Many others have attempted a cover version of Joni's Woodstock over the decades. And I can say I've watched Joni Mitchell perform live twice starting in 1979, when I photographed her up relatively close, here in the Portland Oregon Memorial Coliseum to a sellout crowd. So my daughter was the one that alerted me to Brandi Carlile recently. This is the best rendition of this number that I've seen yet. Brandi also has great stage presence. She reminds me a little bit of our local performer Storm Large, who appeared on America's Got Talent recently. I'd like to hear Joni Mitchell's comment on this performance by Brandy, as I'm sure that Joni will surely appreciate it.

Brandi performed the Joni's full Blue album live in front of Joni, so yeah, I believe she approves. ;) Brandi is covering Blue again at Carnegie Hall on 11/6/21. Brandi frequently jams with Joni and other artists at Joni's house. Joni's percussionist (Jeff Haynes) now performs in Brandi's shows.

Brandi is friends with Joni and worked on this song with her like she did with the whole BLUE album that she’s performing again this fall in New York at Carnegie Hall.

Superb cover. Of course, Joni's music doesn't age, but it's great to hear this contemporary spin on this classic.

He was walking along the road And I asked him where are you going And this he told me I'm going on down to Yasgur's farm * I'm going to join in a rock 'n' roll band I'm going to camp out on the land I'm going to try an' get my soul free We are stardust We are golden And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden Then can I walk beside you I have come here to lose the smog And I feel to be a cog in something turning Well maybe it is just the time of year Or maybe it's the time of man I don't know who I am But you know life is for learning We are stardust We are golden And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden By the time we got to Woodstock We were half a million strong And everywhere there was song and celebration And I dreamed I saw the bombers Riding shotgun in the sky And they were turning into butterflies Above our nation We are stardust Billion year old carbon We are golden Caught in the devil's bargain And we've got to get ourselves back to the garden. Joni Mitchell, Woodstock.
