In this video I talk about Brazil, an amazing country growing in global importance. Lots of people think that Brazil is all jungle and beaches, but there`s a lot variety in this huge country!
Brazil is one of the most important countries in the world! While it is still considered a developing country because of its relatively low per capita GDP, overall it has a large and growing economy. It also has a large population of around 215 million in 2022, making it the fifth most populous country in the world.
Brazil is a very large country spanning 4 time zones, and features a variety of elevations, landscapes, and climates. Most people know about the tropical beaches of Rio de Janeiro and the Amazon Rainforest, but don't know about the highland plateau and other temperate areas.
Brazil is a very ethnically diverse country. Brazilians today descend from Brazil's native people, Portuguese settlers, enslaved African people, and a diverse range of immigrants. A very large percentage of the population is of mixed ethnic background.

Did you know Brazil has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan. I found out about that when I visited São Paulo. A place called Liberdade within the city.
@GEOfocusChannel

Yeah, there are also some Japanese Brazilian returnees here in Japan, too. Some are of Japanese and sone are mixed. A lot are from Sao Paulo, it seems. But they're much more Brazilian than Japanese.

***** I would visit Liberdade on Sundays during the summer, when I stayed for a couple of months. The younger generation eventually become standard locals/nationals, as similar to any country. Especially 3rd generation. I thought Koreans were concentrated in another area called Bras. I know Mooca has Italian influence, and that is about it. The city was too huge to explore everything in the small amount of time I was there. I do want to go back eventually. Also to become fluent in Brazilian Portuguese.

+alanguages +Otávio de Toledo I'm from São Paulo. I heard it was the largest population outside of Japan. And of course there are districts of chinese and korean communities, but mostly japanese downwards in Liberdade area in São Paulo. São Paulo is huge, Mooca has italian influence it's true and you have a neighborhood called Bixiga which is considered the "Little Italy" of São Paulo and it is not whithin the Mooca district.
@alanguages

+rickrvo The largest Japanese population is Japan, then Brazil. That is why I mentioned it was the 2nd largest population outside of Japan. I stayed and talked to people living in Mooca and noticed some of the words they said are Italian pronunciation. Casa is when I noticed it. I want to eventually return to São Paulo and stay for more than 8 months. I went to Livraria Cultura many times, but the store is very expensive. It is a great city and helped me orientate myself, especially the subway, so many people. I know even about 9 months won't be enough to explore all around.

+MultiSciGeek Tbh, in big cities, there is this interesting thing where a few (mainly the few truly massive cities of the country) can hardly be identified with a single culture, and at the same time many big cities are pretty unified with regional culture. This results into each state having a strong unique culture and the capitals being cosmopolitan and somewhat detached from the countryside.

I'd like to add... Samba is the most well-known, but we have a huge variety of musical genres here: Axé, Bossa Nova, Forró, Sertanejo and many others. I would say Samba is not as popular here anymore as it once was. Forró and Sertanejo are the most popular ones nowadays, in my opinion.

Besides, the country's territory is actually wider (from West to East) than longer (from North to South). @@Wesjapa100 well, this comment made me take a fun wikipedia trip. Apparently the entire US is about as big as China, and depending on how you count costal territories the US is bigger than China. There are a lot of Alaskan islands helping that number, but Alaska is very much counted. By the same metric where China is smaller than the US you wouldn't just be able to remove the ~600K km of Alaska and see that continental Brazil is bigger than the US But the US has a *LOT* more territories than Brazil, no matter how you put it, the continuous US territory has a smaller landmass than continuous Brazil.

i don't like this generalization of brazillian music, saying that it is only samba. samba is more in rio de janeiro, and only is played in all the country in february because of the carnival.but in the rest of the year most of brazil cities and regions don't play this music, there is a lot of types of music all around the country like: MPB, forró, axé, rock, frevo, sertanejo, bossa nova, etc. (my personal favorites are MPB, rock and frevo)

Brazil is life kkk!!! nice vídeo.. good job !!

Not going to lie I do envy all of those things. DDT (the chemical) did a ton of damage to wildlife in the US, but since it has been banned the animals are making a comeback, which is nice, but none the less, I would be cool as hell to live in the most bio diverse country in the world.
