Zadius, great first impressions. Before leaving a comment, I read other comments here and I realized other people are in the same boat as me: I'm considering between hd490 pro and the dt 1990 pro, as well. Haha! I'm especially interested in how they compare in imaging, separation, and clarity, among other sonic categories like their mid-ranges. Since you have both and have been already using the hd490 pros for 7 months, I think that you're the prime candidate to make a dedicated comparison video on the these two headphones. In fact, I have found it rather strange that nobody has made a dedicated comparison video on hd490 pro vs dt 1990 pro yet since they are the flagship studio offerings from the rival german companies.

Just picked up the 490 and the left driver will just be dead when i plug it in 50% of the time. I have to tap on it for a minute a little to get it working. Considering an exchange for the 1990 since i already have a 700 pro x and some extra cables that fit them. These 490s are super comfy and sound great though so its a shame, but ive never had any problems with my several beyerdynamics

Sorry to hear that you received a defective unit. You may want to get a replacement through warranty, but if not 1990 Pro's are also a great set of headphones. You'll be fine with either one.

@@ZadiusTech was thinking about it but i feel like the midrange tuning looks even worst than sennheiser hd660s2, bass looks pretty decent. Since i got the diana mr there hasn’t been much point for me to pick these up lol

I have decided to get the HD 490 over the Sony MDR-MV1. I recently set up a listening room and decided to add a headphones option. I owned the Sennheizer HD 6XX before, and I found the clamping to be too tight. Studio mixing headphones should be more comfortable.

I love this idea, I totally need to setup a listening room as well. I owned the 6XX as well and I think you will be a lot happier with these in terms of clamping force.

Do you think the sound blaster x3 would work for these. I already have it and would love to be able to keep using it.

I don't see why not, as the SB X3 has a 3.5mm jack right in front so just remove the 6.3mm adapter and plug them into your SB X3. I've been using a Modmic Wireless with my 490 Pro's and its been working great as a headset for Warzone.

⁠@@ZadiusTechwhat amp do you use? Are you able to hear yourself talk with that mic. Not sure what the setting is called but does it allow you to hear your own voice

I use the THX AAA 789 Amp. No I don't hear myself talk with the Modmic Wireless, however my Audeze Maxwell gaming headset has that feature which they call sidetone (video on the Maxwell here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZzOhmOglLuSeLs)

Haven’t had the time to do a proper A/B test, but I’ve been using the HD490 for gaming almost daily and I really like them for gaming.

I haven’t had them long enough to fully evaluate them, but if you forced me to pick one right now I’d probably go with the DT 1990 Pro as they seem to be more well rounded headphones compared to these.

@@ZadiusTechHmm. I've had the 1990s for about two years now, and I really like them a lot. I also have the HD 880s, but actually prefer the 1990s for generally everything. I also have a Realiser A8 and A16, so I use either of those headphones for Atmos over headphone, but was trying to find another mid-range pair to try out, and a lot of people had been raving about how good these sound as a general use headphone. It sounds like they wouldn't be any better than what I already have though.

The problem i have with newer Sennheisers is their build quality. I had several in past years and they ALL died pretty quickly regardless of their price. Very frustrating.

Really? I never had any problems with the HD 650, 6XX, or 8XX. My Beyerdynamics on the hand have some broken pieces. The HD 490 Pro’s seem well built in my opinion, but I guess only time will tell.

@@ZadiusTech In recent years i had three HD 59x and a HD 600. All lasted not 2 years of nearly daily use. Always one driver died. On the other side my old HD 565 Ovation and a HD 535 lasted over ten years before one driver quit.

I have hd58x about 2 years. They are 100% ok despite pad change
