I appreciate you showing the actual difficulty of getting the lock ring on and off. To many other youtube mechanics bullshit and say "all you need is a toothbrush!" not literally but you get the point. Anyway thank you for the honest content! I had to order a new ring we'll see how it goes!

@@Brandonlexx1 I went ahead and ordered one and it arrived today. Just looks like too good of a design to me not to work. I've got basically the same buick lesabre. . Actually watching you use that large set of channel locks and a screwdriver certainly makes me think this thing should work easier than that. Thanks for your reply and I will reply back again on how it works so others will know also. May be a week or so as it's awful cold now outside lol

I should check the connections between aftermarket and OEM connectors. I trouble shot the connector and it was not crimped properly. I also checked to hear the pump buzzing.. it’s an after market pump that finally failed during a rain storm. Great video! Well done.

My fuel gauge is floating around from 1/2 to full and back. I'm suspect that eventually (in the very near future) I will need to replace this pump/gauge combination unit in order to keep my 114k, '03 LeSaber Celebration Limited on the road. Good idea with the channel locks and screwdriver to get lock ring off! Helps to not have a full tank of gas tho. Lol. New lock ring helps. I always spray a little lithium grease on the new rubber seal so you don't rip up the seal, also so it doesn't move out of place, especially if you reuse the old rusty ring. Hammer and flathead to install new ring is much easier.

The hardest part for me what lifting the pump out. The diameter seems to be the exact same as the hole or event a little bigger after swelling? and super hard to line up. you did a nice twist and level lift. I could never do that and have changed 3 of these. I finally took a utility knife and shaved plastic off the hole to make the hole a little bigger. Worked but got a few scraps in the tank. worked okay though. They are too big to make it through the sock or holes.

How did you know which wires to splice?
@joephillips42914 ай бұрын
Rather than splice the wires, I used an adapter made by Casper Electronics in Coloradeo. "GM Fuel Pump adapter". However, the new fuel pump came with a warning that you should do the splice anyway because as a fuel pump goes bad, it often damages the original square connector.
@widowmaker40972 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this vid. Im wondering why would new fuel pump not come with that piece of plastic.. also why does it look so awkward trying to get it in/out? Im guessing im going to get milked by a mechanic... thanks for this vid im thinking this is the problem with my lesabre.
@Brandonlexx1 Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the slow response. I have wondered many times why they don't send clips. 🤷. Awkward coming out because it is full of gas and don't want to spill in the trunk.

I have a question. i have the same car and starts and runs but the fuel gauge hasn't been working it bobs around and sometimes reads the fuel and then just goes back to empty so i never know how much gas i have. Is this a fuel gauge issue or is there a sensor and is it located on the fuel pump?
@Brandonlexx1 Жыл бұрын
Honestly could be either. With a scan tool you can monitor the readings and determine which it is. There is a sending unit attached to the fuel pump.

How do u know which wires to connect
@Brandonlexx1 Жыл бұрын
There are two heavy gauge wires. They are for the pump. Two smaller whites for the sending unit. I don't remember colors off the top of my head. Maybe I will look up a diagram for you tomorrow.

@@Brandonlexx1 ahh cool at least they're all not same size. Gotta do the job soon my brothers 2000 lost it's prime plus the gas gauge doesn't work so definitely near future. If u could I would appreciate that a lot but I might be able to figure it out too

Large black wire is pump ground. Other large wire is pump hot. Other two are for the sending unit. If the level doesn't read then swap them. The instructions should tell you the wiring for the pump side.
