BRANDS THAT COPY OTHER BRANDS. This video is my thoughts on brands taking original designs and making more affordable versions of it. There has been quite the conversation around companies making obvious replicates of very famous designs from designers such as Raf Simons, Chrome Hearts, Balenciaga, Fear of God and more. This has been something that has been around for ever though. I am not too sure why this conversation has just now been brought to light. Many actual Designers themselves as well as celebrities have taken obvious inspirations and designs from multiple designers. For example, the Supreme Box logo. This has been a graphic that has been taken and replicated numerous times. I think since streetwear and fashion has evolved over the years, we have progressed to more cut and sew designs starting to be replicated. This is not only a situation in fashion but in all branding across the boards. COMMENT BELOW your thoughts on this topic, and if you think its justifiable for brands to create affordable designer alternatives to streetwear brands.

Jadon Grundy I think high fashion is a world that’s creative and when people twist the narrative too just being expensive it offends people who work hard and people may not have the most but be confident in what you wear and be reasonable but don’t base status off what you wear be your own aesthetic. Ps. Love the videos and I think you inspire youth like me like a Ian Connor or luka sabbat but not comparing just appreciating you brodie

Prisdence M. That’s a really great take on it, especially that narrative of just calling things “too expensive “ instead of seeing the hard work and creativity behind a piece. Also thanks for supporting me bro, means a lot 🤧💯🙏🏾

I think it’s all good from any perspective as long as you are upfront and state your intentions behind it. Whether it’s the consumer, designer, or influencer. For example if you’re mnml with the chrome heart design rip put “inspired by chrome hearts” in the description. If you’re on ig rocking an alternative, tag it and don’t try to claim it’s the real thing and so on. Everyone should just be honest.

It’s also crazy because this is something that happens so often, even by Designers themselves. A lot of big name designers take direct inspo from smaller or other designers, and they hardly get any flack for it. Some brands will literally take some of the most simple things like “stars, smiley faces, a specific font, box logos, Cargo designs” etc.

I’m fine when a brand makes an alternative, like changing the piece up a bit. But what i don’t like are brands like mnml, where every piece is a straight up copy and their whole brand is based on copying another brands. They literally started out making fog copies, and then balenciaga, Rhude and now Rick,CH etc. That shit pisses me off, They are not even changing anything except quality.

The more I think of it, alternative or bootlegs are ok except you're trying to be deceitful with it like fake flexing... Some expensive stuff are ugly. When I started getting enough money to buy a few designer stuff, I bought a Kenzo reversible eagle coat on sale for $300 just because it was originally $900...I didn't have a car yet and was still taking the train to college freshman year 😂😂 I was dripping on the metro bus 😭 I wanted to be big flexer like others. That was a stupid decision because the Jacket low-key ugly... Just live your life and dress what you can afford... Every now and then I do spend on something big though but I'm more true to myself

if you can’t afford the original design you shouldn’t try to buy a cheaper copy. If the design isn’t changed/barely changed then that just makes it a fake. There’s nothing wrong with buying something that’s different but the same vibe. Those fake rick pants though are a no go in my opinion.

No cap bruh with fashion everybody gets inspiration from each other. I feel like if you’re wearing a brand and they purposely put a logo on it but it’s clearly a replica but they promo it like it’s authentic then that’s corny and cap but if it’s similar style but a completely different brand then it’s green light. Honestly most people only buy stuff because of the price and the designer and if you see two pieces of clothing that’s similar and you go with the more expensive item you’re not buying for style and smarts you’re just buying for clout and that’s a no go in my opinion.

I don't really know how I feel about brands copying.. bootleg has been cool for a couple years now..I do try to stay away from brands that copy too much... That's why I rarely buy stuff from Asos, h&m etc as I used to. Some bootlegs are cool... I got a brocade zipper shirt from Urban outfitters like year-and-a-half ago, I forgot what brand they copied but every time I wear it I get compliments... You just 've to balance the outfits...

I personally feel like you could take certain elements from other brands, but sometimes it just goes way too far imo. For example the jeans in your thumbnail from chrome hearts & mnml. I think it would’ve been cool if mnml took the wash element and added their own thing onto it. But the crosses were just a bit too much imo. I respect the art, as long as it’s not just a straight up copy of the piece of art. Btw I respect, that you’re opening up about this subject!

Bro this is exactly what other big names in fashion need to hear too. There is a difference between alternative and copying/profiting off others but at the same time what do people who can’t feasibly afford to spend 1000$ on a shirt but have the same appreciation for fashion do. It’s not a situation where “get ya bread up” or “then don’t play the game if you can’t afford it” like some people are less fortunate than others or have priorities but have the same amount of appreciation for dressing nice and design. Making fashion an exclusive rich people club is toxic but copying and profiting off others is just as toxic. Maybe it’s more of a question of bigger brands to start producing affordable products 🤷🏻‍♂️ I mean I get that you charge what you believe the your hard work is worth but idk there are many layers to the situation
@IChoseTheSneakerLife
@IChoseTheSneakerLife 4 жыл бұрын
Let’s be real too, one of the main reasons designers charge 1000$ for clothing is so they can live a luxurious life while you fashion purists/goons are walking 5 miles in your designer pants going home to a 25sq.ft. Apartment

