If only Jim Clark chooses this endurance race instead of Formula Two race in Hockenheimring, Germany he might be still with us to this day.

At 1:04 I'm holding my camera on the fence immediately above the left side of the 'o' in the shattered Dunlop sign. Unfortunately the pics got lost several lifetimes ago. The race had a nail biting finish with the JW tactics being spot on and Ickx' coolness under pressure in the final laps exemplary.

I was also there with my cine camera. I have film of the car crashing. I was filming at the Paddock Hill Bend and the car went up the hill straight into the Dunlop sign. If I remember correctly, on impact a huge amount of gas shot up from the rear of the car.

Years later,as the story goes:Clark was supposed to be at Brands,as well as Graham Hill.Yhey were in Germany to fulfill a tire contract.

I remember being on the fence on the exit of Southbank and when a Porsche spun the crowd would move over to see what the noise was. The Ford 3 litre prototype looked futuristic but was let down with unreliability I believe with the driveshaft doughnuts.

It was so sad that the by far greatest driver ever, JIM CLARK, started instead in this minor F2 race at Hockenheim...he should drove the new Ford 3 Liter by Alan Mann racing at Brands.
