For nearly 500 years the cup has been withheld from lowly non-priests in the Catholic Church. This is not a trivial doctrinal disagreement. Jesus made it clear when speaking to his disciples in John chapter 6 that if you do not obey and eat and drink than you have no life in you. And you will not be raised up on the last day. Exodus 20:4-5 says, "Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them." A graven image is an idol-an object or image, such as a statue, that is worshiped as the representation of a deity or god. The word graven means “carved” or “sculpted.” Graven image refers to some kind of object or image that has been made to represent a god. Crucifix and cross would fall into that category.

Just some thoughts that came to me as I watched this wonderful video: I don't wear a cross or a crucifix every day. Being Catholic, I prefer to wear a crucifix when I do wear this symbol, although I also have a couple of crosses I like to wear. I often don't wear them for others, but for myself. I wear them on days when I feel a little distant from God; if I'm having a rough day, the chosen piece reminds me that God is with me. It's like carrying a picture of a loved one in your wallet or in a locket on a chain around one's neck. I don't love the picture itself, I love the one IN the picture, and having their picture keeps them close in heart. Just my two cents. God bless, everyone!

I grew up in a Baptist church. And while I had heard the stories of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus all my life, it never REALLY made an impact until I was 12. We were in Canada, don't remember now where we were. We had gone up the east coast into Maine, then into Canada and headed west to Niagara Falls. So somewhere in between. There was a large Catholic church that was a tourist attraction, so we had gone in. They had the stations of the cross, which I had never heard of before, let alone seen. And they were much more graphic than anything I had seen prior. When we came out, my parents noticed that I was really quiet. When they asked me why, I told them that I never realized how bad it was. I think that's true for all of us. No matter how much we love God, none of us can truly understand the agony of the cross. None of us can cry out, My God, My God, why have you forsaken Me? since He's promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Instead, we're the ones going astray and turning our backs on God.

Not in mean or condemning way but There is no such thing as a Catholic Christian. A Christian puts their faith in Jesus and stops there as the Bible says. A Catholic relies on the Church, sacraments, repetitious prayers to Mary, Mass, none of which are biblical for salvation. And no one who is part of the church can know if their saved since it’s works based. take away all these things and what do you Have? Jesus the one who says over and over I am the way the truth and the Life, I am the resurrection. The will of the Father is to believe on the Son. Paul says if you add anything to the Gospel which is repent Faith alone in Jesus then you fall from Grace. If your still not sure look up Ephesians 2:8-9 it explains that it is a free gift and there’s no amount of mass or works or penance or hail Mary’s that can save you. Because it is the gift of God His Son Jesus death in place of our and all we have to do put our faith in our Lord Jesus and He will regenerate us take out our stony heart and give us a new one of flesh Ezekiel 36:26. Most Catholics were born into it and just never look into the scriptures for themselves but I Hope this helps Brother, and God bless you on your journey!

@@TheLionofJudah3183 Catholics believe Jesus is what saves them, the mass adheres to what Jesus says in John 6, “Unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life within you. The sacraments are sure, not precisely defined in scripture, but it is sprinkled out in scripture, John 3:5, “ Unless one is born again of water and spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of God”, which is baptism. Confirmation can be found in the book of acts where the apostles laid hands on people and anointed them with olive oil. For confession Jesus says in John 20:23,” Whoever sins you forgive are forgiven and whoever sins you retain are retained. Veneration to Mary may not be found in the Bible since she was still alive by that point, but in the early church, figures like Irenaus of Lyonns, Origen etc held Mary of high esteem. The part about repetitious prayer is only about vain repetition, not repetition in itself as you see Jesus saying the same prayer in the garden. And as regards to works-based salvation the council of Trent says that whoever believes that one is justified by works, let him be anathema. But Catholics do believe that works do play a role in our salvation, as in the first moment of our salvation which is what Ephesians 2:8-9 is talking about, it is by faith alone, but as then our goal of salvation is no longer to be saved but to become more like God, this is Theosis, the idea of us participating in the very nature and essence of God(2 Peter 1-4) and this idea of becoming more like God is an everyday thing, and can be lost as seen in Galatians, Corinthians and other warning passages who specifically warns the reader that doing heinous acts shall not be tolerated in heaven, and therefore salvation cannot be certain as one does not know their future and cannot know for sure if they would stay loyal to God. And in regards to the famous Ephesians 2:8-9, it is parallel to Colossians 2:12 and Galatians 3:25-27 which say that we are baptized through faith.

