Similarly, Brandan's experiences as the child of a drug addict are extremely damaging. Neither of these two are bad people. They're just deeply scarred by the actions of others. (And they'll likely pass this trauma onto the child if they don't get therapy). It's tragic, more than anything.

It’s very different cos the show documented what happened and asked for her comments as it happened. Therapy is different.. the therapist would ask you to recount the incidents and ask you a lot of introspective questions to make sense of your emotions. Often you are forced to keep looking into difficult situations to explain your behaviour, what causes it, what else you can do etc. it’s very different from being on reality show.

I don't think she is a narcissist and I feel like that word is thrown around too often. Was she a little bit manipulative, yes, but she knows that something is wrong. It is hard to start therapy even when you know you need it that is why she is afraid of being seen as a crazy or a bad person by a therapist. The difference when on the show she is talking to a camera which lets people she has never met before see her, and with a therapist it is more intimate.

I love watching movies and making miniatures but if I had a baby I would have no choice but to give both up no matter how much I love them and need them to self regulate, babies need 24/7 hands on care and full attention, you can't check out with a baby for the first 4yrs of their life or else they will develop lifelong mental issues, and when I wasn't caring for the baby I would be working my ass off making as much money as I possibly can. Not true. You are not always awake. I work in the delivery operating rooms. Sometimes mothers can be put to sleep under anaesthesia because maybe they cannot tolerate the spinal or something went wrong. Also if the mother is awake she is completely unaware and cover by drapes and she would not be able to see what’s going on.

I imagine Brandon feels scammed - Mary took $60,000 from him to build a house, but built it on land that her Grandfather owned, and mostly certainly did not cost $60,000 (unfinished, no hot water). Meanwhile her brother lives in their previous home, which obviously was not “destroyed in a typhoon”. Then he comes to the Philippines, and not only has she spent all the money, but he discovers she lies about her interaction with other men, while forbidding him to even look in the direction of another woman, she gets pregnant immediately, and talks him into marriage without him knowing that divorce is illegal in the Philippines. Is Brandon a unicorn - absolutely not. He seems to be naturally lazy for one thing, and completely uninterested in working - but Mary definitely tricked him, in several different ways. So I can see why he’d feel anger toward her. Really, he should have cut his losses and gone back to America as soon as he realized the extent of her deception.

While divorce is illegal, you can still have a marriage annulled in the Philippines, and you can get divorced outside of the country and have it recognized by Philippine court systems. Also, if Brandon didn't want to get 'baby-trapped' maybe he should have USED A CONDOM or simply RESPECTED THE WISHES OF THE FAMILY. I'm willing to concede that the fact he doesn't speak the language may excuse him from holding down a normal job there, but in that case either learn the language or volunteer to take care of the child while Mary works. Not excusing her behavior from long-distance, I do think it was financially motivated, but frankly, I don't think Brandon actually earned all the money he sent her. He doesn't have any marketable skills, he's never gone to college, so any employer would have had to be okay with hiring someone with no skills, fresh out of high school, for well above minimum wage, for multiple years even assuming he has no living expenses AT ALL. My suspicion is that he received some kind of inheritance that we weren't told about, 'cause I have known hard working people at that age and NONE of them had a spare 60k to burn on an online girlfriend. Especially considering his total lack of work ethic after moving, I think the real situation is that Mary thought she could drain this gullible rich American teenager of his college fund, act so crazy that he'd break up with her afterwards, and now the result is they've BOTH ruined their lives. Believe it or not, people do get more „confident“ with more validation. Especially, if they never really had much validation in their life. Needing therapy is viewed as a weakness and people will start to avoid you once they see you getting it because they assume you must be batshit insane, it goes beyond just being irrational in their eyes.
