Hey, the real cruise ship featured in the flyby footage is the ship once known as the Pacific Princess AKA the actual ship used on The Love Boat. The distinctive rear deck pool and the large vertical windows nearby are a dead giveaway, as well as the blade featured on the exhaust stack. Pacific Princess made her final voyage with Princess Cruises in October/November 2002, sailing from New York City to Rome, Italy. She was scrapped in 2013. They also used some real footage of a couple of Carnival ships.

@@benderbendingrodriguez420 You mean with the occasional rendering glitches and texture drops, to the terrible shot of the monster's face, and the over-the-top acting and silly actions scenes, and by the numbers writing Deep Rising rocks? Don't get me wrong, Deep Rising is entertaining, but it is by no stretch of the imagination good. But Octopus is soooooo much worse. I also have a grading system. AWESOME Great Good Entertaining Mediocre Bad Boring I should be watching porn instead Oh my god, I would rather be vomiting out of both ends. Deep Rising is merely entertaining, which I should have clarified, is in the upper part of average. While Octopus is actually bad, which is low end average. But keep in mind BOTH movies are bad, just not the same level of bad. However, they are also NOT the worst things I have ever seen. I have seen movies that are so bad that even porn is better in terms of acting, writing, and cinematography, even music and special effects.

@nooneofimportance2110 I would agree if you are using your scale to rate "Deep Rising" against the entirety of cinema. As a B grade monster movie, and using your scale, it earns an : AWESOME. So..... context matters. It's not trying to be anything more than it is, and it absolutely nails it.

Having a sub as the place for a monster movie? Good idea. No escape, claustrophobic, and what served movies like Alien and even Leviathan so well. Turner is portrayed by Jay Harrington, one of the primary cast members of the CBS series SWAT and the titular character in the disappointly short lived workplace sitcom Better Off Ted. The villain Casper is also one of the most prolific "generic Russian villain" actors around, Ravil Isyanov. He's probably best known for his recurring role as gay Russian crimelord Anatoli Kirkin on NCIS: Los Angeles.

With this coming out in the early 2000’s, and the anthrax subplot, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was edited for reruns.

The thumbnail immediately made me think of the scene in "Ed Wood" where they forgot the octopus motor.

The first time I saw this movie was when I was 10 or 11 years old and I found it on Netflix's instant queue. I was mainly into dinosaur horror movies, but I thought that Octopus looked interesting enough (plus it was in my recommended)

And to think... Godzilla was almost a giant octopus. I don't want to think of the Asylums version of that. Or would that be Reptilian. Also... it looks like they had two scripts for this movie and they said " fuck it. Let's do both"
