's an ordained order to things, Earth cannot achieve perfection without humans. I don't believe this planet can, will, or was ever meant to return to a state of initial perfection. As a Christian, I hold to the biblical view that the Earth will eventually be "recreated." Whether it's the recreation mentioned in Revelation or the concept of backward evolution, whatever perspective you hold, it seems likely that things may worsen before they improve.

Great reaction! As others have mentioned Floor's levels in the chorus are designed to match the level of the choir because she is representing one of our ancestors and so she is equal to all the other ancestors and shouldn't stand out. Not the first time I struggled with understanding Nightwish lyrics from a diction point of view. As I listen again and again I hear more of the lyrics and learning them makes it easier to hear them. The musical style at the end is very reminiscent of Tuomas's (along with Troy and his wife Johanna Kurkela) side project Auri. Beautiful atmospheric music. I highly recommend the songs The Space Between, Desert Flower, and The Valley. Male voice at the end is Troy Donockley. Not sure you have reacted to a song with him in it yet. He became an official member of teh band at the same time as Floor but had been a guest musician on Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum. He is English and comes from a traditional/folk background. His previous band was a prog folk band called Iona. Mostly known for his playing of the Uilleann pipes and Irish whistles but he plays a bunch of other instruments as well. He also sings, mostly in that folk style, Mostly backing vocals but he did sing lead on the song Harvest from the Human Nature album. A beautiful song about life with a traditional/celtic feel. I discovered Nightwish right about the time Human Nature came out in 2020 and IMHO it is one of their best albums. It truly show their growth and maturation as musicians and composers. Highly recommend doing a full album playthrough. Because the album came out right before the pandemic hit, they couldn't tour in support of it so they ended up releasing high quality lyric videos for each song on Disc 1 except for the official music video for Noise. Once you have done that then I highly recommend reacting to Disc 2's All the Works of Nature which Adorn the World. It is a beautiful 30 minute orchestral piece in eight movements that truly shows Tuomas's genius as a composer. There is a fan made, band approved, music video that goes with it that is perfectly matched. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJ-ylYRrjLONgM0si=oEfxpt3Au7J08XqA.

Tuomas writes and composes around themes. And they evolve, or take the same theme but from a different angle. It's definitely worth listening to "Endless forms most beautiful" then "human nature" and then this song. You'll see the links. another great time in his works is how stories are the building blocks of human understanding of the world. That was the main theme of "imaginaerum". and those themes of course find their way in the later albums as well. From what Tuomas said so far about the new album, this one is going to focus more on the idea that every human being, every living thing, comes from a vast network of ancestors. That we are not single points in time, but links in a deep net that stretches back to a far removed past and hopefully to a distant future. to see the themes more clearly, pay special attentions to the endings of the live shows for endless forms and human nature: the coda's. The voice of Dawkins talking about how we won the lottery of life, how small the chances were that we even exist, how dare we whine at the inevitable return to the prior state (of not-living) from which the vast majority never stirred. The coda of human nature speaks to the idea that all we are as a species, every saint every sinner all we have ever done and achieved, good and bad, happened on a speck of dust suspended in a sunbeam, our world earth. I know of no other living composer in any genre who can brings these ideas and thoughts to live in so vibrant a manner, without losing authenticity, evoking no negative emotions but only wonder, beauty, sometimes sadness, that brings you near to tears every single time. He should be celebrated as one of the absolute greats of all time.

