@@oban6051 Here's some of the best I've played and would highly recommend: Soulstone Survivors: had a recent update, has a neat meta progression system with different arenas to collect different resources for crafting new weapons for each of the characters, with a very large web of unlocks that makes the game very replayble Spirit Hunters Infinite Horde: Very similar to the OG vampire survivors, but with a much more vast unlock system and meta progression, it took me more than 3 times as much to 100% this than VS, so if you enjoy grinding, this one's for you Spellbook Demonslayers: Has a really interesting metaprogression system that allows you to alter the passives you find in your level ups, allowing for infinite replayability 20 Minutes till dawn: super challenging, with some really tense boss fights, this is the closest you'd get to the "dark souls of bullet heavens" Bounty of One: has an interesting mechanic that you only fire your weapon when you don't move, and you only obtain passive upgrades to your primary weapon, which differ from character to character Project Lazarus: the only mech bullet heaven I've seen, has an interesting system of each mech having a different amount of slots for each type of upgrade, eg weapons, passives, however can be a bit demanding on your hardware depending on your setup Vampire hunters: a first person shooter still in its early days where you assemble guns to shoot enemies in an endless corridor while being chased by a moving wall Nomad Survival: like Vampire Survivors but no limit on how many weapons or upgrades you get, adjustable game speed and special side challenges on each stage with a recent update that added some super challenging end game content. RICE Repetitive Indie Combat Experience: a very tongue-in-cheek take on bullet heavens, killing planets for upgrades and upgrading weapons by combining multiple copies of them Rogue Genesia: While it does feature a standard 30 minute Survivors mode, the real beauty of this game is the Rog's mode, which takes you through a series of Survivors-style levels as you progress through a map, acquiring weapons and passives on the way. Bonus arena fighters: Brotato: buy weapons and passives in between rounds of killing hordes of enemies playing as a variety of different potatoes with an awesome modding community Neophyte: an amazing arena horde fighter filled with magic spells that you can equip exactly how you want, and a myriad of unique abilities to create an endless amount of builds to keep you coming back and back.

A small tidbit: the creator of the game is either italian or a fan of all things italy. Most names of characters and weapons are ridiculous mix-and-matches of italian and english. For example, "PeachOne" is a translitteration of the term "piccione", that is, pigeon, while "santa water" is a half translation of "acqua santa" - Holy Water. How do I know? Bible + Garlic is actually a really good combo. Like all weapons, you have to level them up before they really come into their own, but at max level you should have multiple Bibles near constantly orbiting around you. Garlic is great for the early game as it just melts through the weaker enemies, but the damage doesn't keep up against stronger enemies. But the Garlic also increases knockback, so the combination of Bible + Garlic is actually really good at keeping enemies away from you. Other than that, you need to get a weapon that can heal you, which at this point means evolving the right weapon. Purchase upgrades and grind out those unlocks and you'll get more options opening up. Also, Empty Tome is one of the strongest passive items.

There are so many absurd quotes in this video “Whipping goblins wasn’t on my agenda today” “Man the pigeon does NUMBERS!” “Oh no I’m in someone’s garden and the pigeon’s aiming a little weird…” 12:36 “Niceee my garlic leveled up” 16:20 “Oh no I’m in a toothpaste commercial again…” 23:13

This was oddly pleasant to watch. I just really loved watching Kevin’s garlic melt through enemies.

You are very correct on the addictive nature of this game. It honestly just gets substantially weirder and more addicting as you play.

i love how this popularized an entire genre. My personal favourite is Soulstone Survivors, didn't really hit it off with this one but as game design go, it's genius. Mixing old and modern gaming tricks to make it addicting

a guy told me to try this game when he walked into the 24hr gas station i worked at at 3:00 in the morning. I wasn't sure what he was talking about, and I unfortunately forgot all about it in the days following. Finding out that _this_ was what he was talking about all along...honestly makes sense for a guy who goes to gas stations at 3:00 in the morning.

Does Kev know anything about VTubers, let alone Hololive specifically? I always find it funny watching the reactions of people who know nothing about them trying to work out all the crazy references, like Maximilian playing Idol Showdown. (He ended up liking Botan the most because she is cool and has the power of GUN.)

this video is a lot like your experience with Vampire survivors, let me explain, I originally thought a video on a game I knew about would be redundant to watch (especially since its vampire survivors, didn't seem like that much fun) but went ahead with it because its a callmekevin video, and now I've spent 20 minutes watching this when I planned to do something else. Great video.

as someone who 100% this game and dlcs, I need more of kevin playing, there's SO MUCH he has yet to see, mechanics, bosses, new weapons and the stupid big roster of characters. Not even mentioning the Randomazzo. Seeing someone new discovering VS brings joy to the heart lmao

There was a warcraft 3 map called TD Survivor REV 3.4 which gave me very similar feelings as watching this game, watching the creeps die, planning a perfect strategy, etc. almost 20 years later and I still haven't beaten that map on hard difficulty, I try every so often every year or so. Don't know what switches in my brain it flips but ONE DAY I will beat that damn map!

HEY MAN, I JUST STOPPED BY TO SAY DAMN YOU FOR INTRODUCING ME TO THIS GAME I GOT IT OUT OF MILD CURIOSITY AND I HATE HOW MUCH I LOVE IT ALREADY. I THOUGHT THE REVIEWS ABOUT ADDICTION WERE A BIT BUT THEY HONESTLY HAVE SOME VALIDITY. THIS IS A GREAT GAME TO PLAY WHILE IGNORING THE CONSTANT PROGRESSION OF TIME AND FORGETTING WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BLINK. I BOTH DO AND DON’T RECOMMEND THIS GAME.

This was a great video Kevin! I would love to see you do a series on this game. There is a metric TON of playable characters, all with their own weapons and abilities. It would be fun to watch you explore this game further.

I watched the video a few days ago then immediately bought the game, which is only the second time that has happened with me. The only other time was Crypt of the NecroDancer many, *many* years ago. I then spent the next 6 hours straight playing Vampire Survivors. So far I've played 17.5 hours & gotten 77/190 achievements. The most important tip I can think of: Garlic & passive regen are nearly always required in the early game.

Yeah, Vampire Survivors is like the definition of "don't judge the book by its cover".
