Braving Storm Dennis In A Fiat 500 Rockstar! POV Review

Hello guys, and welcome back to Car Obsession. Sadly, things didn't go to plan whilst I had this car, thanks to Storm Dennis, which has been causing chaos across the UK recently. The storm made filming very tricky, so I had to think on my feet so I could still produce a video with the Fiat 500 Rockstar that had been loaned to me.
So I thought I'd try something I've not done before; a POV review. I'll be honest, I have mixed feelings about POV reviews because on the one hand I think they're quite cool, but on the other hand, I sorta view the opinion that they're a bit lazy and they're kind of an easy way out, if you catch my drift.
That aside, the car in this video is the new Fiat 500 Rockstar, which is towards the top of the range, and starts from £15,775. It boasts features such as 16" alloys, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, 7" touchscreen, 7" TFT digital display, DAB radio, Bluetooth, smartphone connectivity, navigation and air conditioning.
The car you see in this video is over £17,000, though, as it features the 0.9 litre TwinAir engine (the one to have if you ask me) as well as climate control and eye-catching Portofino Green paint, which has a matte finish.
Speaking of the TwinAir engine, it's a turbocharged two cylinder petrol which offers 85hp along with 145Nm of torque (107 lb ft), which pushes its power to the front wheels via 5-speed manual gearbox. 62mph is dealt with in 11 seconds, and the top speed is 106mph.
In regard to economy and emissions, on a combined run, Fiat states that this engine will offer up to 50.4mpg, with CO2 emissions of 106/km.

My niece has a 1.2 500 lounge, she is a very petite young lady and loves her car. But depression is horrendous, something new buyers might like to take into account. Your review was excellent and on point, and as much power as harnessed children might be a new benchmark of power description🙂

I am from saudi Arabia is located at middle east The car is cute, beautiful interior design, but as you said I (too expensive) Your statement ( too expensive ) change my mind. I will find other car .thanks for advice.

The 1.2 is great when combined with the dualogic transmission. Fiat stoped fitting the dualogic to the 0.9 twinair sadly. But the 1.2 is more than capable of surviving in the city and motorway speeds. I have a 1.2 rockstar dualogic and it’s sport body kit is basically a sport but with digital dash.

POV reviews, in my opinion, are where a reviewer's skills really shine. No cinematography to make things look fancier than other reviews, and it's obvious to see when a video's been excessively cut or edited. One needs to get his point across as well as possible, avoid messing things up and keep the viewer engaged. You've ticked all three boxes, which is pretty good for your first POV review. I'd like to see more of them. I do agree that non-POV reviews are more cinematic, aesthetically pleasing, creative and harder to make. However, I always get the feeling that I can easily go to any manufacturer's official website if all I want to see is nicely taken shots of a car alone. As a small side note, I wonder if you can stabilize your footage a bit more. I've noticed that there's a lot of shakiness in the camera that I don't see on other POV videos.

Hello mate, thanks for the positive comments, and also for giving me a different perspective on POV reviews. In regard to the shakiness, my GoPro does have stabilisation so I think that's just where I'm moving my head too much to be honest, I gesticulate quite a bit when I'm talking, so that's probably why 🤣

@@CarObsession You're welcome. Yeah, that might be the problem. A bit of testing should do the trick. Still, not bad at all for your first POV review. I tried jerry rigging my phone to my face to record a POV of my own, and the footage had a 15 degree angle to one side. Good stuff.

I'm considering buying one of these. I currently own a Ford Ka 2015 Titanium, it's a smashing wee car for an old guy like me. However, I cannot fit a towbar to it (it's not rated to tow). I want to get a small Halfords trailer to take my garden waste to the council dump and the Fiat 500 is rated to tow. With the trailer I could also have a convenient place for my camping gear. What is your thoughts please?

I've just checked it's braked towing capacity. Apparently it's 800kg braked and 400kg unbraked for towing.

Hi there, thanks for watching. It's fine, so long as the car isn't fully laden, I think it would feel a bit gutless if the car is full of passengers and luggage To be fair, though, the 500 wasn't built with lots of motorway driving in mind.
