@nooneofconsequence1251 Not going to argue the actuality, I think we agree here. One thing I also keep coming back to when I think about Braveheart: I know personally a couple of people who got interested in history because of this movie. Even though it has so much muck, it still served a good purpose for this reason.

I understand the scots when they criticize this film about historical innacuracies. But I must admit that Braveheart, for me, a little boy from eastern Europe in the 1990s, was the piece of art that introduced me to Scotland and its people. The history of my people is similar to that of the scottish people. Especially when it comes to an endless fight against a huge empire. When I grew up, I read the true story of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. Thanks to this film I always dreamed of visiting Scotland and thanks to this film, I discovered Limmy, who made me want to visit Glasgow. A dream that will come true 30 years later, at the end of December, this year.

The main issue with the historical inaccuracies, is the portrayal of The Bruce as an antagonist. He is a hero of the Scots, and would've been 12 or 13 at the time of Wallace's death. Much of the rest can be overlooked as artistic license, but anyone could've taken the antagonist role. There was no need to demonize a hero.
@NekitGallus
@NekitGallus 19 күн бұрын
@@bobprivate8575 Yes, I agree with you on this point. But this is Hollywood. You just have to know how to detach yourself from the superficial romanticism created by the scriptwriters. To do this, you must not stop at the film. You have to be interested in historical documents. Not everyone does it, but when the story touches you, generally you try to find out more or you don't want to stop there. You want to continue. I was very confused at first, but rather happy later, when I discovered the true story of these two characters.

I love the handfasting scene when they get married. It’s an old Scottish tradition that my husband and I performed at our wedding. The tartan used was my husband’s clan tartan and represented our commitment to each other. And we had a good dram of whiskey from the quaich of course!😂Scotsmen generally don’t wear anything under their kilts, also tradition. William Wallace was a hero to Scotland and fought for our freedom.

Great review mate got a wee bit emotional myself along with ye! I am Scottish and I love this film! Yes much has been said about the Historical Inaccuracies which are plenty! However, the real story is perhaps even more amazing!! I think for all of the historical inaccuracies the film captures the very essence of who Wallace was, his struggle and what he meant and still means to the people of Scotland and beyond! That what makes it such a great movie!

Forget what any critics say. Braveheart is a timeless and epic Medieval war film. It might be the best movie of its kind. William Wallace's speech to the Scots at Stirling is possibly the best, most inspiring wartime speech ever put on film. Every performance is fantastic. The soundtrack is one of the best, most heart-wrenching scores ever composed for a motion picture. Second only to Titanic. The art direction and cinematography is stunning

This movie is easily in my top 10 movies ever made. While not historically accurate, this movie still amazing. There are so many great line and moments in this movie, but I believe that the best line uttered in this movie (and I didn't see it in your reaction, but maybe I missed it), is when Robert the Bruce tells his father, "My hate...will die...with you." You cannot get angry at Robert the Bruce, as historically, he is the person that history recognizes as having led Scotland to its freedom. Back then, there was loyalty to the elders, and while his dad was still alive, he felt compelled to do his bidding, even if he know it was wrong. What he did in the end is what really matters, even if he stumbled along the way. Men with the conviction of William Wallace (as portrayed in this movie) are extremely rare, and most nobles and wealthy people back then did everything based on greed, and loyalties changed with the wind. I truly love this movie. Thank you for your reaction.

The big battle scenes were actually shot in Ireland because there are wide open, flat plains in the middle of the country that were ideal for those scenes. The extras for the battles were volunteers from the Irish army, with regular army on one side and army reserves on the other, and the real life rivalry between them resulted in some realistic aggression and some real injuries on set.

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Yes, The timeline isn't right a Lot historical inaccuracies, unfortunately a lot of films based off of real life are highly inaccurate but it's still a great movie. Really wished I could have seen this on the big screen.

As far as I know dark Stephen from Ireland was a warrior prince and had to go excile from Ireland. So the Ireland really was His Ireland. He saved Wallace several times and was his close friend and a bodyguard.

As historically inaccurate as it is braveheart still tells a generally accurate story of the kind of things the scots had to go through at the hands of the english. After nearly a thousand years people tend to forget that it was a difficult time to be alive, what things were like between the scots and english, and that real people went through it and should be remembered for standing up to protect their home. Even a historically inaccurate film like this helps keep the memories of those people alive and what they did far better than old historical records that most people have never read and know little about. Especially for the common peasant or soldier from the time that has otherwise been lost to history

"Braveheart" is a good example of a film being a great historical epic despite its lack of historical accuracy. The storytelling and acting trumps whatever historical flaws there are.

They absolutely DO NOT make movies even approaching this level of quality anymore these days. The music, the acting (not to mention child acting), the depth of meaning and realism, the cinematography. All top tier. Braveheart is an immortal classic of a film.

God bless you J... This is the most epic movie of fighting for Scotland's freedom...some will tell you it's not historically accurate but for us it's close enough... A tale of love..Country..and government vs people..we've been seeing it throughout history and even today...I agree with you on the traitorous Robert the Bruce..for my part he should have been on the short list William was taking out...aaahh but he wasn't and did become King..that is historically correct... Thank you for watching this awesome film..as a Native American/Scottish old woman..it resonates deep with me... For your future consideration...(Blank PLEASE 🙏) 💥...Rob Roy...Liam Neeson...1995 💥...Four Brothers...Mark Wahlberg..Sofia Vergara..Tyrese Gibson..Terrence Howard...2005 🌿🌿🌿

A great movie. Even though historically wrong about so many points. But it's an epic adventure. Cast, scenery and the score. It's a fantastic movie. Of course Robert The Bruce was the actual Scottish hero in history. Dunfermline Abbey is well worth a visit when in Scotland, where his bones are buried. Also the Wallace Monument. You can see Wallace's massive sword on display and many other artifacts. And wonderful views from top. "Robert The Bruce" is also worth a watch. A spinoff/sequel. The same actor portraying him (Angus Macfadyen). Not as big of a production, but a nice extra.

Being Scottish i love the movie Braveheart it is historically inaccurate a lot of the time but it’s a great movie to watch and makes me very proud to be Scottish. The real Braveheart nickname goes to Robert The Bruce also in this film. William Wallace was executed he was hung by the neck up, drawn meaning his limbs were stretched till they came out the sockets he was then cut open while still alive and had his insides pulled outside his body then beheaded. His body was cut into pieces and sent to the four corners of the UK. One of the places in Scotland that received a body part built The Wallace Monument in Stirling in memory of the real William Wallace high protector of Scotland. Wallace’s sword is stored on display in it so you can see it as you can actually get into the Wallace Monument learn the history etc. It’s a great place for tourists to visit. I’ve been many times. Thanks for reacting to this film and although i’m late to the posting of this video i still look forward to your reaction. Take care 😘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

In actual history, the timelines of William Wallace and Isabella of France don't match. She would have been too young. In the end, however, she ended up as being known as the She-Wolf of France. She got annoyed with the situation with her husband and went back to France, where she got involved with a nobleman there. They returned and invaded England, taking her husband off the throne and putting her son on. She and her new guy ruled the country until the son grew up. They had her former husband locked up for years, and there is a legend that he was killed via red hot poker up his rear end to avoid any injuries to give away that he was murdered. Savage

@@VictorLugosi Yeah, but Wallace died in 1305. Her marriage didn't happen until 1308. She would have still been in France. Also, even though 13 was an age when marriage could happen, it was more common around 15 or 16. Many (but definitely not all) marriages before age 15 would have a clause that consummation wouldn't occur until 15. The bride would come live with the groom's family, but the couple would sleep separately until the agreed upon age.
