displaying them on the small screens of the keypad perfectly demonstrated why they are this simplfied. The better looking more polished icons just lost all details on this size and especially that safary one got extremly hard to read. You can hate on the trend as much as you want but thats the difference between an artist and a designer, the artist chooses the enviornment and the audience for his art, the designer has to take them into account when creating.

@@kilor78 Very well said. I think app icons got unfairly dragged into the oversimplified war after brands like Pringles started using minimalist designs, when in reality, it makes sense for apps to have that style.

Kinda get what you mean, but the thing is.. you can still see it, you can still tell what it is, it doesn't matter if the detail is gone, cuz you can still see what it is, and you could say "at that point why not make it be low detail then".. which is better? Kinda takes me back to when the iPad was new. Nobody used it before, so the apps had to look ridiculously intuitive and therefore looked like real life objects. It was nice. Had a homey feel, before everything shifted to sharp edges, simplified icons, and flat colors. I wish they allowed you to select different aesthetics for the actual interface instead of just your wallpaper and stuff.
@davidsentanu78363 ай бұрын
However, some apps are not meant to be represented by the icon. Like in this instance, Safari has a compass logo. Using a realistic icon would make users think it's a compass app instead of a web browser. It's actually counter-intuituve.
@TricBrosStudios3 ай бұрын
@@davidsentanu7836 Well by design an app called Safari isn’t really giving internet vibes aside from the “search” concept. But then it would be a magnifying glass like everything else. The modern icon still represents it as a compass, so thats just a general flaw. Either way things like KZbin, Videos, Camera, even things that were an icon had this realism and depth to it that made it feel like you could touch it. And besides the Compass app used to look goated too.

@@generimposter yeah, ofc. For the viewer, the best thing would be no ads whatsoever. My point was this is a good ad model, since the creator can speak freely, which gives you a better understanding of what they actually think of the product, and also repetition makes it more likely for consumers to be drawn to it. Some huge advantages of simplified icons, which are often overlooked are: ability to have them as infinite scalable vectors, ability to easily animate foreground and background, ability to easily recolor (tinting), eligible on any resolution even super low ones (and your sponsors console demonstrates this perfectly), and if done right: easy to recognize. So I get some of the hate, some companies really go too lazy on their logos but there are a lot of advantages to simplified icons.