Great song, great video, great reaction!! The title of album Yesterwynde is actually a non exiting word that Troy came up with. Yesterwynde is the opening track on new album, i belive its only like a intro, its a little over 2 min long, #2 on album then is a almost 10 min song, thats proberly another epic!! #3 is where i think they bring in a heavy track, and this Perfume of the timeless is #5.. so i think its gonna be a good mix of heavy songs, Epics, and maybe a full balled.. Perfume of the timeless, well its almonst a ghost energy song right, telling all these ancestors is perfume around in a timeless world, being around you still, also a message that your existens matters!! i feel tuomas also put in a little message that mankind could do better still, Einstein turn to ape.. I listened to this song maybe 50 times by now, and it is one i like to listen to with my headphones or without, its really a good song, when i can do so to me. Some say Floors voixe is low in the mix, and i can agree its hard to get all words she sing, but if you look at it sounswise it sounds amazing!! and after a listen or 2, you know most of lyrics, and its no problem at all, its done fully on purpose for the sound experince of it.. cant wait for rest of album!! "Perfume of the Timeless" Released: 21 May 2024 The title of the album is a word made by band member Troy Donockley, which Holopainen describes as the feeling of time, history, memory, and being connected to past generation, who have "all had their lives, their ups and downs, and they don't exist anymore, except as atoms scattered all over the universe. And we're going to be in that state pretty soon as well. So that should give you something to think about." Well done for being willing to be honest spiritually and about your beliefs, especially on an open platform such as this. Ignore the trolls. As a Christian and drummer myself I absolutely enjoy the genius of Tuomas poetic writing and the music they write. I love Floor's voice and the musicianship in the various incarnation of the band. I don't always agree with the Worldview in the lyrics, especially Tuomas obsession with Evolutionary Biology and Dawkins. But that is only natural if your worldview is from a Biblical perspective. And that is ok! Many people don't get, or don't want to understand the true 'Creationist' viewpoint. We do believe in evolution and survival of the fittest, shocking I know! Just not in the same all encompassing way as Secular Evolutionary Biologists. I am absolutely ok with people disagreeing and debating as long as they do so respectfully. Check out 'The Greatest Show on Earth' (Tampere version, not Wembley. One of the big three!). It is absolutely based on macro evolutionary theory influenced by Richard Dawkins books and tells 'beginning to end' story from that perspective. I don't agree with some of the message but I love the song and it's live performance is spectacular. One doesn't have to agree with everything to appreciate the art. Life would be so very boring if we all agreed on everything. Keep doing what you're doing brother!

This is what Tuomas had to say when asked in an interview. 6) Andrew Marlowe-Cremedas from the United States asks: "My question is for Tuomas: The early Nightwish songs feature a lot of Christian imagery and lyrics, and later the new album Endless Forms Most Beautiful is more of an atheist album dedicated to science. What lead to you becoming an atheist, and do you at all still relate to some of the Christian imagery in Nightwish?" Tuomas: Hello Andrew! The term "atheist album" is a bit silly, what does that even mean? But the album's thematics are heavily influenced by science, and beauty of the natural world and our rare existence, yes. Religions are fascinating, though, and their history and imagery are inspiring tools for creating art. I became a freethinker (secularist, atheist, agnostic... whatever, it's all semantics) after realizing I have a (loose) belief in something I know nothing about. I suppose the biggest realization came from the fact that out of the 3500 existing religions in the world today, I happened to lucky enough be born to the single correct one...???! I felt a deeply uncomfortable twitch of arrogance. That, and also, actually reading some of that "Good Book" made quite the difference. I'm happy to stand before the big questions and say "I don't know", until we know better. And to know better, science, backed up by reason & evidence is the only way. So even though Tuomas prefers to follow science Tuomas still believe good things happened from the Good book as he calls it including creativity. He doesn't dish religion in any nasty way and seems very open for more evidence like most Agnostic people.

Third in the Evolution trilogy after Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human Nature. Nightwish videos by Ville have always been excellent. Floor is deliberately merged into the choir in the chorus. If you haven't heard much of Kaitsu then as a drummer you are missing out. Try Weak Fantasy from Tampere 2015, Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires 2018 (an early song) and numerous others. For Troy vocals try Harvest from Human Nature, The Carpenter from Buenos Aires 2018 (from the first album) and How's the Heart acoustic duet from Planet Rock. You've hardly touched the surface if you haven't explored post-Anette era. Marco and Troy fill completely different roles. Marco is one of the great metal vocalists. Troy is from a folk background. While he does fill some of Marcos role now, a lot of it has fallen to Floor so not at all the same. Yes you should listen to EFMB and HN before the new album comes out. They are a progression.