@@deusvult8340 I politely disagree He wasn’t speaking literally He was saying to have communion in remembrance of Him and the fact that He gave His body up as a sacrifice for our sins to all that just believe as stated in John 6:47 John 5:24 John 3:15 John 3:16 John 6:40 John 6:29 Romans 10:13 acts 16:31 if He were speaking literaly there would be people walking around with no eyes and missing a hand if it causes you to sin gauge it out there would be people that eat books (eat the scroll) (eat the little book in Rev) Jesus would be an actual star the morning star He spoke in riddles/ parables because He didn’t want to over explain to undeserving unbelievers believe that you have been blinded by one of satans favorite “ism” all “isms”/religion is made up by man and is mans self righteousness or trying to please God to enter Heaven. No Church can save you. The will of the Father and All that God asks is that you believe on the Son As far as being born again it is NOT baptism. The Holy Spirit can only be had by doing the will of the father which is found in John 6:40. It’s either easy believism which is what the Bible teaches or being religious/self righteous you choose but if you choose your way you will be the one who didn’t do the Fathers will in Matt 7:21 re-read it and you will see yourself and the rest of the broad road people and these people have tried to rob Christ of getting 100% of the glory on the cross man can’t add to it just have to believe that’s it if you deny this then you call the verses that I listed and Gods word a lie. I know these are harsh words but it’s because I was once where you are I was I was in a similar self righteous robbing Christ religion no different than the unsaved Pharisees their called the Calvinists I started to believe in some of the false teachings such as repent of your sins. Anyways I hope you can open your mind and see God made salvation so that even a 5 year old can understand it but satan came along and threw up religions again and he threw up Repetitious prayers to Mary which God says do not do meaningless repetitive prayers so you think that you will be heard insulting God you in the process like the Pharisees. It also says in Deuteronomy do not pray to the dead it also says there is one mediator between God and men the Man Christ Jesus. God bless

@@TheLionofJudah3183 Alright let’s take a look at the Eucharist for a moment, you say that Jesus speaks symbolically and that would be right. But in John 6, you see that when he says that you must eat and drink of the Son of Man, the Pharisees questioned amongst themselves on how this is possible, but unlike other places like the woman at the well or with Nicodemus, he never says, “hey you misunderstand, I’m just saying it symbolically(or spiritually).” He actually doubles down and says, “Unless you drink the blood of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life within you.” And even when his disciples question amongst themselves, he merely reprimands them and they eventually leave him and only the apostles were left. Not once did he ever clarify. And the church never takes away from Christ, in the Council of Trent or the Counter-Reformation, they actually condemn anyone who says they can work their way to salvation. But what the church does say in that you can get an increase of Salvation, this increase of salvation can be called Theosis or divinization(2 Peter 1:4, Gal 2:20) where in this world, we are continually being conformed to Christ and becoming more like him. And the reason we say that outside the church there is no salvation is because Christ established and instituted the church(Matthew 18, Matthew 16) and therefore to reject the institution Christ established is to reject him although there are some exceptions. And if I read correctly, you said repentance is a false doctrine, well if you say that then you imply that Peter was lying when he said you must repent and be baptised for the forgiveness of sins(Acts 2:38)

But the people grew impatient on the way; 5 they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” 6 Then the Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died.7 The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. 8 The Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived. John 3:14-16 New International Version 14 Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Galatians 3:1 New International Version 3 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. 1 Corinthians 2:1-2 New International Version 2 And so it was with me, brothers and sisters. When I came to you, I did not come with eloquence or human wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.2 For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corinthians 1:18 New International Version Christ Crucified Is God’s Power and Wisdom 18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God Matthew 16:24 New International Version 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.

