I upgraded from an M1 iPad Pro with 256 gigs of storage. I currently have M4 iPad Pro with one terabyte of storage and 16 GB of ram. I am a composer and I use notation programs like Staff pad and Dorico. With a full orchestral score, I had lags, timing issues, a general muddiness in the audio. It was obviously stressing the ram and the processing power. With the M4 iPad Pro, those issues are completely gone. Timing is precise, there is extreme clarity in the audio, and even the connection with my Bluetooth keyboard has much less latency. And we’re talking about software that is currently available now that does stress the current hardware of the iPad. Not everybody is a video editor gamer or 3-D modeler. It has made a big difference in my use case. And by the way, sample libraries, such as the ones in Staff pad take up a great deal of storage space and require a lot of ram as well . Thank you.

@@BrandonButchtbh, I tried the new version and speakers are just better and louder on the M1 iPad Pro. Also the recording quality, from what I tested seemed to be somehow better on the M1, the camera is indeed placed better in landscape orientation but aside from that I couldn't see any noticeable quality improvement over the M1 model. Oled is good but not worth spending all that amount of money to switch from IPS. Performance is indeed better but the point is, how are you even going to need all that power with iPadOS? Let's be honest, even the M1 on iPads is pretty wasted, there are barely few apps who fully take advantage of it, specifically a very restricted bunch of games and video editing apps, iPadOS as long as it introduced some important desktop features is still way too far from a real laptop experience, it runs the same iOS apps, no command shell, no brew, no package managers, no desktop software compatibility, only the app store, even when I try to use it plugged to a hub I still feel restrictions and uncomfortable stuff compared to a full professional desktop experience. If a M1 is still an overpowered SoC for that type of the device, how is the M4 gonna improve the experience aside from showing off and flexing the spec sheet? Honestly, people who already have a M1 should just keep it and stay happy with it since it's still top tier in terms of benchmarks, upgrading to this model for a OLED screen and a landscape camera is just not worth it unless you have money to throw.

From the M1 iPad Pro to the M4 iPad Pro, there are several significant developments: 1. Size and Design: While the design is similar, the M4 iPad Pro has a slightly larger 13-inch display with smaller bezels. 2. Thickness: The M4 iPad Pro is much thinner with a thickness of 5.1mm, compared to the M1 which has a thickness of 6.4mm. 3. Weight: The M4 iPad Pro is lighter with a weight of 579 grams, while the M1 weighs 682 grams. 4. Display: The M4 iPad Pro introduces OLED screen technology for the first time for an Apple product, offering better contrast and sharper colors compared to the Mini LED screen on the M1. 5. Display Options: The M4 iPad Pro also includes an option for a nano-texture display, reducing reflections and smudging. 6. Keyboard: The Magic Keyboard also received an update, now made of aluminum with additional features like a function row. 7. Performance: The M4 chip offers improved performance, especially in terms of hardware-accelerated ray tracing for gaming and 3D modeling. 8. Camera: There are improvements to the camera, including adaptive true tone flash for document scanning and a landscape-oriented front-facing camera. 9. Battery Endurance: Despite having a smaller battery, the M4 iPad Pro offers better battery life thanks to a more efficient chipset. 10. Camera and Audio Features: The M4 iPad Pro offers enhancements to image processing and studio-quality microphones. 11. Future Potential: The possibility of future exclusive features for the M4, including software optimized for the latest generation chip. 12. Upgrade Recommendation: Brandon recommends upgrading to the M4 iPad Pro, especially to benefit from various enhancements including display, performance, and longer lifespan. 13. Value: Despite significant price differences, Brandon believes that the added value offered by the M4 iPad Pro justifies the additional cost. 14. Comparison with iPad Air and Previous Models: While there are other options such as the iPad Air 5 or iPad Air M2, Brandon suggests considering the M4 iPad Pro due to its significant value additions. 15. User Decision: Brandon has decided to sell their M1 iPad Pro and stick with the M4 iPad Pro after just a week of use, compared to the M2 which lasted about 3 months before reverting to the M1.

OLED on an iPad is the biggest thing for me… because the tablet is so restricted in software that even a 2018 iPad Pro works just fine today - but the OLED display and true HDR allows me to finally watch movies on my bed and while travelling like never before - oh and it’s true blacks. Because a big thing still missing on ALL Apple devices, including the upcoming M4 Macs, is AV1 **Encoding**. Currently the M4 only supports AV1 Decoding. That’s great for consumption, but for exporting edited video, AV1 encoding would be huge for quite some years. So the way I see it, getting a M4 now, with something potentially that big missing yet, could set you up for an upgrade sooner, than you think. At least if you edit videos.

I have the iPad pro M1. Since the M4 model appeared, I always wondered if these minor details, size, thickness etc. were same, and every other review talked mainly about the function, where I was wondering if the Logitech keyboard, the Buddy case, the magnetic stand I got would fit the M4! It's these minor details which decide for me if I want to upgrade, as well as the functionality, as I'm not a constant user of my iPad. Im more concerned about the connectivity with speeds and using an external display to make things look bigger when at home! Thanks for getting TO THE POINTs mentioned!