Hey mate, I just watched your reaction way down under and was wondering about your audio comments. I am not a fan of in-ears, as I have no idea how to keep them in! I decided to listen via my Steinberg interface but not my Rupert Neve headphone amp using my mixing headphones: Neumann NDH 30s and my mortgage Yamaha YH5000s. Your review was correct with Floors' vocals. I decided to go to Spotify and listen on that platform, and the mix was even bigger and wider, with Floor sitting snuggly in the middle with a lot more clarity. I have often wondered about KZbin dumbing down videos and their audio. The mix seems to be more friendly to open-back headphones and I am in on that if it was deliberate. Music had slowly become a budget item at the supermarket before making it to the bargain bin with many artists bending to make music sound better on phone speakers. Since moving house I haven't set up my monitors to truly appreciate this Nightwish experience. cheers P

Troy isn't really a big belty singer. Real pretty folk type. He sings a lot on the song My Walden, added that nice 3rd vocal with Floor and Marko, as well as helps out Tuomas and Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas's hunny, on their side project Auri, which has some rocky sounds but is a lot more chill. Johanna both looks and sounds kinda elvish/fairy tale enchantress, like Anette, but more wispy in a good way. I'm also not that into Darwin, but I've found myself really appreciating Mr Dawkins, which Tuomas based a lot of the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album on. I think we'd agree on a lot, even though I'm spiritual.

Two thoughts I just leave here. First - the heavy part of the song. It seems the popular idea is that its about us destroying the world, which has been common theme in Nightwish songs. I on the other hand think that part is about the kind of chaos our ancestors have had to evade for us to be here - the dangers of the world. Then the always hot topic - "this is not my view". Everyone and anyone has right for their own opinion and view, and there are big parts where we just don't have the answer. You can see my agnostic view of the world with protestant christian values from that sentence alone. But what I don't understand is why people tend to think evolution and other beliefs cant co-exist. If one likes to think human is not just an end result of chance, why couldn't it be that the higher power of your choosing would just have controlled evolution? We do this as humans in breeding and genetic manipulation all the time. The seven "days" of the bible for instance just might spread over billions of years. Many of these different religious beliefs around the world have confluence with science, its just written in a poetic storytelling way - like Nightwish lyrics. I have also noticed that Nightwish or Tuomas in their secular philosophy don't actually try to tell you what you are allowed to believe - they just warn you not to be led a stray by the false kings and leaders who use these beliefs just for their own benefit. I have come to know priests who don't actually believe in bible or god, but they still believe in the values bible teaches and they believe this congrecational work helps the people and the community to work and flourish. As you can see I tend to make assumption that by "not my view" you refer to creationism, where I might be very wrong. You might believe in something completely different. My agnostic mind just doesn't see why we should divide things to truth and false, when we just don't have the absolute answers.
@teckreactions

Your comment is very thoughtful and kind. I appreciate that. People get offended - and it’s a choice. All I said was “my view of evolution does not align with their view of evolution,” and from there a lot of assumptions were made, attacks towards my belief system and a few people doing what you state Toumas does not do - try to tell me why I’m not allowed to believe what I believe. I am prepared to defend my position in a healthy, friendly way if I have to. But I won’t engage when there are deliberate attacks in character. Thanks for the engagement, my friend.

He's doesn't have a powerful voice line Marco and Floor, it has a very different quality, for more calm and soothing singing and for backing vocals. At Buenos sites 2018 sometimes Floor, Marco and Troy harmonised, and it sounded wonderful. You may want to check out Harvest from human II Nature. It's a very different song, it's beautiful, it's a little more folky, but it's still nightwish, and got a truly beautiful message, in a way the message has a feeling similar to this song.

@@OJB42 It seems you've sparked a bit of a debate here, perhaps intentionally. If that's the case, that's perfectly fine. I'll respond briefly but invite you to join the discussion on our Discord for a deeper conversation if you're interested. Indeed, evolution is recognized as both a fact and a theory. A fact is an observation that can be consistently confirmed, like gravity causing an object to fall. Evolution as a fact refers to the observation that organisms have changed over Earth's history. The theory of evolution provides a scientific explanation for these changes, supported by centuries of observations, experiments, and peer-reviewed research. However, it's crucial to distinguish between microevolution and macroevolution. Microevolution involves changes within a species and is a well-documented, naturally occurring phenomenon that is widely accepted in the scientific community. Macroevolution, which refers to changes significant enough to result in the emergence of new species, cannot be directly observed or experimentally reproduced in the same way and thus remains a subject of scientific debate. We regularly observe species adapting, but we do not see instances of one species transforming into an entirely different one, such as dogs evolving into horses or lizards into birds. Darwin’s observations of finches in the Galapagos highlighted microevolution-certain finches had beak shapes that better suited their environment-but he did not witness a finch turning into a completely different animal.

