Disconnected distributor for replacement and cranked the engine to make top dead center. Reinstalled distributor and now engine will crank but never starts. No codes other than Code 12. Coolant sensor and circuit are good. Why cant I get it to start?

I've been watching your videos on youtube, you have some GREAT info on your channel. Back to my temp sensor to ecm, after watching your channel and purchasing a shop manual online, i believe the shop didn't "train" the sensor to the ecm. If i was to drive the vehicle at running temp, over 40mph now, will that correct the issue? I'm in process of attempting to locate a shop, maybe the GM dealer, who will look at it and get my car running good again. Also, if you're not a member of the facebook page "84Corvette Crossfire Owners & Restorers Association", please consider requesting to join, i've been telling other guys on the page about your youtube channel and think you could help others and maybe some on the page could help you with your 84C4. Thanks again........Terry

@HorseshoeBeach 4 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
Terry, I don't know if driving the car up to operating temp at 40 MPH will solve your issue or not. What I was saying, The ECM: FSM 6E2-5 ECM Learning Ability, DATA is **compromised** even if the battery is disconnected. If any of the DATA sensors that feed directly into the ECM are changed or adjusted the ECM will use the old data it has stored until it re-learns the new data, which is learned through driving the car as outlined in 6E2-5 in the FSM. **I never found a mechanic in 5 years that was interested in working on the Crossfire, I even took it to the local GM dealership...I was told to join one of the Crossfire Forums...today's mechanics just DO NOT have the experience to work on these old cars....the Diagnostic Tools don't even connect up to these old cars. They politely refused to get involved. Therefore I had to go it alone. Started taking things apart one piece at a time. LOCAL Mechanics....basically said they have working customers that need their cars to GO TO WORK and said I would have to wait until they had some SPARE time. I don' have a facebook account but I appreciate your sharing any info you find helpful. Again though, I'm not a mechanic...just another Crossfire owner trying to find my way through working on these old cars. Which I enjoy immensely. **Let me know if I can help with anything...more than happy to share.**

@@HorseshoeBeach I have 1 more question, from what you've said, it sounds possible that i simply need to drive the car to "train" the ECM to teach the sensor and ECM to communicate, so should i disconnect the battery and start over? I've found a "speed shop" that works on performance cars, including Vettes, but he has said that the "crossfire" is a strange bird, so I think he is hesitate to work on it, but is willing to attempt to correct the issue. The car starts fine, I just haven't driven it since the issue last occurred, it was a great running car, just looking thru the service manual i've picked up on a few things. You've been extremely helpful and i've told others about you and your youtube channel. With your permission, i will share your videos on the facebook page for the other 84C4 guys. I hope you still have your 84, haven't seen any "new" videos as most appear to be 1+ years old. But thanks again, and let me know if you thing i should disconnect the battery and start fresh? Terry
@HorseshoeBeach
@HorseshoeBeach 4 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
I still have the 1984, my first Corvette, it will never be sold....just been really busy. The Speed Shop is right about the Crossfire..it is a very strange bird for sure. You can share on facebook if you want to, I'm **NOT** a mechanic, I just went through every system, and I mean** every** system and started repairing things running all the FSM test, filmed it, then shared it on this channel. Hope it helps someone else. Again, not sure if driving the car to operating temp and 40 mph will solve your issue, just saying, that is part of the process after installing a data sensor.....worth a try anyway. If you disconnect the battery the car will use the data stored in the PROM....until it sees and stores any NEW data.

@@HorseshoeBeach Thanks for the reply. I drove it today, but didn't disconnect battery, drives ok until temp gets over 210, then runs very rough, being a cool day today, while driving the engine temp only made it to 190, so it runs good, but once i pulled into the garage and left it running so temp would go up, once in hit 210 it runs rough and stopped, and then of course will not start, until fuel drys up, you can smell fuel bad when it stops. I'm going to take it to the speed shop and see if he can help. I do want to thank you for your help, you did help me, just watching your videos was very educational. Also i've shared 1 of your videos on the facebook page and some of the other guys love your stuff. So keep up the great work, you say your not a professional mechanic, but you really explain what you're doing and you are helping guy-gals with the 84C4. Thanks again......Terry

Just found you on youtube. Question: my 84C4 in extreme hot weather was idling low and flooding out, I was told to replace the temp sensor to ECM, had that repair made, now car runs awful, idle erratic, check engine light came on, going to take to a shop, but they "all" hate on the crossfire, any suggestions?
@HorseshoeBeach
@HorseshoeBeach 4 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
metlmappr, if you changed the CTS on the front of the engine block, they are sensitive, torque is 9 Ft Lbs. (I think on the torque), too far in or not far enough in causes bad issues, ** if air got inside the cooling system, that will make the car run like it has a cracked block, ** after changing that cts sensor out, the car has to be driven at least 40 MPH for the ECM to store new data, or else it will use the old data it has stored...idling at operating temp will not be sufficient. SOME aftermarket CTS's do not have the correct OHM settings and although they say they FIT a 1984...not necessarily. NO one wants to work on these crossfire anymore, sad because they are incredible running engines, regardless of the rumors, and very easy to work on. The **THERMAC** system on these cars are responsible for a lot of idling issues...but other sensors causing issues are the IAC valves: idle, the MAP sensor, and the TPS...if it has a flat spot on it that will also cause stalling, all easy to work on and simple to diagnose. MOre than happy to help if I can.
@HorseshoeBeach
@HorseshoeBeach 4 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
if air got inside the cooling system it will hang up at the CTS, car will run horrible, have to flush the air out.
@HorseshoeBeach
@HorseshoeBeach 4 ะถั‹ะป ะฑาฑั€ั‹ะฝ
I can also tell you, regardless of what the FSM says or anyone else says, these old crossfires do not run well on 9 PSI they need at least 10 PSI otherwise they are seriously struggling.

I'm not a mechanic, just started working on my own cars as a teenager, purchased this Crossfire sitting on the side of the road in very poor shape, about 5 years ago. As you have found out, could NOT find anyone who wanted to get involved in it. Had one mechanic ask me to "COME PICK THIS UP". So I purchased a FSM and started taking it on one piece at a time, asking as yourself and learning as I went along.
