This game holds a special place for me purely because of the effect its success had with Square Enix. The game is a very unapologetic homage to old school final fantasy, especially FFV with it's crystal-focused storyline and job system. It performed far better (specifically in the west) than Square ever thought it would which resulted in them saying something like "oh, people still like classic style turnbased combat JRPGs?" to which the majority of the FF fanbase all screamed in frustration "Nobody EVER said we didn't like it anymore!" so yeah, this is the game that did its job good enough that it at least somewhat disabused Square of the notion that the world had somehow outgrown turnbased RPGs. Game's great by the way. Good story, fun characters, the music has this wonderfully bombastic pace to it and the combat is varied enough with the jobs that it does what I really love in an RPG where if you know what your doing you can utterly break the game over your knee with some ridiculous character builds. The one thing this game does wrong is it messes up its pacing at the last minute for just long enough that it's a fairly common story to hear people ended up dropping the game right before it breaks out of that slow part of the story.
@rezahydra2 жыл бұрын
Same story here. I always found 5 and 6 to be the best ones, and my first ever was Asano’s own remake of 3 on the DS. I had nearly given up on Square and FF when I found Bravely after trying Crystal Chronicles on Wii. This game, and now with BD2 the series, has proven to me that old-school FF can be outdone at its own game. Why 2’s story certainly leaves some to be desired, leaning more into a character focus, the gameplay of it and Default 1 are 10/10.
@lol099922 күн бұрын
I thought I was mostly done with turn based combat, played a lot of JRPGs and didn't think you could make them that interesting anymore. My perspective has completely changed after playing Bravely Default, the job system is amazing and the brave and default system creates this very dynamic combat.

I would highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys turn-based JRPGs, as well as VGM enthusiasts in general. So much of the gameplay is about the music itself, almost as if it's a character in the game in its own right

@LordlyWeeb2 жыл бұрын
@@leakypeach6250 People make that part of the game sound so bad though. Personally, it's my favorite part. You get to do cool optional bossfights that let you learn more about the boss characters. Totally agree, you can make that section of the game everyone complains about a really quick process if you want to. There's little rewards and new bits of character interaction if you take your time, but if you get tired of it the whole affair doesn't take much longer than an hour to get through.

YEAAAAAAAAHHHH I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS TRACK!!! Thank you!!!! If you have the time, please check out the live concert as well! This track iirc was performed with vocals - Revo, the composer, was the vocalist for it. They performed it live twice, once vocalized in 2012 (the original concert where they performed Serpent Eating the Horizon live, the one you watched last time) and one instrumental version during the Attack on Titan themed concert in 2017. Revo wrote opening tracks for that anime from 2013 to 2018, and that's why Bravely music was performed during that concert. In fact Revo had 2 bands in name, one is Sound Horizon where he made songs telling stories he created, and one is Linked Horizon which he uses in collaborative projects such as Bravely Default OST, anime OST and such. The actual members are usually the same, only differ in vocalists lol If you want the instrumental version of this track during the 2017 concert it can be found here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mnnOqIyHlq6ag5o The vocalized version is here, at 39:25 in a 2-hour concert video just in case my link doesn't work properly kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHXVoWOhYpZkoq8 Megadeth ex-member Marty Friedman also performed in the 2012 concert! I love this game and its soundtrack. It's a modern take on turn based JRPGs and has a bunch of great modern QoL changes that are a breath of fresh air. Prior to this Square-Enix decided that turn based RPGs were dead so they largely abandoned them, but they decided to fund a little game called Bravely Default. It sold like gangbusters and became so profitable that the company issued a public apology for prematurely declaring turn based games dead haha. They've funded more of them since then which is great! Also love the Street Fighter EX: Plus Alpha track! I think it's Guile's stage, something Sunset? I really adored that game as a kid
