Becuse you did not have an accountant to help you plan your finances to limit the amount of taxes you paid. I was a tax preparer and saved my clients thousands of dollars by helping them plan for each year and the tax code laws. Many had businesses and pay only hundreds in taxes while making six digits income. Trump pays teams of accounts to di just that. Not illegal. Call knowing your laws and using them to your advantage.

For example, a corporation showing precisely equivalent income and expense is NOT unusual or alarming. If you don't believe me just look into forming your own corporation and learn about basic stuff like depreciation and dividends. If an S-Corp has a profit it is totally appropriate to pay out the profit to the shareholders, which results in a zero sum balance sheet. If you did show a profit you would still be REQUIRED to distribute all profit to the shareholders on the corporate tax return. It's literally the same result either way - the shareholders pay the taxes on the profits of the corp they own part of. Notably those taxes are not wages so they are not subject to social security tax and that's where most of your taxes go. You could be paying 7% FICA and still shelling out another 8% for SS. Moving your tax burden mostly over to FICA is a hella good reason to form a corporation! Cost you $100 to do so. Then all that equipment (cars, office stuff, etc) you place into service with the company can be depreciated and if you show a loss the first 3 years (you can do so 3 out of a clock of five) that loss reduces your taxable income. Trump def games the system and it's easy to see how. It's only prosecutable if you can prove he deliberately made numbers up, which is in Trumps case a foregone conclusion lol.

I took multiple Accounting courses in college. The one thing that is most ridiculous in the tax code, in my opinion, is Depreciation. The ability to depreciate a piece of property or company all the while it is INCREASING in REAL MARKET Value is an Absolute shitshow and the corporations and wealthy take full advantage of it because they helped get that tax code written for their benefit.

One aspect that no one seems to discuss is that I've never seen the IRS challenge the validity of claims of tax losses, capital or business operating. I remember a kid just out of college with a return with a stock loss of over a million dollars (due to a software error) without a peep from the IRS. Unchallenged, he could have used the carryover in future years to offset a million dollars in income. On a diffferent order of magnitude, I believe DJT knew this and concocted expenses, indeed, I hear that his returns have hundreds of lines captioned "Other expenses" to cause losses, knowing the chances that IRS would challenge them were slight.

The tax fraud has been going on much longer. The number of Donald’s companies and employees just pled guilty to 17 various counts of corruption and tax fraud. I think it will catch up with Donald, himself. I wonder how he’ll feel if he’s convicted. Well, I kind of know how he’ll feel, Donald tells us every day “biggest witchhunt ever”, hahaha.
