Thanks for the video! I just did my final glue up today for this style board. I am so excited that you showed how to use the router sled to flatten the board. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get mine flat. I tried your method and it worked like a dream!! Thanks so much!!

I saw you made end grain mortar strips about halfway through the video, but did you make the tiny individual vertical mortar strips end grain as well?
@brandonthebuildertx Жыл бұрын
Yep, 100% end grain.
@toddstrother136 Жыл бұрын
@@brandonthebuildertx ok I was confused. Was the video somewhat out of order then? Because the other thin strips were already in place before you showed how to make the end grain strips. By the way, I’ve watched 6-7 tutorial videos on this brick pattern and yours is by far the most helpful of the bunch. I’m about to make my first board and was considering giving this pattern a shot.
@brandonthebuildertx Жыл бұрын
@@toddstrother136 the narrow strips are glued to the brick sections while they're all still "edge grain", then when you cut them it all turns 90° together to become end grain.

Do you have plans available for purchase on this? If not how thick is the wood that you originally start with?
@brandonthebuildertx2 жыл бұрын
I don't, though I have considered making some if that's something people would be interested in. I made these out of 6/4 lumber.
@matthewransom64692 жыл бұрын
@Brandon the Builder I would def buy it. Im a beginner wood worker. In it 3 months now. I want to make a few boards but not just three regular old board. I want to make one like this. One that sticks out. But being a beginner I have no idea of where to start as far as measurements go or what thickness lumber I need to start with. I got alot of info from your video tho. Enough to where I feel comfortable trying it lol. I just don't and didn't know measurements. Thank you very very much for the video and your response back

Nice job, I want to try building by myself. Can you please tell me what sort of Glue you use and what sawblade you have on your saw? Regards, james
@brandonthebuildertx5 жыл бұрын
I use Titebond 2. Some people say you have to use Titebond 3 because it's "waterproof" instead of just "water resistant", but TB2 is perfectly good for cutting boards. I use a Freud Premier Fusion 40 tooth combo blade, and a 24 tooth Freud Industrial glue line rip blade.

Thanks for the reply Brandon, i’ll see if I can locate some down here in New Zealand. I’ll keep you informed and send you a photograph of my attempt. Have a great Christmas to you and your family, james

You use pure food grade mineral oil. I bought mine from the local Walmart. I'll usually leave it in for an hour or two.
@benp27244 жыл бұрын
Great work. How many hours would you estimate it took to build this?

Thanks. Not counting time spent waiting on glue to dry, just a few hours, though I tend to work slower than I could.

Nice video, thanks! Two questions: 1) I’ve been told that raising the grain is really not necessary on end-grain boards because it really doesn’t raise much in that direction. Is this correct? 2) After you use the round over bit, do you sand the wood that was rounded over? If so, how? Thank you.
@brandonthebuildertx2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it raises it a huge amount, but I notice a difference. I lightly sand the edges after the router with some paper I just hold in my hand. Smooths any fuzzies without messing up the roundover.

If your an impatient person, and as you say “incredibly impatient”. You should not be a woodworker. That’s because wood will always test your patience.
