A word of caution. Do not leave the pencil attached to the iPad when not in use. Why not? Because the pencil is a constant drain on the iPad's battery, charging to remain at 100% battery even when it doesn't need to. I now keep the Apple pencil in my laptop bag when not in use or needing to be charged.
@dazquil
@dazquil 7 ай бұрын
Apple should allow users to set a minimum limit before the pencil should start topping off charge when magnetically attached. Like don’t start recharging my pencil until it is less than 85% or whatever number you chose.

NOT TRUE. :) Your iPad is very smart with how and when it is charging the Apple Pencile and it is safe and recommended to keep attached to iPad. It is just as safe as keeping your Macbook on a charger without damaging battery, which is a thing that Macbooks are known for. All this was confirmed when I talked about the Apple Pencile charging in Apple Store here in Stockholm and even searched for it at Apple Community website. Just google ”Is it safe to keep apple pencil on ipad”. When the pencil is not attached you are risking it getting discharged and then having to be charged again for use. That way you will go through the charging cycles of the battery way faster then when kept on iPad. The amount of battery that the penci takes from iPad is so minimal, that it takes no toll on iPads battery health and it just smartly keeps the Apple Pencil in a healthy charge capacity. So don’t worry and keep it on iPad. I had my iPad Pro 2018 model with Apple Pencile since it was released, attached to one another for 3,5 years and those devices worked like champs with no battery issues. Cheers guys!

I just traded my M1 13 1tb for a M4 13 1tb. The thickness and the screen are amazing. I’m happy. Nano screen seems silly when you can get a protector that gives you the feel and isn’t permanent. Especially since it washes out the new Tandem OLED.

I have a M1 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2TB model with magic keyboard. The hardware is amazing, but iPad OS has made it the most disappointing computer I own. So, I will never buy another iPad Pro all the time it can only run iPad OS. I object to paying a high price for a tablet computer that is crippled to run in a lock down ecosystem of mostly mediocre smart phone style apps. iPad OS workflow gets in the way of how I want to use a computer. I don't want to be restricted to only sourcing applications from Apple's crappy app store. I rarely use my M2 MacBook Pro these days, because of the lack of touch screen and intrinsic stylus support, and instead have transitioned to Windows 11 arm because I can have a computer table with a desktop class operating system. I know for some people, like my Wife, iPad OS works, and for my iPad Mini its fine. But for scientist / engineer, like me, who likes to run emulators, virtual machines, code using a full IDE, draw, do maths, complex analytical spreadsheets, play games, re-image external SSDs and memory cards, etc, iPad OS feels so inadequate, and an M4 iPad Pro would be a massive waste of money.

I would like an iPad to edit home movies while on the go, plus need it to put sheet music, to play organ at church and community choir, on it instead of lugging around heavy music books. Buying the newest iPad is a bit too expensive for me. What is a good quality iPad that for my use? Do the M1 & M4 difference make a difference in editing speed, or what generation? Do you know of a sheet music app that I can just nod my head or wink, or hands-free to turn the pages? I'm kind of confused of which one to get and if it's really worth it to get the latest model.
@TheAppleBias

I’d say the M1 would be a great model for you. Just make sure you get enough GBs to store the videos. Editing speed difference is super minimal with what you are wanting to do the M1 will be plenty fast enough. I am not sure of what sheet music app is best but I’m sure someone has the videos on KZbin comparing them.

@mariannelorddunn7328 happy to help! As far as the iPad goes. I’d look for a 512gb model M1. That should be enough space for editing home movies. If you want cellular those are extra and you’d have to pay monthly for the cellular access. I usually just by the WiFi only models and use my phones hotspot for connection. It’s not as fast and a little pain but since I don’t need the connection on my iPad that often it’s better than paying the extra costs.

The difference in thickness is not perceivable when either unit is in a protective case. I have no use for a Terabyte size storage; use less than half of the 128 Gig base storage on my M1. I use a textured paper-ish screen protector and stainless pen tip, to get a somewhat pencil feel and some screen protection. I think the nano texture screen is worth $100, but not expanding the SSD at Apple's outrageous cost for storage. So I will stick with my M1 iPad for now; the mini-LED LCD works well enough for me. BUT if M4 were the only model that would support MacOS on it, I would upgrade. Wish the new pen would work with M1; I would buy it immediately. My 2 cents.

