It’s a luxury when compared to the Saiga 12’s that got imported into the states. The saiga’s all had hunting stocks and no pistol grips. People had to do conversions on them to move the trigger and accept normal AK furniture. Meanwhile the Vepr 12 already is set up without and conversion work out of the box plus it’s built on a beefier RPK receiver. So compared to the state of imported saiga 12s I’d say the Vepr is the luxury model ak shotgun.

Gonna go full boomer here and say that magazine-fed shotguns are just a bad idea in general. Tube magazine shotguns have worked as a reliable and agile platform for over a century now, and running almost anything rimmed that isn't .22LR out of a mag is just asking for double-feeds and rimlock. Game won't need 10 shells, and armed intruders might need more. Just run a +1 extended tube and side saddle and git gud with tac reloading, or get an actual rifle in an intermediate caliber with a standard capacity detachable magazine. Mating the two is just the worst of both worlds in my opinion.

So much vocal support for this gun despite it's budget build, which says to me either Bran has a broken gun there; or he's loaded it incorrectly (which seems very unlikely). But it's great to see that most people are happy with it, at the end of the day - if you need a gun you want it to work when it's tasked. It might be missing a birdshot, it might be saving a life. Whatever the scenario you don't want awkward chamber rubix cubes to contend with! So happy to see 90% of people not seeing these issues. I have a few mag-fed semi autos and they are all fun, but I have a hard time recommending any expensive or cheap for reliable use. A 100% reliable semi auto 12ga is already hard enough, when you add in the not-so-feed-friendly geometry of 12ga shell, with squishy plastic as opposed to solid brass into a magazine, you make it even harder. This is why most militaries which still use shotguns at all either use a bomb-proof semi with a tube (like the Benellis) or a simple pump shotgun with a tube mag.

Used a Tom Cole conversion choke tube to thread on a Saiga compatible brake and it shoots great. I am keeping an eye on the bolt for wear, but so far so good.
