You’re killing it man! No one would ever have known that you hadn’t been long poling for years if you hadn’t told us. The long pole technique is especially deadly on those roaming fish that need a bait soaked in front of their faces for a few seconds. Can’t wait til the next video!

I know you're a bass fisherman for a living but you put out some great crappie videos. I'm pretty sure I've watched all the ones you've made and I haven't seen a bad one yet.

Really appreciate that. I have a lot of fun with it. It’s a nice break from the hustle of the tournament trail. Thanks for watching!

Great video man! I really enjoy your content! Those diamond series are great! I have a 10 fter and have found that is about the longest length that I can handle. 8-10 ft seems to be a good medium. Keep the videos rolling!

Great video. I won't claim to be an expert, but I have really liked crappie fishing with a 10ft rod for a few years now. Love it because you can still cast with it and not be too awkward. I fish with an 11 some too. Not quite as easy casting, but still manageable.

I also use long rods from 10 to 16 footers I find the long rod is very good when the crappie get spooky. I use straight braid or mono line. Haven’t tried the leader on braid yet. Here on Grandlake ok the fish get really deep on the south end in the winter. Thanks for all your info Your videos are great Happy 🎣

We typically use the long rod on black fish when they suspend in the winter and pre-spawn. It is amazing for targeting single fish or when the wolf packs start roaming end of Jan. You have the correct setup, braid and fluro leader with pegged weight. This month and next month is dock shooting, so put down the long rod and shoot some docks! Thanks for the footage, enjoy it.

AWSOME!!!!! that B&M diamond pole looks cool. I like to double rig my long pole with 1/16 but like u said I’d rather stay back and cast guess that’s a bass fishing deal. Watching your videos is what got me casting to them so thx. again for the tips.

I’ve been using at 10 foot jig rod with straight 6 pound mono around standing timber. It took a little bit at first getting used to landing fish but quickly learned not to boat flip bigger crappie with a 10 foot or bigger rod so went and got a longer handle net.

Fun, fun right there! Love fishing my old 10’ BnM. I usually use 8lb hi-vis on my 10’ and 4-6lb on my other rod set ups. I’ve wanting to try some of the Vicious braid though.

I’m still in experimental phase for sure with the braid for crappie, but I’m liking it. You can feel them breathe on it. Thanks for watching!

Why put the bobber stop above and below the weight instead of letting it move up and down the line?
@BrandonLesterFishing
@BrandonLesterFishing Жыл бұрын
Because I want the weight and my jig to stay separate. The jig wouldn’t look near as natural with 1/4 ounce weight on top of it. Thanks for watching!

Why do you have your one hand pulling on the line ? Depth control?

Me and my brother use the 12 and 14s on a lake not far from you lol but we use a jig or hair jig with live minnow on it as well in brush tops...and we do the same thing on standing timber down at sardis lake in Mississippi as well

I use a ten or 12 ft slab daddy jiggin pole with a bobber and a bobber stopper or some type of peg x. So you can adjust your depth. And mostly use live bait but always have one with a little jig on it also. And I normally just use panfish mono

Does this technique work well on clear highland reservoirs? I noticed you hadn’t been using the long poles in any more videos. I’ve learned a ton from your channel. I’d like to get better with the long rod.

Hey man jig poles are the shhhh lol I used a 10,12 and 13ft both in my boat and the bank. They all play a different role and I use straight braid because that thump is unexplainable compared to mono in my opinion. Just remember your depth and don't me scares to crank that reel if you have too being your fishing deeper than usual. Its a lot of fun from the bank around laydowns and Lilly's. Good way to limit out faster than others. 1on1 combat 🎣

I'm like you, I'd rather cast tight lining. To me you catch more. I'm not knocking jigging, but I think that it is good for deep water brush. I'm going to buy some long poles and to do something different. I've done it with my 6 and 7 ft poles a few times. Like the vid.

I custom build my rods. I have 9 foot 2 piece fly rod blanks , # 4,#5 and 6 weight blanks, soils cork handle, no fixed reel seats. I also have a 7 foot one piece, I load my reels with 2 lb test and 4 lb test. Copolymer. I try and get all the fight I can out of um. If I was tournament fishin I guess I would go to braid and Flora carbon and skiin um in. I do hand tie most of my jig as well. Use both weedless and open hook. I’ve had several jig mold custom milled so use some different weights. I do enjoy you videos but would be nice if you could nation body of water your on! Thank man!

I use a 12' rod usually over brush or in the spring doodle stocking in the spring from the bank. I do want to ask if you have ever used feather jigs for crappie? It's a good alternative when the fish are finicky. Gives them a different look at a bait
@BrandonLesterFishing
@BrandonLesterFishing Жыл бұрын
I’ve tried hair jigs a few times and I always go back to plastics. In my opinion plastics look and feel more natural to the fish, but if hair jigs work for you by all means use them. It all boils down to confidence. Thanks for watching!

I use 12-14’ jig poles. Excellent in vertical timber where casting is not practical, or dropping down inside brush piles. I use straight braid 15-20 lb. Instead of pegging the weight, take the braid and run it through a tungsten bullet weight 3 times. It will not slide and is way quicker than pegging weights and using leaders….straight braid.

i fish with a 6'0 rod and 1 pound line. That same lake, and very often that same brush. As a matter of fact, it is almost certain that it was me who released that crappie, as not many others release them.

I will only use a 14ft rod when dipping in brush during the spawn or livescopeing for individual fish (I really don't like fishing this method). I much prefer to pitch to them with a 8-10ft rod. Like you say line control is uncomfortable with a super long rod.
