call it the heliplane. so is the pitch of blades changing direction or the electric motor reversing direction ? that front motor axis varying is like 4wheel steering for plane, makes easy turning mid air stall-- nice. like your gonna tell us. those guys and there electric batteries and motors. brings new meaning to parking the plane. just back in over there. nice flying.
@Bravo3035 жыл бұрын
Heliplane, I like it .. And yep you got it the pitch of the blades is being reversed not the rotation of the whole motor.. To Be Honest i dont think a motor could take the stress of reversing direction as repeatedly as this pilot demands And Yes also the whole blade assembly also tilts left and right for extremely effective movement control at very low speeds

My question is, like I said, is there a full size aircraft with the vectored prop?
@Bravo3035 жыл бұрын
I dont think there is a Full size variant with any kind of thrust vectoring prop, Honestly I dont think you could replicate this technology onto the full size until after the full size goes electric like this model did.. The engine vibrations would tear the variable mountings to pieces.. But theoretically possible
@stevez64995 жыл бұрын
None that I am aware of. I started scale flying in 1978. Finished in Gulfstreams and Global Express’s. Yes props can reverse pitch and even taxi backwards, I’ve done that , just don’t step on the brakes to stop or you will be on your tail. But vectoring thrust is out there for jets but not props as far as I know. Pretty impressive however.

The model reminds me of the custom made STOL aircraft named, "Draco." I invite all to look up, "Draco STOL airplane." You will not be disappointed. Draco has a reversible propeller and can reverse into a hanger on its own. With a reversing propeller, Draco can make extrmemely short landings. Draco has long travel, heavy duty, suspension, large off road tyres, and much more! The builder of Draco is very proud of his creation and loves showing Draco to all, on video. Draco is even red with black patterns on the wings as well.
@MrFg19805 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the aircraft you are referring to was totaled in an accident recently. The occupants, including Mike Patey, the pilot/owner of Draco were luckily unhurt. As the aircraft was attempting to take off in what were severe left crosswinds, a very strong gust picked up his left wing and blew the aircraft into groundloop to the right. That sad video can be found as well. Maybe it could be salvaged, but it was folded up pretty good.
@diGritz15 жыл бұрын
Not anymore...... About a month ago Draco did a swan dive at take off. Patey made it out without any real harm but Draco was totaled. Though a few days ago he did post a vid saying Draco would return.
@indridcold84335 жыл бұрын
@@diGritz1 What? I was not aware of this! I am a great admirer of Draco and Mike Patey's engineering, daring, and skills. Was there a video of Draco's demise? I am glad Mike was unharmed. This is very, very, bad news indeed. But you mentioned Draco will fly again. Maybe it was not so bad. I am looking to see if I find a video.
@indridcold84335 жыл бұрын
@@diGritz1 I found the video with great ease. Mike Patey hid absolutely nothing about Draco's destruction being his fault. He said exactly what he did wrong, what he should have done, and how he can not forgive himself. It also appears his beautiful wife was on board also because she broke a nail. Draco looked devasted. I am going to look around to see if there is any progress, or plans, to revive Draco. On the positive side, Draco's wreckage is more than what he started with with the original build. Perhaps some parts can be salvaged. I had no idea Draco crashed from a hard crosswind.

So my question is, if you went with a circular arc or double wedge airfoil, what's stopping the plane from flying in either direction? Edited for spelling
@Bravo303 Жыл бұрын
My guess is that it is theorectically possible but you would need to design the double wing in such a way that it would have movable control surfaces at each edge of the wings and elevators, otherwise once the plane reach any kind of speed in reverse flight the classic control surfaces now facing the wrong way will either have no effect or worse the inputs will be reversed

He reversing the esc, but is that possible becuase the motor turns with the ruder, I'm just confused becuase it seems like it would be extremely aerodynamically unstable doing that
@mickmuzzmkmz16285 жыл бұрын
It uses variable pitch on the propeller blades to give reverse thrust. Some full size planes have this, although it's not used to do aerobatics but to slow down quicker on landings, therefore reducing the roll out length significantly. Mike Patey's (turboprop) Wilga Draco (in lots of KZbin vids) uses this for short bush landings.
@Bravo3035 жыл бұрын
No he isnt reversing the esc, this model aircraft has been fitted with a set of blades typically found on an RC Helicopter so the blades themselves reverse in pitch while the motor continues to spin in the same direction

Thanks for watching! Who needs to fly forwards when you can fly backwards like a boss? 😎

Variable Pitch Propeller

Good grief! As if I didn't have enough on my plate trying to fly basic 3-D manoeuvres! A terrific display; I'd be interested to know how the Tx is set up. Is the prop hub articulation programmed and blended into one of the main stick controls (as with exponential/rates), or is it on an entirely separate auxiliary switch? Oh, and I love the ground performance. That reverse-pitch business reminded me of a Pilatus Porter pilot showing off; and the ultra-frisky rudder response made the plane look like an excited puppy with a serious case of waggy-tail fever! :-)
@Bravo3035 жыл бұрын
Wow what an awesome comment thank you The TX setup is a little simpler than you think, The prop articulation is mixed with the rudder stick and the mix can be disabled using a switch on the TX so he can fly with rudder only inputs during take off and landing The ground performance at the end completely took me by surprise after he landed I knew the model had reverse thrust but I never expected him to use it on the ground after landing We are uploading new videos daily if you want to subscribe for more RC videos

That was very impressive. Now I'm wondering how long before stunt pilots build full scale stunt planes and fly like this. (Full scale electric planes are a thing, so it's more a matter of power to weight and flight time required to perfect the technique)

A few other people commenting have though about a full sized adaptation of this technology and alot of people want to see it, but the materials may not exist that can take the stress of a aviation engine on variable geometry mounts

@@Bravo303 i fly rc, but i also used to be an aircraft mechanic and i got to go for rides in almost every plane i fixed. I pulled 5 g's in a 67' fuga supermajester once and when we landed the pilot couldnt see the nose gear indicator light. This was on a small town runway, in a fighter jet, the end of the runway was just hauling ass towars us and he didnt wanna put it down lol.... Ive seen some alarming in first person before lol. This flying would be mind blowing

@Bravo303 Жыл бұрын
Haha, thanks for watching my video and leaving a comment! You're right, that Delro Raven with that prop mod is a real pro at parallel parking - maybe it should teach some of us humans a thing or two about maneuvering in tight spaces! But in all seriousness, it's amazing to see the incredible skills of RC pilots like this, and pull off all sorts of impressive stunts. Thanks again for your support and keep an eye out for more crazy RC plane antics to come!
