The R.O. at the range where I teach, told me that one handed press check (which I also griped about) he said is something competition shooters and military do sometimes (not one handed) to check the chamber if it's too hot. To make sure the rounds are seating properly and not swelling from the heat from being fired a lot. As you know, a hot gun sometimes can cause the brass to swell or even crack on contact with a burning hot chamber. Personally, I've never had that problem... but I don't often dump ammo... cant afford to lol Anyway, turns out he was right. Keanu actually said in an interview about that scene that the gun didn't chamber properly and seat flush, so he did a check and when he dropped the slide after the press check it was okay. They thought it was cool and the rest of the scene was perfect, so they left it in the final cut. So.. I guess some times cool looking stuff has a reason! Whooda thunkit?!
@cymond
@cymond 4 жыл бұрын
That seems weird. If the chamber is so super hot that the round cannot seat properly from a full length slide draw, then I wouldn't expect it to seat properly from a little baby pull.
@DanteYewToob
@DanteYewToob 4 жыл бұрын
@@cymond Basically it's a check, if you can pull it back a bit with one hand, your round is chambered properly or the extractor has slipped the round. It can be two things. 1. You pull it back a bit and feel a slight resistance (from the round under the one in the chamber pushing up and applying a pushing force to the bottom. Typically this aids in extracting the brass.) Take a quick look, and if the extractor claw is properly seated, the round is aligned and okay... good to go. Drop the slide and continue. 2. You pull it back and if you feel almost no resistance (aside from the spring) and look and realize the claw isn't gripping the case. (This is what happened to Keanu) you pull it back a bit more and drop it, letting the force and weight push the claw into position and seat the round. In the movie they used a special type of blanks, and because they are shorter than normal it got in front of the extractor I guess and didn't seat properly. Keanu did the right thing which is pretty awesome. He thinks more like a competition shooter than a tactical shooter though, because a normal tactical operator would've just dumped the round and done a type one drill/FTF drill. That's a failure to feed drill and involves doing a tap-rack, which you smack the bottom of the magazine as hard as you can within reason and rack the slide as hard as you can in one swift motion. That should correct any stack issues, and seat a new round. Hope that clears it up for you.

My father has a bolt action 22lr with a suppressor and a special barrel, without subsonic you can only hear the hammer. Ive seen alot of suppressors that can make the report of the bullet akin to dropping something, but the action of the bolt is so fuckin loud and thats what people who are ignorant about guns dont understand. A gun can only be as quiet as its action, and bolts or slides slamming home are fuckin loud. Its big bad hollywood disinformation that is ruining society.

@@xmm-cf5eg The way I see it, of COURSE John Wick wouldn't have actually used a 2011 and a Sig MPX to defeat body armor. However, because he did, we got an awesome scene from it. I assume that's why it was chosen, so they can have that "oh shit" moment and then get a real gun to defeat the new challenge. However I am kinda annoyed that they chose a shotgun to do so, but it was cool too. Not quite sure m193 or m855 would have penetrated that armor anyways tbh

@@RhodokTribesman To an extent. Consider it like jiffy lube vs an actual mechanic shop. A mechanic can change the oil but the jiffy lube guy typically can't do an engine rebuild. A Smith can be a builder if the smith produces his own parts and or assembles them, but a builder is typically someone who just pieces together prefabricated parts meant to fit. I guess the best example would be a construction worker building a house, vs a guy using a pop up tent. The tent is ready made and just put pipes in pre fit holes and tada shelter, vs measuring, leveling building and fabricating.

You should check out a T.V. show from the mid 2000's called 'The Unit'. Follows the adventures of a Delta team. The show was based from a book written by a former Delta operator, who ended up becoming a producer on the show, as well as technical adviser. Several aspects of the show, & storylines & plots points are taken directly from real Delta operations. And they made sure to get as much as possible right. From weapons likely to be used in real life, to tactics, to lingo & behavior. It's a great show, & surprisingly were able to squeeze 4 seasons of a show of this nature out of CBS. It'd be awesome if you were to do a review of it, but even if you can't/don't, I still think you'd enjoy it for a watch.

2:40 The reason you would shoot into a pillow like that isn't to suppress the sound of the gunshot, it's actually to prevent blood splatter
@Killerean
@Killerean 5 жыл бұрын
For the suppressor scene - I totally agree. The two would really hardly wait for each other. In fact, the wild west duels would be the best example. In these, nobody ever waited for anything. In fact, they were hardly duels at all, as there is only one recorded instance of a "duel" happening somewhat close to western movies. And that was really a random occasion and totally coincidental set of circumstances that got two people standing against each other with hands levitating over their revolvers. When it comes to suppressors, those are recycling and transforming the free unused energy in the shot. Part of the power is translated to the bullet (because longer barrel) part turns in to heat, part is cancelled and part escapes with a lot of noise. If you want to completely silence a gun, you'll have to come up with material and shape that would effectively absorb all of the energy of the shot. So either the suppressor will have to be large enough to contain the entire explosion from the cartridge, or you will have to come up with some space grade science stuff. Or have something with severely limited lifetime that will be translating the energy in to its degradation.

So for anybody watching this in 2020, the reason why John does that weird slide pull at 7:12 is because that specific gun he is using has a tendency to lock up/jam after reloading, so he pulls it back a bit to make sure he's clear before he continues shooting and he gets shot because his gun is screwed. (not my personal knowledge btw, it was something I read awhile back from gun aficionados)

That subway scene in a semi-DND nutshell: John, roll for perception... 1! Roll for sneak... 20! Assassin guy, roll for perception...1! Roll for sneak...20! Note: don’t crucify me idk if perception affects accuracy or not in DND I don’t play it I just know 1=shitter and 20=the reincarnation of Christ

My biggest issue with JW3 was when they were talking about the "major armor advancements" made for their ultra badass assassin assault team and the first round the dude suggested was a damn 9mm.
