I love the fact that in the John Wick movies. While people might think John is some “perfect” fighter who is infallible, you can clearly see where he misses throws with the knives and messes up in hand to hand. But it’s his knowledge and technique that save him. Makes it feel way more real.
@pitchblacknext Жыл бұрын
This. When you mentioned knowledge and technique you're spot on. John Wick is a certified badass assassin BUT he's not invincible and not perfect. We associate the term master with perfection, which 9/10 times, yes, thier skills are flawless. But no one is 100% immune to mistakes. What really defines a master is that they have that knowledge and experience to RECOVER and ADAPT when they make an error, misjudgement, screw up, or they are one upped. A lot of masters make mistakes but they know how to mask those mistakes and make the mistake look natural or intended. That ability to recognize a mistake and adjust to that on the spot- without hesitation or without it stopping his flow in it's tracks- is the skill of a master, and one John Wick displays time and time again.

I really like how John Wick's early throws bounce off before he gets the hang of it. It tells a story that John either hasn't practiced knife throwing in a while, as he clearly prefers guns, or has little to no experience with knife throwing, but picks it up quick. You see something similar in the nunchuck scene in 4 where at the start of the fight John is basically using it like a club, smacking people with it, often two-handed, but clearly acclimates to fighting with it as the scene continues. until he's deftly using it in tandem with a pistol.

A- seems like a really fair grade. I'm no expert at Kali or Judo, but I've been training in kickboxing and BJJ for years, and the choreography in the John Wick movies has always been very authentic to those disciplines. Of course, they are movies, so they get some leeway for doing things incorrectly from a technique standpoint, because they have to build tension and make things eye-catching for cinematic purposes. With that said, another fantastic breakdown from Scenic Fights! The cameo from the Great Throwdini was also really cool.
@IceX92 Жыл бұрын
Honestly this is the best fight scene out of all 4 movies (at least the one without guns). It's fast, chaotic, brutal, relentless, and yet pretty believable. The fact that no one realized that all glasses in these scenes are CGI another plus to me

I think this goes to show just how much of an unappreciated art form this is. People who are into action movies and who are trained in these martial arts understand, but largely people don't even consider just how much nuance goes into the choreography and training. Chad and company went a long way to making the John Wick franchise as seamless, tight, and realistic looking as they could for this kind of film. And you can see and feel just how much that effort pays off. That you can go through these fights and talk about how realistic they are and how accurate the martial arts is, even if the general audience doesn't know, is testament to how much work was put into these films and how underappreciated that effort is. John Wick, for me, truly is the greatest action franchise we have going right now.

One thing I noticed in this scene is that John Wick tends to strike with an open hand vs throwing punches. This is a nice detail and a smart move by John Wick; when throwing punches with no wraps, you risk breaking your fingers. John Wick needs his hands to work in order to shoot his guns.

Break-dance Fall @8:52 putting the Art back in the Martials babay. Love the idea of the integration of the melee range knife work with the throwing. This is something I have considered myself in my training as I integrate the Nodachi 2 handed sword forms with spear throwing techniques, as the Nodachi is balanced for throwing. This leaves little chance of the opponent being able to effectively disengage if you don't want them to.
