I was actually in this movie! If you look very quickly at a group of soldiers marching past the generals while they're talking, I'm one of them. I also show up later during the actual fighting firing my M-1. I ended up in the movie because a colleague from film school did the stop-motion and miniature effects (John Lambert), and one of the writers was the son of my high school principal (Steve Peace). Also, I was one of the few college-aged men in the 1970s who had short hair, so of course I should play a soldier!

In some senses, _Attack of the Killer Tomatoes_ was ahead of its time. The scene with the goverment comitee in the tiny room is like a condenced version of that gag at the beginning of _Shin Godzilla_ of the politicians moving from boardroom to boardroom as the crisis changes. And the twist of somebody on the president's entourage being the mastermind behind it all was rare in the 70s but has been played straight in a lot of recent movies _(Iron-man 3, Geostorm, Big Game_ etc.)

Supposedly it is being Fast Tracked, and word is that Kathleen Kennedy is being tapped to Produce it, in conjunction with Rian Johnson. With writing responsibilities being handled by JJ Abrams and Alex Kurtzman. It's going to be a full on Post Modern deconstruction of the Racist, Misogynist, White Supremacist subtext included by the original film. They plan to Largely Gender Swap the Main Characters and also Race Swap a few more key ones. They are tapping Brie Larson to be the lead role and are actively searching for a Gender Fluid Hermaphrodite to star in some as Yet unannounced role being written specifically for this reboot. They are planning using that as a major marketing point. First Movie to Star a physiological Hermaphrodite who describes themself to be Completely Gender Fluid and goes by the Pronouns - Bitch and Bastard If this film is successful, they plan it to be the first of a trilogy that will ultimately open up into its own Unique Expanded Universe that will expand in a whole series of different stories that All connect.

3:21 I can see what caused the crash. The helicopter was tilting back too much when landing and that broke off the tail rotor, which made it spin uncontrollably. I think it's airframe unfamiliarity. That tail assembly is really long! Had it been just a foot shorter or angle a bit more he would have landed just fine. Also guessing the pilot was former military, because that sort of high tilt landing is common when landing in a hot LZ.

@@bakomusha I looked it up and according to the NTSB, the pilot misjudged the altitude and speed during the power-on landing.

Jack Reilly, one of the stars of this movie - Mr. Carlin from the Bob Newhart show - was on a Canadian talk show promoting this movie prior to its release. He was in the helicopter when it went down. It was a great story. I knew I had to see it as soon as it came out. I wasn't disappointed.

There was a Saturday morning cartoon as well. Remember when kids got tons of questionable properties turned into cartoons? We had Rambo, Robocop, and the Toxic Avenger, in cartoon form. The 80's and early 90's was a wild time, and I miss it.

10:50 the "Schritz beer" product placement is likely a reference to Schlitz Beer. in 1976, 2 years before this movie was released, Schlitz had to recall 10 million bottles due to very, very bad quality.

You got the fact of the helicopter crash wrong. Because it wasn't scripted they had to pay nothing for it, insurance took care of it since it was unintentional and unscripted so they got to use it for free, and just wrote a line of dialogue explaining that a tomato went after the pilot
