The bass bite can get difficult when those mayflies (mayfly or fishily as we call them here) hatch, but it's NOT impossible! You simply have to change techniques.
If you've been watching any of the MLF (Major League Fishing) Bass Pro Tournament on Lake St Clair this week, you've seen the pros targeting bass on forward facing facing sonar and using the drop shot technique quite a bit. This has to do with the mayfly hatch and targeting smallmouth and largemouth bass feeding off the hatch.
I'm going to show you how you can improve your chances of catching fish (from the bank OR the boat) during what some consider quite a challenging time.

I need to give the drop shot more attention. I think it's a technique that will slay on the kayak! Great video Joe!

Great tips on fishing in the middle of the water column or up! That hatch is such great food for the fish. Beautiful catches 👊 that pumpkinseed had amazing colors and it was a pooper again !

Thanks Jared! I remember years ago most of us bank anglers would just walk away during the hatch because it was such a mess. I’m glad I’ve learned to push thru because it’s definitely a golden time to get on them!

"I swear this is the same fish!" That's a thought that I have OFTEN had, about catch and release! hahaha! I wonder how often you actually do hook the same animal? These flies...I remember them swarming my house in Japan. The geckos outside were filling their stomachs left right and centre!

Hahahahaha! I have some confirmed pics of fish I’ve caught more than once. Very cool to have that happen! The birds were flying all over eating them up. You can see I got five bombed a few times during filming.😂🤣

@@live2fishofficial THANK YOU! I got 20 lb braid on my mach crush but I was having trouble setting my spool tension and brakes, what do you think I should but my brakes at for starting out?
@live2fishofficial
@live2fishofficial Жыл бұрын
@@OJfishigan I always set them at MAX on to start out and then dial back in increments of two. If it’s a brand (like Lews) that I’m confident with, I’ll start at 80%. When setting my brakes I always try to give it the longest cast possible and into the wind if there’s any. That way I can be confident I’m not getting a backlash easily.

Do you have any tip for drop shot fishing
@live2fishofficial
@live2fishofficial Жыл бұрын
Don’t be afraid to adjust the length between the hook and weight. Sometimes less is more and other times putting that presentation higher in the water column can really help. Don’t be afraid to try different baits as well. Try a tube or a grub. Sometimes a bigger bait (and hook) can make a big difference so don’t be afraid to explore your options.
