These cats are family. Random abstract was the first jazz CD I got 35 years ago. Always liked his approach better than Wynton’s, not that it matters. Would be fun to go back in time and revisit some of the shows, miss the time.

Kenny's playing is miracle to hear. He's the greatest pianist since Frederick Chopin. If listen carefully to the dialogue between his left at right hands you will hear that he achieved the coordinative independence, the counterpoint, the beauty, the melodic and harmonic intelligence achieved by Bach, Beetoven, and Chopin. His sound, amazingly, covers the entire scope of classical music and jazz. Make no mistake about it, this sound is direct from the void.

Great band. Jeff Tain Watts is one of the best drummers in jazz today. He propels everyone to higher levels especially when they have talent like these gentlemen here.

This particular piece, Aycrigg on tenorfreak, is among the best music I have heard and I have been listening to jazz since 1948, serious! The musicianship is truly amazing. Branford has a happy-go-lucky attitude that hides a deep knowledge and a high level of creativity. And Kenny Kirkland!! I lack words. Bob Hurst has a drive which coupled with Tain makes the swing almost unbearable. Thank you, God. Jan Dahlstedt

+Jan Dahlstedt - couldnt agree more - whenever I come back to this particular recording of this tune, the heavy oceanic depth of swing, the melodious beauty of the soloing, the joyous cohesiveness of the whole, it all washes through my soul and enriches it like crystal clear spring water soaks through a sponge

The tune is "Aycrigg" by Bob Hurst--it's from Bob's quartet album on Columbia (same band plus Marcus Belgrave on trumpet).

haha wut? that's an interesting comment by Feather. I'm not sure if I can agree with that. They are amazing at NY swing, (the best, really) but I never really liked their approach to a lot of other things. There isn't a greatest trio in jazz I guess, and it's all taste.
