Lyrics:
Come back now, even if you call me out
You might be angry now, of course you are
I’m scared too, didn’t mean to take it out on you
I know I always do, you’re the strongest person in the room
Turn back time
Help me to rewind and we can find ourselves again
It’s not too late
Either way, I lose you in these silent days
It wasn’t right, but it was right on time
Don’t look down, I can feel it when your heart starts pounding
It’s beyond your control, you know it is
It’s getting to the point where I can’t carry on
I never held my breath for quite thislong
And I don’t take it back, I did what I had to do
It’s not too late
Either way, I lose you in these silent days
It wasn’t right, but it was right on time.

The first time I saw Brandi was with my partner in Calgary 8 years ago. It was in a small venue with about 60 people. My partner knew she would hit the big time because of her amazing voice, song writing skills, and presence with "the twins." He would be so pleased to see her star shine and keeping to her core values of love and social justice. He died 4 years ago and Brandi's music gives me such solace. Thank you, Brandi.

I can't help but think of my mother's passing when I hear this also. Heartbreaking to think of it as "right on time", but it did come at the end of so much suffering... even though she was always "the strongest person in the room" I'm now left to fend for myself "in these silent days". Love and strength to you, and me, and all the others who struggle with such grief.

Brandi, I couldn’t be more proud of you and the twins. You’ve been a part of my life for approximately 13-14 years now and throughout so many of life’s struggles. Seeing where you all are now is bittersweet for me. I will miss the moments where I introduce people to your music knowing they’ll never be the same once they hear your words. But you all are most deserving of the recognition you’re FINALLY getting! From the start, I never understood how you weren’t HUGE in the industry, but I may have enjoyed feeling like I had the best kept secret artists on my playlist and in my CD player. I love you all to the moon and back over and over again!

I lost my brother about a year ago, the lyrics hit hard. “I wouldn’t have lost you in the sudden time, it wasn’t right, but it was right on time”. Knowing that if he would have survived I probably would have lost him a different way. The strength to have to carry on, even though I don’t want to.

This song makes me so emotional. I don’t know what Brandi was going through when she wrote this, but for me, it’s as if she knew exactly what I was going through and expressed every word so accurately in a way that I never could. My dad loves me, but was was never good at showing it. He had a mean streak and never really took responsibility and took care of me growing up. Last year he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and moved in with me. I took care of him as if he was my child, completely dependent on me. He still could not express love or gratitude, and his mean streak got worse. I gave him some grace considering what he was going through, but it was the most stressful time of my life. I feel like he could sing this song to me and it would make just as much sense as if I were to sing it to him. The lyrics are on point, “it wasn’t right, but it was right on time.” I work at a cancer clinic and was able to care for him very quickly, and happened to be working from home at the time, so I was able to care for him. He would have died very quickly if this wasn’t the case. “Either way I lose you In these silent days.” To me, this would be either to death (he is alive still thankfully) or just not ever having a good relationship because I couldn’t get him to open up to me. “I’m scared too didn’t mean to take it out on you” and “it’s beyond your control, you know it is” reference the cancer of course. Thankful for this song. I haven’t shared it with my dad, but maybe I will. A song hasn’t moved me this way in a very long time.

On the whole the Grammys sucked but Brandi Carlile's voice is astounding and "Right on Time" is a masterpiece. She was the shining star of the event.

Just tonight, heard Her for the first time on UK TV. Jools Holland talking to Elton John.. talking about Brandi. They then played The Story. Wow. Now heard this beautiful song. Fantastic to hear a new (to me) singer.

Brandi is such a great singer. I heard her sing a tribute to Loretta Lynn' after she died. On the special she sang the song, "She's got you." She is an excellent Country music singer as well. It was beautiful and she is the only one who got a standing ovation!!!!!.

Just heard this for the first time. I swear I thought it was a new Bette Midler song at first. I have no idea who this artist is, but I'm hooked. What a song, and the voice to sing it! Amazing.

When I just had a short look at the video description I discovered that all credits for the video go to women. 🌟 I really love it because it shows that there is no job women can't do and that we have our very own and legit way of directing, designing and performing. I love it. And I love the the song too. Brilliant lyricism again, I'm astonished.

I appreciate the sentiment, I really do, but let’s pls not get lost in this women vs men thing because Brandi’s music is so goddamn beautiful it’s for everybody. And of course women can do all this stuff. Crazy for anybody to ever doubt it. I almost feel silly for commenting on this, but just kind of want to say that there are men here too that appreciate how beautiful Brandi is, and what women in general can do and love their inherent value, and also that we’re way past doubting them. Even bringing it up to me makes it seem like we’re going backwards. I hope one day soon it doesn’t matter what’s in between your legs or any of that BS. One of the top songwriters of her generation. She slays me! Hands-down best person to see live. Ani Difranco with a close second.

@@Dude-tv6cj Nobody ever said that this song or Brandi's music is not for men or that men are in any way less suited to work with her or on a music video for her, I just wanted to highlight how refreshing it is to see a video only produced by women in a business that is still largely controled by men. Not because men would be inferior, less creative or worthy, but because it brings some new perspective and fresh energy! But aside from that I agree with anything you said.

I was working last night and decided to turn on the TV in the lobby and I put the grammy broadcast on just to have voices and music in the background. The only performance that made me look up and take notice was you and the twins and this song. it was absolutely amazing and makes me miss my younger self who use to write constantly. but, alas, life . . . lol . . . gotta pay the bills and move and ( I exhale deeply just now) anyway. . . at least for 3:33 I can live my dreams through your writing and music. it's amazing. and I apologize for not finding you earlier.
