I was in a group w my best friend and this girl and her dad. Our group was mixed together with another group at one point for shopping. One of the girls from the other group was like “let’s go to brandy Melville!” And we where all like “oh ok” and on our way there the girl who suggested it looked me dead in the eye and was like “oh you don’t have to come if u don’t want, cause the clothes there don’t seem like stuff you would wear, yknow” GIRL. I went anyway js cuz I can and me and the other girl in my group (not my bsf the other one) where the ONLY bigger girls there because literally every girl in both groups was an extra small. Then the worker kept staring at me and the other girl. And the girls dad went to the shop next door and she looked like she was going to be on the verge of tears. I was pissed at the girl who bodyshamed me. And I hated the store. The clothes where ugly and not inclusive at all.

@JANEYOOO3 ай бұрын
Yeah ofc there’s nothing wrong with that, what the creator failed to include is that there was huge controversy because brandy Melville allegedly only makes xs/s clothing is because the founders had sick ideas of pre pubescent girls and only wanted girls with petite bodies to work there. They allegedly had a place downstairs where plus sized and black/poc workers were working. The room was cramped and they weren’t allowed to work upstairs because they’d ‘destroy the brandy Melville image’ which is fucking disgusting (many past workers have said this). I’m not 100% sure if it’s been completely debunked yet but there’s so many allegations against brandy Melville it’s disturbing. The founders keep their identity’s well hidden so it’s hard to tell or trace.
@tonyatrait3 ай бұрын
there are plenty of xs-s size options in most stores, meanwhile it’s rare for a store to go past 2x. And if they do carry plus sizes, sometimes they don’t even put them in store, forcing plus sized consumers to get them online. The plus sized options that do exist, even in plus size specific stores like torrid, are usually like auntie style clothes that cover all parts of the body and rarely fit into today’s styles. Its cause ppl like the creators of brandy Melville don’t see fat ppl as humans and don’t wanna “waste resources” on making plus sized options, meanwhile the average size of Americans has only gone up. Fat ppl deserve quality options too.

@cosmicionicc51343 ай бұрын
@@tonyatraityeah except as someone who was an xs/s in America xs/s is not actually that small. It does not fit people who are very slim/petite. That’s size is still geared more towards mid sized just in the lower end of mid sized so it doesn’t actually end up fitting girls who are smaller than that. When I was smaller than average it was an absolute nightmare trying to find anything that fits. The commenter is right there should be stores that have true xs/s and small sizes for people that are smaller than average because most stores do not have clothes for you, just like they have plus sized stores because if your bigger than average most stores also don’t have clothes for you. Brands make clothes geared towards the middle because that’s where most people are so that gets the most sales. That being said I don’t support brandy and if there is a store that makes smaller clothes they should not be bullies abt it.

it makes no sense bc girls who are petite can’t have stores for their sizes, but plus sized people can. it’s really hard when you are petite to find clothes you can actually fit into like sometimes you are in between sizes and something is too long and fits loose or something is the perfect length but is crazy small edit: when i said that petite (or skinny/small) girls can’t have stores i was meaning they can’t have stores without being deemed as fatphobic because it happens a lot! but yes i agree that plus sized stores need better clothes!

Brandy doesn’t make petite sizes…petite in regards to fashion refers to height. Brandy’s pants are too long for me as most pants are. American eagle makes petite sizes because the inseam of the clothing is shorter. Just say brandy makes clothes for skinny people and it makes you happy that you can find sizes there. Also there are PLENTY of brands like brandy who center skinny women in their clothing and not plus sized women. Literally plenty.

It’s a brand’s right to choose and cater to their preferred demographic, so the xs/s size things isn’t that bad. I mean, there are brands that cater to plus sizes, so there shouldn’t be discrimination for the opposing side of the size chart. What gets me is how basic the clothing is. Sure, for a long ass time, I had to wear granny style clothes because no brands really made trendy plus sized clothing. But, I’d take the rhinestone top with the weird color patterns over a basic crop top. At least it has personality. The clothing looks rather plain, and cheap, you could get better stuff at Hollister or American Eagle. At least then you know the seams won’t pop after one go in the washing machine.

They may be code compliant (depending on the local regulation) if they have full sized exits and only undersized entrances. After all, emergency evacuations rules for things like fires generally focus on the ability of a place to evacuate not how easy it is for people to get in. That said, it would definitely pose a challenge for people like firefighters wanting to get into the building. On the other hand, in the US it wouldn't be accessibe to the disabled (e.g. wheelchair bound), which would be an expensive lawsuit. That said, from looking online it doesn't seem like they normally gatekeep the store through tiny doors (maybe that location had another entrance that was normal sized and not shown). Instead they gatekeep through just stocking small/slim sizes.

It’s where they put an emphasis on exclusivity, and promote it as some sort of superiority to be able to fit into their clothes. Not gonna lie but it’s probably also a teen store Edit: yes the store is for smaller woman mostly because skinny people don’t get the advantage to try on good clothes that they like because everyone buys them or don’t have them in their size maybe they don’t want fat people to shop their but it’s not my business so idrc

My sister (who has an eating disorder) took me to shop there. The employees would openly say things about peoples weight in the changing areas and how they would look cuter if they lost 10 pounds. I was 14 and it started me on my own eating disorder. I was only 120 pounds.

bigger people have stores which are only for bigger people which is fine! So there should be a store only towards skinny people. I find it hard to find my size in stores since it's small/average and often sold out. Just don't shop there if it bothers you tbh

@@mystery._.m34t You missed the point. If you can’t fit through the door you’re not someone they want as a customer. They don’t need to care if you think they’re “hostile”. At 6’3” and 230# (and a guy) I also might not fit through that door. This is OK because I’m not who they want as a customer either. If you really want to get in there to buy clothes that won’t fit you, maybe consider modifying your caloric intake and some exercise until you can walk through that door and wear those clothes?

@@zugmeister314 my whole point is that I don’t wanna go there at all, and I don’t see why anyone would, weather I can fit through a fire hazard door and squeeze myself into tiny ass clothes with boring generic pattens or not. Companies are meant to appeal to potential consumers. The clothes aren’t even good anyway, I could get the same shit at Walmart in a size I’m actually comfortable in

none of your logic makes sense. not every store carries sizes small enough to fit certain people- so they should be allowed their own store that caters to them just like plus size people have stores catered to them because the plus size sections are usually shit. theres nothing wrong with a store catering to a demographic. stop being mad about nothing

"fat ppl" bro i went there at 130 pounds and was told they dont have anything in my size. My friend weighed a lil under 99 pounds and the girls at the counter gave her a discount cuz she looked like a model. The clothes are cute so its really frustrating that their version of "fat" is the healthest weight according to doctors and dietitians.
