Clark who wrote it. I can't wrap my head around your argumentation and yes, many Corman productions suck, there's no doubt in that. @Bobo Boy to be fair back then film was actually really expensive as was the time it took to re do the scenes. Also unlike today where you can actually do half decent film editing with a cheap computer and some even cheaper editing software, it was actually really expensive to do more than the most basic chopping and stitching, so B movies often had to get it right in just a couple takes where bigger budget films could afford to keep doing a scene over and over all day (Stanley Kubrick supposedly did some scenes 100 times for example).

Honestly buying a PS5 now that Sony is releasing their games on PC is like... Welp, I did better build a PC (since I also need something powerful), Xbox series x is also cool but currently there isn't much to play, a year and a half after their launch... Also, most of the games that I want will be on PC so justifying this next gen consoles feels difficult. Maybe will buy the ps5 when the next VR headset appears, by that time hopefully the ps5 have its slim edition (don't like the current model design) and also get the base price instead of double (or triple) the price. Sony presented micro led screens that are perfect for VR implementations though, micro-led is expensive as hell, even tiny eye size screens... So might wait for a black Friday release, I will also want to be able to play PS4 VR games on PS5 since the catalog will be tiny otherwise. I know VR is far from being the ideal (even if the lens are great and the screens are the best, hardware wise, and controllers... Is still too soon for some tech) but that gimmicky is pretty much the only thing that would make me buy one of this new gens consoles, switch and PC are enough for my needs. Yet, also... 10:20 - "Fetish for this kind of thing..." Well, it's called "Tentacle Hentai" and Japan dominates it right back to some classic woodcut of an Octopus going down on a fisherman's wife. However, before any of that stuff was released in the states...America First!!! I've looked into this. It's weird since well the lady in question refused to do it. Imagine "The H-LL I WILL!!!!!" so loud you could hear if from outside the $100Million giant alien pyramid model - woops before Avatar days - as if that very good matt painting was a real model... Proll'y shattered the coffee pot in the break room... So they did use a body double. But she still had to be stripped by the worm and then lie there covered in slime for Freddy Kruger to toast her despite her being visibly breathing, etc. My fav is that there is "Lost footage" of this film that got a lot more explicit. Lots more bump and grind from the worm and implied though not directly shown insertion - be it on the actress or her double... But that got lost... I imagine in the late 80s Taafe sneaking in and BURNING the full reels after too many scifi fans hassled her at convention wearing giant worm outfits. "Damiaaaaa... We have come for youuuuu...."

The entire point of the pyramid was a test by an ancient race of beings to help/force their young transitioning into adulthood to learn how to control their fears. The Master (played by Ray Walston) was essentially the leader of the main character's civilization, who guided it with his Obi-Wanish wisdom, along with a human companion (who you see in the very beginning) to offer a counter perspective (a link to his previous human self). As the alien race has long since died, the Master uses the pyramid to find his/her replacement, hence the events of the movie, as they were all "set up" by the Master so the crew (which he hand picked for various reasons: some based on intelligence; others based on fighting experience, while others picked for having a tremendous rack, etc) could be tested for their worthiness to replace him. Thus Edward Albert (or Space Zorro), after facing his own fears, must face and defeat the fears of the rest of the crew, whereupon he replaces Ray Walston as the new Master, with Robert Englund as his human advisor.

Man, what a great shlockfest this one is, definitely one of the more grandiose, impressive B-movies among Corman's humongous output. Also one of the very few horror movies I've seen in which the deaths genuinely make me feel queasy in parts. Something about the effects and acting really makes some of the death scenes feel cruel as hell.

I remember the TV ads for this. They made it look fantastic and to be honest, I've always liked this movie. The final reveal was spoiled for me though, since I recognized Ray Walston's voice coming from the Master at the start of the film, so I knew he was more than just the cook. Actually, one of the most disturbing things in this film is the fact that when they discover the blonde's nude body, Baylon just incinerates it without even checking to see if she's still alive. I mean she's lying there nude, covered in slime, but she doesn't have any obvious injuries. How did he know that she wasn't just unconscious?

I would like to see you do a review of Spookies. It's a low budget horror movie from the early 80s. But a lot of people like that movie, myself included. It has quite a cult following. If someone remade that movie nowadays, I think it could be a great movie.

Roger and Gene Corman also made NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST, and that's another ALIEN forerunner, like the ones mentioned at the beginning.