4:07 Not to be confused with mini-LED, micro-LEDs are even tinier, and offer a much bigger change to TV technology. Current micro-LED sizes are as small as 50μm - about 0.002 inches across - making them 1/100th the size of a conventional LED. That's just about small enough to serve as a single pixel in conventional TV sizes and resolutions, and that's where micro-LED gets really interesting. If mini-LEDs provide a refinement on the existing LCD backlight, micro-LED promises to be more revolutionary, offering a technology that can go head to head with OLED and win, with better brightness and more vivid color. The iPad is equipped with mini LEDs, not micro LEDs. This youtuber is confused with this.

Because the M1 & M2 iPad Pro 11 never had miniLED, I could easily recommend selling them for a down payment on an OLED M4 11-inch. Otherwise, if you use your iPad Pro like I do, just as a giant iPhone with tablet features, then M1 and M2, although technically inferior, will still be good for another 18 months. Apple's problem is that for years, they have been the King of tablet performance, with the M1 still comparable with 2024 Android tablets. By giving consumers headroom and future-proofing, Apple has longer upgrade cycles. Hence, Apple's creep in price means that higher prices can regulate sales loss. Although more expensive, consumers can see the value as they last longer. I have a three-year-old M1 iPad Pro and expect to keep that for six years, and even in that sixth year, it will still be relevant against the best Android has. The M4 is even more so!

You forget one HUGE thing: Android tablets for years have most needed desktop functions: from the file system to multi windows to easy WiFi direct file sharing (between brands) and even desktop like modes (DeX for example). Even if the raw power isn’t as powerful as the equivalent iPads, they have enough power AND allow you to really do some work. To wrap up: even if Qualcomm chips aren’t as powerful as Apple’s , Android and windows ARM allow you to do anything; iPadOS and even macOS…it’s not like that.

18 months? I have an M1 Pro 12.9” with 1tb and 5g and I’ll probably use it for 5 more years comfortably without missing anything the newer models would bring. The m4 is pretty much the exact same thing, just slightly thinner and a very slightly better display. Apple literally had to limit the new accessories to the new model so people would be more tempted to buy it, because in day to day usage there’s almost zero difference.

After looking at the iPP M4 reviews my conclusion was to upgrade my 2. Gen 12.9 iPP (iPadOS 18 will no longer support this iPad Pro) to the M1 iPP 12.9! I am doing all my video and photo work on my iMac or MacBook if I have to (I am not a KZbinr, so that is not so often). If I need to edit and write text on a more intense level I am doing that on MacOS too. Because of that I did not even buy the Magic Keyboard. It make no sense to me to make a second class laptop out of a fist class tablet! I am using the iPad as is was intended from Steve Jobs ("The iPad is third device in addition to the iPhone and the Mac, no replacement!") The M1 iPP costs about halve the money of the M4! It even has some advantages to me like the SIM slot and the second camera, that I find occasionally useful. The M1 on iPadOS is more than powerful enough for my kind of tasks. I gave up the idea of using the iPad as a laptop several years ago. Even with MacOS it will be a worse laptop than my really great MacBook Air 15". This 15" laptop is the perfect addition than to the iPP and these two devices cost not more than a fully equipped M4 iPP...

This is a total NON SENSE comparison! You cannot compare two models so different, both in ram and ssd department! In the iPadOS world 8gb vs 16gb of ram makes HUGE difference, from a performance standpoint. Especially when we talk about professional workflows. If, instead, we talk about simple/medium generic workflows, than no one need and iPad pro because all the common tasks can be perfectly accomplished with a bare iPad 9/10 gen.

Yes the ram and hard drive are different. It’s not a nonsense comparison. This is the same as comparing a base model m1 mac to an upgraded m3 Mac. There is always information to be learned on any comparison. In this case yes the M4 is going to be faster. It probably will also beat the M1 with 1TB and 16gb ram model as well. But the time it takes between those are most likely less. It’s all about time savings. And I showed the results of these 2 devices. Which is a legit comparison.