The weight alone is worth the upgrade from the M1 Pro. Mine is the 13inch and its heavy and bulky, not ideal for my KZbin and web search consumption as i carry it and toss it around the house very often. OLED is a plus since i notice the halo effect with the Mini LED 13inch. Not to mention the how thin it is for a 13 INCH IPAD. Justifiable to upgrade!

The cost of the switch is more than what you're saying once you factor in the new magic keyboard, pencil pro, cases, etc. as the M4 isn't backward compatible. I had a A12Z 11in iPad Pro and after seeing the M4, I went out and bought a discounted M2. A pretty significant boost in performance (Used partially for a golf sim) and I could reuse all of my accessories.

Have a 2018 13” pro that I love. Bought the M2 iPad Pro 13” with pencil and Magic Keyboard for $800 and thought I would sell my 2018. I have ended up using both. Sometimes at the same time (streaming sports) and sometimes use one and then throw it on the charger and whip out the other. For what I use an iPad for (second monitor to MacBook, running think or swim, streaming sports and movies) I can’t tell the difference between my 2018 and 2022. I think I am keeping both.

I upgrade my M1 11” 256gb to the M4 11” 512gb. I agree with all your conclusion. For video editing and rendering with LumaFusion the M4 is smoother and faster. The reason why I picked the 512gb version is that the M4 256gb 11”has significantly slower r/w speed than my previous M1 256gb. I did test it it is over 40% slower and we all know why!

At the end he mentioned that instead of getting an iPad Pro you should get the M2 IPad Air if you’re on a budget and I have a bit of an issue with that. The M2 IPad Air 11in starts at $799 and the 13in at $949. They have the absolute beast of a chip in them, but due to the rest of the design of the iPad Air it’s almost like if you put an insane powerful engine in a standard car. Cool, but it’s not likely to ever be able to display its full potential. A refurbished M2 IPad Pro will run you about the same prices respectively, but you gain the pro-motion display, the LiDAR Scanner in the back camera, a 10-core GPU as opposed to the 9-core GPU in the M2 air, Face ID, and the drastically better sound quality of the speakers. I also don’t think future proofing would be any different than the M2 air because they run on the same chip. In my opinion you’re better off buying a refurbished M2 pro than an M2 air.

I had the M1 with 8 GB of ram and 256 GB of storage. The ram was part of the problem, but mostly in terms of when I had a large orchestral piece with a lot of samples in it. I use Staff pad and Dorico. But I think the faster processor in the M4 was notably effective in the performance of the music. The timing issues that I had before we’re gone. The processor was quick enough and powerful enough to render the composition with very clear audio in all the parts. The Bluetooth connection with my keyboard was with a much lower latency. In summary. I think the ram helped in terms of the amount of instruments that could be loaded, and in future proofing the device, but even though it’s more expensive, the M4 processor is a lot faster. I was very hesitant about making the purchase, but I think it was definitely worth it. I hope this helps.😊

I’m considering getting a iPad Pro to replace my 7 year old Mac Air. The selling features for me to get an iPad are its considerably lighter and I do a lot of work on canva design stuff which will be good on an iPad with the pen etc. I’m then torn between which iPad but a landscape camera on the M4 makes more sense for meetings. But I’m still unsure?! I want it to last me another 7 years like my Mac has. Any help?!

Yeah, I got the new M4 13” iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard for about $1800 after tax… a few days later, I just picked up a used M1 12.9” iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil for $660. I use it to take notes for school and for anatomy apps and so I 1000% don’t need anything fancy, and the older iPad Pro is perfect.

The M4 is the first one I’d seriously consider as an upgrade, but heck if I had the money, I’d possibly jump earlier. It’s just that from the stats etc I saw, it’s genuinely a 50%+ improvement, comparing M4 to my original M1. I’d have to ask has it finally *really* got ThunderBolt 3 full-speed on its solitary external input/output connector? Mine was billed as that (40Gb/s ) but as others found, it was only capable of 20Gb/s. It has other characteristics I suspect that are important to me, as it’s my sole music creation device these days. The other flaw with the i/o is that when charging with the audio in use via the connector (ie a big busker amp in my case via a Belkin hub), once the charge state of the battery reaches 100% there’s an almighty ‘bang’ and the M1 iPad Pro loses all sense. It’s much worse when using a suitable music creation app, all sorts of nuts things happen to your GarageBand project for example, AUv3 plugins ‘forget’ their settings etc. Anyway, I have a few workarounds, that limit the issue now, but mainly it’s a weaker power supply and make sure it’s at 100% charge before creating music on it. Would love an M4, but I’m hanging tight until they match the large format tablets Samsung have issued! Good vid, take care all.