Much appreciate your analysis. On 'the topic' at hand: I'm not in it for any debate or to convert anyone into anything, but I'll leave my opinion here: One can believe in anything he wants freely, and legally, but an opinion that denies evolution (especially the human one that is very well understood with basically gap-less traces and proof all the way back, some of which is even shown in the video) is an opinion, but not something backed by any science. It's a purely spiritual, or at best speculative one. One cannot believe in addition and reject multiplication. That is not how it works. I mean this in the most respectful way possible. At the same time, I am confused as to how such a world view, given the information basis we now have access to, exists in 2024. My mind cannot comprehend it, but also: that's ok. Why am I writing this? Well: Should you intend to go down this rabbit hole further (which musically is well worth it for you I'm sure), you will essentially get 'face-slapped' with content like this. Endless Forms most Beautiful is the first album of that trilogy and it's last song 'The Greatest Show on Earth' (one of the 'Big 3') is literally a march through the history of the universe, named after and ended by the spoken words of Sir Richard Dawkins. Weak Fantasy is also not exactly friendly with Religion in general, so is "Tribal" from Human::Nature. If you are open for this: perfect. But you are not the first north american reactor to be hit by northern european views on the subject, and it did not always go well. Not a threat, not even a warning. But a well meant hint. This won't go away.

I think the song is awesome .I just don't like the mix. The orchestra was just too loud, should have been tuned down. It's sounds messy in my ears. Th song is really good, but lost in the mixing.

It is better to read Dawkins's The greatest show an earth for evidence. And, the banana fly has already been identified as changing into another species. Their life cycle is short enough. There are hundreds of other examples in Dawkins' book.

"I disagree with that part." You will disagree with the entirety of The Greatest Show On Earth, as well as a few of their other songs. Nightwish is a very science-y band and are avowed "openly secular." The male vocals in this are from Troy, the guy who plays the Uilleann pipes, flutes and whistles, bouzouki and guitar. A lot of the times when people talked about how great Floor and Marko sounded together, it was actually Floor, Marko AND Troy.

@@teckreactions do you know what’s interesting? I’ve been following Nightwish for years. I don’t ever remember people coming on here and debating so much. You know science versus religion and you know creation I don’t remember that, and to be honest with you this entire thread in a way is leaving a sour taste in my mouth because all of a sudden it’s not about the music it’s about peoples beliefs and theories, and that should be in another forum not here, it’s not going out and saying dammit. This is exactly what we believe and we’re trying to shove it in your face or down your throat. That’s not what’s happening here, but the comments are turning personal, but the music isn’t just remember that.

I was trying to say that Nightwish isn’t saying dammit this is what we believe in and you should believe it. Also they’re not even saying that this is what they believe in so they’re doing it. I think in a very clean and respectful way yet these comments are turning personal, it’s just not productive if you ask me

@@scottb.4472 Actually, this whole discussion was initiated by a few members of the Nightwish Army. My comment was simply, “my view of evolution doesn’t align with theirs,” and the rest of my reaction focused more on the music, the diver, and the mix than anything else. Yet, that one sentence was singled out by others from the entire video. If anyone feels upset by this, it's me. My personal beliefs have been attacked, and I've been belittled despite my efforts to remain civil.

I think you will be disappointed to a certain extent when I say that at least half of the band are atheists (Tuomas, Floor and Troy - the other members haven't commented publicly on their beliefs) and moreover they even have a couple of unequivocally anti-religious songs: "Weak Fantasy" and "Tribal".

Though I understand Tuomas to have been raised in a church environment I have heard he and Troy describe themselves today, as secularists! I understand 'Tribal' to be not anti- religious, but rather a rant against what humans do to each other in the name of religion! Seems a small difference but it matters to me! Don't have the knowledge to comment on 'Weak Fantasy.'

I'll assume you didn't mean "larger grasp on reality" to be disrespectful, so I won't take it as such. Disagreeing with Darwin’s view on evolution doesn’t prevent me from appreciating a performance or retelling of the theory. I’ve read Darwin’s works both before and after embracing Christianity.

Stupid comment. It's like comparing Rob Halford and David Gilmour: They have completely different vocal styles but are perfect for what they do. There's a reason why Tuomas started using Troy's vocals back on the "Imaginaerum" album ("The Crow, the Owl and the Dove" song), even before Troy became a permanent member of Nightwish. And in general, as if we don't have enough whiners who have been grieving for Tarja for almost 20 years, now there is more whining about Marko 🤦‍♂Marko is no longer in the band and will not be, get over it.
