There's nothing about it that couldn't be adapted to other calibers, but the same can be said for a lot of other firearm designs.

Hey Brandon, cheers from Russia and thanks for amazing content! Ive got the very similar Saiga here in Russia, and I do love this gun. Fun thing is, that right before the US gov banned genuine AK products, they made a bunch of these hunting 19” barrel Siagas for the US market. Since this format of a gun is not very popular among Russian hunters, Kalashnikov have made a fancy twist: they’ve added proper AK-74M stock, modern handgrip (similar to Saiga-9/Vityaz carbine), sport mag receiver, and 10 rounds mags. As a result, we have pretty universal 12 gauge shotgun, that is GOOD for sport, home defence, and even hunting. It is comfortable to use, reloads any shitty self-made round, and f..ing reliable, as AK should be. Check it out, it’s called “Saiga-12 version 278” or “Сайга-12 исп. 278” in Russian.

@ALSO-RAN ! they were used in Nam in shotguns because they were stable and had better range as a result shooting thru that insane undergrowth. And they're more effective against body armor than any shot due to smaller diameter and mass behind the leading point to push after impact whereas all the energy of shot is absorbed and dispersed on impact. And the concept goes back to WWI, cases of fletchett shaped spikes were handed dropped by pilots out of wooden cases on infantry and gun installations, precursor to HE bombing. Effective too, they were BIG, several inches long and maybe ½" dia. Get hit? Fucked off.
