Couche-Tard, great pick Brandon. Less than 10% of earnings is great. This is way better than those companies that are giving 15% now and it is like 30% of their earnings. 👍

For Couche-Tard, what is the advantage of buy a stock with a dividend at 0.83% with the expectation that it will grow to 'normal' levels, when I could just buy a stock that already has a ~5% dividend and make that money immediately?
@Rob-ob3sh3 жыл бұрын
I’m not an expert but I think the thought process on this video was companies that the stock price has lots of room for growth along with a growing dividend in order to get the best of both. Most companies that have a dividend of 5% or more don’t have much growth potential in the stock price. It’s a trade off for what your looking for.

Hi Brandon, New investor here, I truly enjoy this episode and the last of the series. I do have one question for someone who is far from retirement: With the fact that this strategy is a little longer to compound, why wouldn’t someone start investing in a high yielding portfolio (to get the ball moving and get capital) and then transition into dividend growth once they have a good amount? Thanks!
@kayvonmotamed3 жыл бұрын
no reason not to, try to balance out how much you have invested in high-dividend stocks vs how much you have in dividend growth stocks
@beaviswealth3 жыл бұрын
Good question, Julien. We believe that having a balanced approach at all times is the long-term winning strategy. But, for sure you could have things more weighted towards high payouts, but always remember that brings a bit more risk as well. You're right... you have lots of time, but building a solid base is always important. Thanks for asking! - Marc

Can you explain what happens when you have us divided ends in your tax free account. I believe you mentioned before with ETFs it’s just worked in the price? But not sure how the divided ends work. I’m wondering if I should sell my Canadian stocks that are in my RRSP and switch them to my Tax Free.
@kayvonmotamed3 жыл бұрын
US dividends are subject to a 15% withholding, so when choosing US stocks, account for that. It isnt recommended to take things out of RRSP's before retirement
@jenniferjordan90703 жыл бұрын
@@kayvonmotamed ok so is the tax taken off at the time they give you the dividend or do you have to claim it on your taxes. What if you set up a drip? How would that work? And I would just sell the Canadian stock and replace it with an American one. I would take the money out of the rrsp.
