I'm just not quite sure how that translates to pokemon playtime or how it will feel. You know, it's hard to explain, but I keep trying to image how much you can actually do in the game with the monsters and such. The demo didn't let you leave the village afterall.

I really wish more indie developers that want to make creature collectors could stop making such blatant Pokemon games. Same stats, six mon team, start at level 5, EVs, etc. It just pokemon. And one or two blatant rip-offs of a huge franchise is fine, but it really feels that +70% of the games in this genre are pokemon clones. There are so many cool ideas left undone, just to tread the road well-travelled.

This. They say indie developers are so much more creative than big studios but I don’t see any creativity in this genre. Digimon, Yokai - these are catch-em-all games that don’t feel like a sad rip-off

Kind of agree, but a lot of these design conventions are either too basic to be considered a Pokemon thing or are pretty much a standard at this point. Like how just about every survival/crafting game starts you off buck naked punching trees to make crude tools. The problem is more that Pokemon itself is too fundamentally basic in its design. Its that or the Megatensei/Persona esque design style like Digimon and others have adopted.

Sorry to be a downer. I know many people were/are excited for this but it fails at a fundermental level for me. I do not enjoy most Pokémon Fusion Hacks/Fangames because it just feels so off to have no backsprites. My monster fights and instead of facing it's opponent it just staring at me. I know most people say it isn't a big deal and lightens the workload a lot and it does. But is the break of immersion by your monster acting like a complete idiot worth it? Not for me.

What I don't get is: why don't they use a sideways perspective for the battles? Is that important to imitate pokemon to the letter and give the player a 1st person perspective during the battles? If sprites are sideways they can be used without problems facing each other, and without additional workload. Maybe not even 100% sideways, just to look good when inverted.

Honestly? I kinda wish pokemon would ease back into the more retro like stuff. I like the remakes of pokemon games, but the stories aren't half as intense. Nothing was more satisfying than taking a team down that was literally trying to drown the world 😂😂 I haven't watched much of this video yet, but I'm going to give it a shot. There's other games to watch, if you aren't into pkmn like games like this.