I think the real question is, are people buying the cheaper alternatives because it's actually fire or because it looks like a designer piece. Here’s what it is. All the items we see that we want get hype up from celebrities because celebs are cool with the designer they get it for free while the price on those pieces are crazy high. Then here comes the nobodies *clowns* that buys the piece for the price and now they feel entitled to say this and that while you’re the dummy buying it for 2,000$ when it took 20$ or less to make AND the piece won’t matter in the next session or so anyways. Who wins after all? The designers and celebrities that have a cycled formula to make money off of us. Or a person who can get a similar pair for cheap not harming their pockets or anyone else, and also the companies that are getting copied from mml, they don’t care these people are well connected with the big dogs they will make their millions in the fashion industry REGARDLESS.

it’s not okay when a brand clearly rips off a style from another brand/designer and make it seem like its their own and don’t give any credit to the originator, hence why mnml is garbage. they dismiss the hate they get for their fake pieces by blocking people and trying to hide the facts from their consumers
@NHL-kv4bt
@NHL-kv4bt 4 жыл бұрын
there’s nothing wrong with going with cheaper alternatives. obviously not everyone is gonna be buying rick pants and helmut and SLP jeans. but when it’s literally just a blatant rip that’s when it becomes like okay they’re not even trying to give you an alternative it’s just a rip for a cheaper price. and mnml specifically is becoming so notorious for ripping high end designers, not by making things similar to the designer pieces, but literally just copy and pasting them and passing them as their own piece. off the top of my head i can think of 4 designers they’ve blatantly ripped, rick, kapital, margiela, and chrome hearts. once again nothing wrong with going for cheaper alternatives, but there just needs to be some creativity to it if you’re gonna make an alternative.

yeah having a alternative pieces is not a problem if you want to spend less its on you. but what i dont like about mnml for me they are basically a brand with no originality, all they do is make alternative pieces (not a problem for me) but they do it so much to the point they are starting to look like a bootleg of everything, no hate though but they need to make their own pieces without taking too much elements or ideas from another high fashion brands.

The thing is, I'm fine with alternatives. But MNML straight up copies a lot from Rick Owens and gets away with it. Dw bro this isn't a personal attack, just that I don't fw brands that straight up copy.

That “Rick Owens” and “ Chrome Heart jeans” made by MNML is just bullshit. They r not knock off. They r just fake. That kind of garment does not need any effort and design. There is a difference between alternatives and knock-off. When Represent started by making biker jeans, they did not make the jeans 100% like Balmain. It’s so fucking easy to use an existed garment as a reference and change design to make a new garment and MNML does not even to that. It’s such a shame fashion industry has brand like this.

Rick Owens is one of the few independent designers who still owns his own label so why would you want to support a company that is stealing from him. Just buy secondhand and if you can’t even afford that then maybe you shouldn’t participate.

Don’t take this the wrong way I fw your videos and style but by supporting brands like mnmls rip offs of Rick Owens Crome hearts eta. it’s not only disrespectful to the designer but it spreads the narrative that you have to wear designer bands or rip offs of the original to have style when there’s so many other options such as vintage or thrifted clothes that are way more affordable money really has nothing to do with style. how many rappers do you know that have all the money in the world but have no style what so ever. also what do you consider the deference between a cheaper alternative and a fake I’d say a cheaper alternative is a piece that has a similar cut tone or look while still having elements that are unique and not completely copying any specific design. what I’ve seen from brands like mnml recently is just complete knock offs of other pieces witch is why I’ve stopped buying there stuff but also it’s a sign of them being uncreative and instead of being known for making quality affordable clothes, now they’re known for making essentially fakes no different then fake sneakers

I feel like alternatives/knockoffs shouldn’t exist, if you cant afford the real thing, you shouldn’t have it. Sounds mad selfish but let the people that work for it, have it.

Don't care about alternatives, affordable brands are fine. However, mnml makes blatant rip offs with little to no second thought/design change."It doesn't hurt the big brands" is a bad take on it because it does affect them. There could be people saving up for a piece, finally got the bread for it, then bam, they find a rip off product for 10% of the price and it becomes a no brainer who to support now. Speaking from a business perspective, businesses need customers. Whether it's a mom and pop shop that sells higher end products or a large big name retailer with hundreds of brands, losing a customer is losing money. Losing money means not being able to stay in business. Not being able to stay in business means designers make no money from wholesale/retail. Designers making no money is no more designers, undesirable profession. All of this whilst the people ripping off the originality of the designers are still in business because they produce something of lesser quality with the same design. Eventually they'll have to design their own things though since there will be no designers left to rip off.

see i make actual cheaper alternatives to chrome heart jeans. i don't cheap out in any way and I focus on creating more sustainable clothing. i don't even just make chrome heart cheaper alternatives. not tryna shout myself out but like I get hella shit for making these jeans from chrome hearts stans and I don't understand how they don't see how much effort I put in and that I put in just as much effort as chrome hearts and I don't get it done in a sweat shop in china like mnml, jesus.