I agree, symbols and rituals only help to distance from God. Scriptures clearly say that Worship to God is with Spirit and Truth. Not symbols and rituals. We can see from scriptures the qualities of Spirit and Truth is Jesus. Worship through imitating Jesus. Through saving and rescuing, the sick, poor, hungry, physically and spuritually. Did the disciples and apostles wear or worship with symbols? Did the apostles and first century Christians worship with rituals?

As a lifelong Protestant I can speak to wearing both a Crucifix and a Cross at different times. Earlier in my life I would wear the Cross as a reminder to myself about my risen Lord. Now I wear a Crucifix to remind myself of Jesus' suffering. Lately I have been studying Catholicism. I don't know that I will ever convert however, I do like a Catholic Mass. A Catholic Mass is more solemn and reverent in tone than any Protestant service I have ever attended. There isn't the gossiping and talking about drivel in the sanctuary of a Catholic church like what I have witnessed many times at Protestant services. I like that Catholics during a Mass are more focused on God. There is far more scripture read by the priest. I like being able to light a candle in church for those whom I'm thinking of. I like being able to kneel and pray. I like the idea of genuflection before the Tabernacle upon entering the sanctuary. I like that there is a central church authority that clarifies Church tradition and is able to answer questions based on both biblical and church tradition and authority. That said there are some things I like about a Protestant service. I love most of the music. Catholic music generally does not speak to me the same way that Protestant music does. I like that Protestants stress a personal relationship with Christ, unfettered by going through a human (or saintly) intermediary to access God. Protestants also seem a bit warmer in church than what I have observed of Catholics. Perhaps that's because I have not availed myself of the more social aspects of Catholicism like dinners at the Knights of Columbus or some of the weekday Bible studies. Time will tell.

check into the worship of Mary. Prayers to Mary ,Priests and child sexual abuse etc...There are a lot of things that are plain wrong. The very reasons that we now have Protestant churches.
@dominicewing89403 жыл бұрын
@@jamesmorgan2064 1. Catholics don't "worship" Mary. They venerate her. She is the mother of Christ and is deserving of respect. She is not God, and therefore is not to be worshiped, which Catholics believe, and it strictly forbidden by the Church. 2. Yes there have been cases of child abuse, and sexual assaults within the Church. However those examples are outliers and are not mainstream, nor does the church teach to do those things. Those acts are forbidden and sinful. Humans are susceptible to wrong doing. Priests are human and are able to commit atrocious acts. That however does not de-legitimize the Church. Mattew 16:18 said the gates of hell would not prevail against the Church, so no matter what atrocious acts are committed by humans, even humans belonging to the Church, the Church will not fall. 3. To pray is to simply ask for something. When Catholics pray to Mary they're typically asking for her to pray for them. To pray isn't necessarily to "worship." Intention I believe are critically important. If a Catholic prays to Mary, and believes that she is above God, and is better than God. Then of course we have an issue. However, if a Catholic understands and affirms that Mary isn't God, and isn't worthy of worship. Then we have no issue with the veneration of Mary.
@gusjeazer2 жыл бұрын
@@dominicewing8940 Mary worship has clear roots in the worship of the mother goddess, the fertility goddess of paganism. Aesteroth, Esther, Isis,... Easter (from the same goddesses feast) and Christmas come from the worship of this goddess, but were given a Christian twist. To pray to Mary is pagan, to venerate her, is venerating a person like you and me. Same for the saints. And especially the pope, which came from Roman traditions of worshipping the emperor as God. I am not saying that Catholics aren't Christian or will go to hell for this or anything like that. But protestant theology is in many ways better than Catholic. I think the original comment is correct, and I grew up in a more or less catholic community, there is a lot of good in the Catholic church. But also evil and drawbacks. Same for many protestant churches. A lot of them are cold and harsh to anyone not Christian or with a different world view. They can be quite overzealous and overly fixated on theology. On the other hand, they also have a LOT of good going for them. I agree with you on the child abuse, although the Catholic church as an organization is clearly failing their community, by lying about it and covering it up. That's not the Christian way of dealing with such a thing. Evil is to be exposed, not swept under the rug. The Catholic church as in the Vatican, the organization, has a lot of crimes on its record, and parts of it are in deep with the occult. Jesuits are connected intimately with secret societies, freemasonry and occultism. They have had a hand in so many world events and assassinations. After they were banned for a time, they went underground and tons of occult groups sprouted up, often led by Jesuits or with very Jesuit ideas. I firmly believe that the Vatican and pope of today are antichristian. Many Catholics I know start to see this too. They see how the pope is going increasingly woke, is increasingly corrupting Christianity. He is sitting in a building shaped like a snakes head, in front of a sculpture of 'Jesus' coming back in an atomic explosion. It's insanely demonic. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Anyway. I can't wait for Jesus to come back. The church of God will be one true church, and He will be our Lord. Thy kingdom come.