10:15 Fun fact: for years in the '90s and early 2000s there was a site called GOT Fan Art where people posted their original worm/slug/tentacle sex drawings, stories and photoshop work. It's a more common kink than you think.

My family has always been into scifi and horror, so growing up I would often see these flicks and only have one clear scene in memory to look them up as an adult. You know how weird it was to ask around about that at the bootleg table at conventions? "No, it's like Freddy Kreuger and My Favorite Martian and Space Maggot... you gotta remember that damn weird scene." or "You know, the newswoman turns into a werewolf.." or "Dude totally gets lured out of a spacecraft by his dead girlfriend, after he watched her die, and gets out of his damn fool helmet..."

Oddly, the poetry that the dude was quoting? 'Doubt is brother devil to despair'? It's from a poem from the Irish poet John Boyle O'Reilly called...Prometheus. The very next line is 'What, then, for us? Better Prometheus' fate'. Interesting.

The one thing that I took away from this (besides incredibly confused sexuality as I was 11 at the time after the molesting maggot scene) was James Cameron's awesome effects and tech design.

An ancient race created a test that would grant those that passed it amazing powers. Walston's character survived it years ago and became Planet Master. After a lot of time passed, he decided to pass the power on to someone else who could pass it, hence him choosing the crew and even trying to help the captain survive. Cameron's fate is open. Could be bad or good. Only time will tell.

This was shot under the title "Mindwarp: An Infinity of Terror" and I think a trailer might exist with that title. Don't know if it was ever actually released as such, but it's a better title for what it is. Though not nearly as exploitative.

I'm personally fine with that. I'm a fan of Alien 3 (I disliked it at first but it's grown on me and after reading the various early drafts (most of which were pretty awful) and reading the comics and finding them to be rather underwhelming) I came to see it as a good film on its own) and while it might have been fun, it really looked like nothing more than fanfiction brought to life.
@Gridseeker7 жыл бұрын
Neil said the chances are slim and Fox hasn´t confirmed it´s cancelled, but still I think the chances to see Alien 5 are 0 at this point.
@Pensive_Scarlet7 жыл бұрын
trustno173 I see Alien 3 sort of how I see the Ender's Game film. There's so much that wasn't there but should have been there, and a thing or two that was there but definitely shouldn't have been, but I try not to let that all get in the way of appreciating all the good things that *are* there. Personally, I think Alien 3 would be much more likable if, instead of receiving definitive deaths, the other two main characters had just been written out via some sort of open-ended separation, implying that they were lost beyond Ripley's ability to find them but still possibly alive in stasis. Would have had the same feeling of harshness (potentially being in a permanent ice coma in the vastness of space) without that touch of spiteful meanness that the unceremonious deaths had. Plus, imagine the possibilities for a Hicks film, a Newt film, etc! We could have gotten the Hicks film that Alien 3 almost was, and we could have gotten a really awesome Newt spinoff. I always liked the idea of how she went from regular innocent civilized girl to feral survivor, and I would have loved to see that play out on a wider scale after she crash lands on some unusual planet. Xenomorphs don't even need to be involved, it could add in all sorts of totally new aspects and ideas to flesh out the universe. Instead the most we got was just that underwhelming comic story line where she mysteriously goes from being tough as nails to irredeemably depressed and sorta trashy. :
@trustno1737 жыл бұрын
Well, it would have been nice to leave their fates open-ended, I don't think there would have been a Newt spin-off, as Carrie Henn refused to come back, no matter what script she was shown or how much money she was offered, as she became annoyed with the popularity of her character and was alright with Newt being killed off. Plus, I wouldn't want her recast, she was the heart and soul of that role. As for Hicks... well, he always came off as a bit bland to me, it's probably due to the fact that Biehn was a last minute replacement, but I prefer Ripley as the lead than Hicks, who, in the early draft of Alien 3, was as generic as ever. And I don't think their deaths were mean-spirited, as there was definite mourning and sorrow to their deaths, Newt's especially. Just count yourself lucky they didn't let Vincent Ward do his 'monks in space' version of Alien 3, where not only would Newt (who he specifically wanted to kill off because he thought she was annoying), Hicks, and Bishop would have all died off screen, but Ripley was hardly broken up about it and the Alien in that draft is supposed to have Newt's memories and wants revenge on Ripley... don't ask, it's really stupid. That version ended with a flat-out ripoff of the Exorcist. And Ripley's depression makes total sense to me, no mystery at all. Her happy ending was so close, and was snatched away at the last minute. Plus she was still a bad ass
