My buddy was on the LA scene in the late 80's and partied with all these bands. He said is was a nightmare. Just living in terrible conditions. It was a bunch of addicts running around together. None of it was glamourous and many of them are dead. The vast majority of the living still have addiction issues and terrible health. My buddy is one of them.
@shawnstarks1743
@shawnstarks1743 2 жыл бұрын
@@TrustNone35 Your buddy is exactly right. And that's why so many of those bands got "fucked" over when and if they did get signed by these labels. Easy to screw over a junkie. The Sunset strip had way more casualties than success stories. I mean Crue, Quiet Riot, Poison, Ratt, Warrant, G n R, La Guns that's who made it. That's about it. That's not a whole lot. There were way more London's of the world (Meh)(Sixx's old band) out there than anything else. By the late eighties it was over! If you didn't get signed by 87 you probably weren't gonna make it. I grew up in Runyon Canyon. So I know a little.

LOL that does sound like a lot of Moms in the 80's --- so afraid of our "Satanic" heavy metal music --- I had to hide all my cassettes from my parents so they were kinda clueless what I was listening to --- but it was mostly Ratt, Crue, Whitesnake, and Dokken!

Revisiting your past like Stephen is here, is actually a way of healing for him {emotionally}. It is also saying "good-bye" in a way. I hope and wish the best for him, but none of what I am hearing and seeing looks good. Allot of people when they know the end is near, re-visit their childhood homes {even if it is just to drive pass}, their old school, etc. My dad asked me to drive him back to his old home town for what we both knew would be a final visit. Glad we made the trip. RIP dad, I miss you everyday.

Funny thing is back then, Ratt was what a professional band looked like. When I first saw Metallica, the looked like amateurs by comparison: Zits, greasy, flat hair, t-shirts. They looked like they'd walked out of a trailer park. But Lars convinced the public real metal bands looked like Metallica, and Ratt, Crue, Dokken and the rest were soon on their way out.

W < that being said I'd rather have the priceless memories that man has of the incredible 1980's he has and be stage 4 pancreatic cancer w/ months to live than to have had the life I've had. Imagine in 1981 your broke in a tiny little apartment and then it's 1986 and your a goddam millionaire w/ more money & chicks than you know what to do w/ and your a heavy metal rock star. Incredible life. RATT mansion west looks a helluva lot better than Motley's place up the street from the Whiskey for sure.

I am trying to put a little amp repair and speaker cabinet shop together slowly now that I am hitting 50. But most of the friends I have ever made are behind me, most of the great sex with beautiful women is behind me. Life seems to everything far and few behind. I just keep losing weight and going to yoga class to stay healthy and hopefully I can get a few more life goals in, enjoy a few more hikes and barbecues with friends before it all goes to shit.

I was about 13/14 yrs old & of all the ",hair bands" of my high school days, Ratt was my personal favorite. Back then, I feelell in love as often as the seasons changed The boys slowly got older too, back then nobody blinked an eye if a 16 yr old girl out in date with a 20 yr old, no hysterics or cops called, though a few kids in my neighborhood had really strict & religious folks, most of us were classic survivors of what '80's families looked like:: divorced parents & a kid was fortunate if both parents lived in debsamt

I'll never forget getting that Ratt EP with U Got It on it. They came to play in our small town Duluth Minnesota opening for someone & I'll never forget the look on their faces when the whole crowd started singing the chcruses loudly without any prompting. You could tell something great was going to happen for them & of course did.