Josiah was the youngest king they had lost the torah. Someone found the scroll. They read the law .He tore his garments and proceeded to clean up their worship. They had to destroy the bronze serpent that moses made because people were burnings in scents to it. Be careful not to make a religion. Don't ad to or take away from what is written.

We can't deny that the symbol of the cross and crucifix as well as rituals and festivals does help people focus on those and away from worshipping God in spirit and Truth, Worship to God is only through giving life to saving and rescuing. Not to give your Existence, 1 Corinthians 3: 16, 17. Give your Life not meaning to give your Existence, without Existing cannot give life to serve God, to give your Life to God through imitating Jesus. Our Existence is sacred, the life we live is, ours to give. Love is not through self/ego. People from all religions confuse Life with Existence. Many from all religions would give their existence, choose death to prove their faith through the self/ego. But faith is not through self/ego. And most who do choose death to their existence for proving their faith, ( expression through self ) these would not give their Life to God, don't want to give up their life, or scared to loose their life of comfort and convenience, to serve God through Jesus, give money, time for saving and rescuing the sick, poor, hungry physically and spuritually. No disciple or apostle gave their existence to prove their faith. They all died through purpose of saving, not self expression. Peter is the key to understanding difference of Love through self, and Love through Jesus... " feed my lambs, shepherd my sheep feed my sheep". It's impossible to love God or Jesus through self.

I heard that we shouldn't use the crucifix because Jesus isn't dead and that the one on the cross isn't him. So we should use the plane cross, but idk if that's true witch is why I'm on this video

Beautiful explination and makes a lot of sense. I had never really thought super deeply about it. Both the Cross and Crucifix symbolize the sacrifice our Lord Jesus made for us to me. I wear a Cross that was given to me by my wife for Christmas several years ago. I wear it to remind me of the imeassureable gift Jesus gave us through his sacrifice. Sometimes I wear it on the inside of my cloths as clost to my heart as possible. And when I'm out and about I wear it on the outside of my cloths to advertize to all that I belong to God, that I am a Christian.

Then the glory of the God of Israel rose from above the cherubim, where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. And He called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side. 4“Go throughout the city of Jerusalem,” said the LORD, “and put a mark on the foreheads of the men sighing and groaning over all the abominations committed there.”

I am a retired minister. I have had both plane crosses and crucifixes hanging on my walls. I have worn around my neck both plain crosses and crucifixes. I do not worship the cross or the crucifix I wear them as a reminder to me of the great sacrifice that our lord Jesus made for us. I wear them as a reminder to me of the great suffering the Jesus went through for me a sinner in need of redemption in need of cleansing of my sins and in that great Act that Jesus did on the cross the dying for the sins of the whole world past present and into the future he did for me and it is a comfort for me to view the cross the crucifix knowing that my salvation was paid for by that great sacrifice.

I agree with you, as a physically blind person, I prefer both, the cross is what Jesus is going to, and the crucifix, because I could feel Jesus on it. The nails on his hands and feet, and the wound in his side, And a crown of thorns on his head.

I feel as though either is a graven image of that which was on earth and now should be in heaven. The bare cross being somewhat less as it was used as a symbol of the sun before Christianity

I don't use either. I'm just a Christian. If anything, I use a 1911A1 .45 Automatic pistol.
