Her powerful voice could easily flatten John's voice but as soon as she sings together with him, she does it so humbly and cares not to steal the limelight. Brandi, you're really a great woman !

Brandi (and I've watched her a lot) in person and online will NEVER disrespect her mentors or her elders. She will do what she is called to do in a performance. If it's play 2nd fiddle, that's what she'll do. I'll never forget seeing her quietly feed the words to a song to a younger performer (when they didn't know the words) so they wouldn't be embarrassed. She took herself out of a group performance to do so. She's about the we.

Talent. Old and new. Man and woman. Road weary and dewy eyed. She is not Bonnie. She is herself. She moderated her voice to let John take the lead on one of his best songs. Masterful.

Anyone who thinks Brandi oversings here is crazy. She uses her awesome voice to full effect on her verses, but then completely pulls it in when she's singing with John on the choruses and melds with him beautifully. She's so respectful of him, both personally and musically, and the affection and admiration between them is palpable.

Brandi can sing, and anyone who complains misses the point of why they were friends. Besides, did those complainers remember this is not a professional recording, or maybe her mic was too loud? I guess people just want to complain instead of appreciate the opportunity to listen.

Well, Bonnie Raitt plays the song in E. John here is playing it in his original key of G, a step and a half higher than Bonnie typically sings it. Brandi has to belt it out to hit the high notes. If Bonnie sang the song in G, it would sound just like this.

For those interested, I strongly recommend that you search the KZbin video where Brandi Carlile sings hello in there on the ‘Steve call bear show. And introducing it call bear gets pretty emotional. It is clear that he is well is Brandy had great love and respect for John Prine
