What a charming video! My father was a keen gardener, and I remember one place we lived where a male robin used to hang around when he was digging and turning over the soil in wintertime. The robin would snatch up any earthworms uncovered. But although he'd perch on tools or wheelbarrow, he never fed from Dad's hand. But then Dad wasn't picking up earthworms as offerings!

Thanks for your comment Elaine. I must say I've never been able to get the robins to feed from my hand in our garden either - just at our local nature reserve. Also, they will only land on my hand if I'm on my own and there's no dogs about! This makes these times very precious and you do feel they become your intimate little friend for that moment, especially the way the grab your finger as they hold on with their little spindly claws! Truly a lovely experience.

Just back from feeding him again. He flew at my hand even before I'd got food on it and stayed on my hand longer than ever - in fact so long he even pooped! Fortunately missed my little finger. Such an amazing little flying machine - he weighs nothing and is able to convert dried meal worm into aviation fuel. Only God can do this.
