This AMAZING tool saves time, frustration, and beats a hammer any day of the week!!
The Park Tool HHP-3 is a home bearing cup press that can also be used for pressing in BMX bottom bracket bearings. This is so much easier and faster than a hammer, not to mention safer for your bike!
Any life long bmx or bicycle rider who plans to build their own bikes can find use in one of these and it will literally last a lifetime!!
Shout out to Park Tool!!!!

Threaded rod, fat washers and nut are available at any hardware store at a fraction of the cost. The park tool stuff all matches though.

If a person can’t buy this tool, go to your local hardware store and buy a fine thread bolt (and corresponding nut) in a 9/16 or 5/8 diameter. Even 1/2” can work. Length should be 4-1/2” but a 4” or 5” should work too. Get some washers that are just slightly larger diameter than the bearings. Might need various size washers to stair step and make work. With a couple of wrenches you will have a tool that’s similar and will work. I’ve used this setup to install dozens of BB in a smooth controlled fashion. The main issue is to press on the outer rim edge of the bearing and not Just the center portion to avoid stressing the bearings and race. For removal I bought a brass “drift” rod about 12” in length. Diameter is 1/2” I believe. Once cranks are removed the rod goes in and to the other side bearing to hit with a plastic mallet. Carefully tap the top then bottom. Have to hold the drift at an angle each time. It’ll work the bearing body out easily. But be warned the bearing can pop out and fly. And the bearing could be damaged this way. I’ve not damaged any but if I remove bearings then I’m only installing new back in. No used bearings that I hammered out. I have slide hammers etc but this all really works well. We

When I bought my Demolition Rig crankset their was an option to buy a tool for installing the crankarms. I also just used it to pull the bearings in place as well. put the spindle on one arm. one bearing on the spindle and slid that into the bb shell. put the other bearing on the other side along with the crank arm and then used the tool to install that arm on the spindle and seat the bearings. I think the tool was under ten bucks?

Tried to use the spacer with this tool and despite pushing in the American bottom bracket adapter cups with bearings inside as straight as I possibly could. Didn’t realize until it was too late and the bearings on each side were pushed in and the spacer wedged downward all crooked and now I have a exspensive bike frame with 2 stuck bearings in it that I have no idea if I’ll be able to remove. This tool literally ruined my bike. The spacer is so wedged and it’s probably unreliable considering I can’t get the punch on the bottom side of the bearing cover at all. I might have to take an angle grinder to these American bottom bracket cups now…. I should’ve never used the spacer…. For anyone thinking about using that spacer with this tool, don’t, just use the bearings…Great tip dude 😂

There was one thing done wrong in the video: at 2:53 the white washer should not go before the big spacer. If you do it like this, you will bend that washer. The white washer is supposed to go after the big spacer, that is the white washer should be next to the handle that tightens.

I find it extremely easy to install a bb with just a hammer. Getting them out is much more difficult imo. I got the rc shoes and Im still breaking them in. Ill let you know how I feel about them once I have ridden in them more than a couple times.

2:24 -- you want to press the drive side in 100% first, then add the tube and non-drive bearing and only press the non-drive bearing into the cup until you have resistance in the spacer tube -- if you want it to be flush and the tube is too long, get your file and shorten the spacer tube.

Dude I agree. Using a hammer and a block of wood is so stupid; it risks both damaging the bearing and the frame if you're even slightly off angle. Mixing cheap with mechanical work never pays off. I think BMX gets away with it because the frames are chromoly; aluminum will dent and god forbid you try that on a carbon bike.
@Brant_Moore

Makes you wonder what kinda damage we actually do but never notice because of how fast we get used to things. I mean, how often do you get on someone else’s bike and feel a giant difference in the wobble of the cranks/pedals? Haha

If it doesnt just come out, I would just buy bearings by themselves. They're less than $10 each and it would be more worth the money than the time it could take to get them out if they are being stubborn.
