I love how the dark stalkers are not only real/contemporary to the street fighters but they don't question their existence at all and how they just noped out of the final battle, given all the references and the expansive use of the final fight characters do you think they had a cap on universe planned? Also I heard the D&D cartoon was popular in Brazil is this true and if was there any bizarre media generated?

The thing is most of the comics published by Trama, written by Cassaro and his peers, were purposefully made to just introduce these characters and stories, since their main publication was RPG books and magazines, where they would adapt these characters for the general public. They would publish the comics, and then an RPG special, where you would have the characters stats to play and continue these stories.

Zangief showing up at Ken's party is a double callback to SFA2, referencing both Ken's stage ("Eliza's birthday", where several of the atendees are dressed up as Capcom characters, including some from DarkStalkers) and Zangief's boss fight against Ken, which takes place in the mentioned stage.

I think while the first two issues can be forgiven for the convenient plot points because this is in line with how a lot of the games sort of handles how some characters show up I suspect learning that the sales not making enough to warrant a longer run beyond the typical 5 issue test run forced them to do a lot of truncating of important plots and speed up key moments to hopefully reach the point where they can at least end on where they intended the first arc to end even if still has loose ends along with unresolved plot threads also the fact Ken choose a blonde and Ryu choose a Japanese high schooler should have been roped into the "Well isn't that convenient" line XD though I would love to know what was left out so that they could fast track to the end if there were things planned all that out of the way, thank you both for another great video as well as giving us a more convenient way to look this along with MK and SF2. all that's left is to have all the interview/editor/artist corner pages in there(because that's the only thing from Brazilian Mega Man that is actually entertaining from what you said). here's to a fun read and commissioning a translator later \*hug*

I learned about these comics some years ago, and I too found out that they pretty much didn't exist on the internet at the time. I eventually managed to get the 4 issues shipped to me from Brazil because I liked the art a lot and wanted to make scans of them some day. Good to know that now there are scans out there that are freely available to anyone!

I am from Brazil and I really like this comics, about the time the Street Fighter and the MK was very popular here as this comics and magazine, about The advertisement with an elfic lady is from a Brazilian magazine named Dragão Brasil more precisely Holy Avenger, which is a very good Brazilian manga.

I agree with you with the story department, it needed to be fleshed out more had it reached more issues personally. With that said, im suprised to find the Brazilian comic industry during the late 90's absolutely bonkers bananas. Before this, i only know about Monica's Gang having actual video game and anime characters as cameos in one of the later comics, which questions me on how the hell they where able to get them without copyright infringement. I know China has a different copyright system compared to the rest of the west, but does Brazil have a similar one?

The Tezuka characters are licensed, Monica's Gang creator Mauricio de Sousa used to be friends with him and Tezuka's estate allowed use of his characters for a crossover event that also served as an ONU PSA. Also Monica had official licensed crossovers with DC Comics and Overwatch, it is a very profitable IP on South America.

Monica had 3 games licensed by TECTOY (Sega softhouse in Brazil): "Mônica no castelo do Dragão", an authorized reprogrammed and re textured version of "Wonderboy in Monster Land" by Westone and Sega, "Turma da Mônica: O resgate" and "Turma da Mônica na Terra dos Monstros" based on Wonder boy 3 and Monster Land 4, respectively.

Crazy to think these things we're officially licensed. I remember buying and reading a few back in the day, but I didn't know much else. And the thing about all characters showing up at once as If they were always friends feels like the kind of thing you'd seen in the American cartoon. Also St1ka, I heard there used to be a SNK vs. Capcom Chaos Chinese comic, if you ever feel like into looking into that. I heard it offers some context for the game, since it had none in the first place.

You should take a look at the Marvel, DC and similar publications that Brazilian publishers made. When material was scarce and issues here were monthly, they simply mimicked the art style and made stories of their own. Excellent unauthorized X-Men stories where Jean Grey was less of a damsel in distress and more active in the plot and story or some in history's first unauthorized crossovers. Great Stuff, I do Garantee. Speaking on the material on this video and the style of some drawings, remember, it was the 90s. You know, a lot of early Image Comics and Rob Liefeld Influence.

To be honest even in the games, it was canonical that Karin and Sakura did train under Ken and Ryu. Heck it was meant by Capcom to push parallels of these characters.

Err... nope. Canonically speaking, Sakura imitates Ryu's fighting style and moves after watching him on TV, and then locates and follows him, intending to be his disciple; he allows her to tag along for a while, but clarifies that he can't be his master as he's still training himself. By the time of SFIV, they're good friends and are known to spar with each other from time to time. As for Ken and Karin, they know each other because of the social and economical status of their families, and are well acquainted with each other, with Karin holding Ken in high regard due to his superior fighting ability, but that's it - they are not master and disciple, nor training partners even.

Ahh cool, I only managed to borrow issue 3 from a friend when I was a teenager (and there's when R.Mika became my waifu XD) so I never knew where the story was coming or going... I never thought 4 issues would be enough (suprise surprise, it didn't 😅). I don't know if the writer had much of an idea of the plot of SFZ3 but it mostly reads like the plot of SFA2 some of the newer characters from 3 thrown in with little consequences and as side plot basically Final fight Redux. And for all the darkstalkers elements I get the feeling either the writer or the artist was lobbying for a Darkstalkers comic adaptation. The whole stage of Ken in Sfa2 is basically that back up story of Ken fighting Zangief and "encountering" R.Mika(which led me believe she was a Russian fighter too, but seeing it know it might've been only Ken's mistake assuming she was Russian since she was with Zangief).

I think it's pretty difficult to write a story that juggles so many characters in just 4 issues. So I can definitely understand the limitations

@@st1ka It's difficult, sure. But all we really needed from an Alpha comic was Sagat joining Bison, while Cammy escapes, and Charlie's seeming death. Throw in a fight where Ryu defeats Sagat again, and Ken uses part of his red clothing to bandage a Ryu head injury. Have Cammy sent to kill Charlie. Charlie can refuse to injure/kill her, because she's a kid. (The winner isn't as important as what happens after.) Cammy can start experiencing doubts based on his behavior. Nobody's ever showed her any kindness before...or have they? Why can't she remember? For Charlie, however, he's not in any position to handle another attack... His next attacker is where we end. Probably Bison, though I'd use Sagat to show how far he's fallen and to also have Cammy being spared make sense. Plus it brings the plot full circle and leaves Bison as the final boss. Either way - To be continued. And that's it. All of this could be handled in one issue. That gives you three entire issues to play around with the rest of the cast and just have fun with it. Do a Final Fight issue. Have an issue where a wandering fighter worries about Sakura after he's trained her to defeat Karen, because he recognizes the darkness in her. You can reference evil Ryu and Dark Sakura at the same time! You can throw in Rose or Akuma as main event fights/tests of his character, and keep it all plot relevant! This can explain why Sakura sits out the events of Street Fighter 2. And you could take a full two issues to really do it all justice. This is all off the top of my head, having never even considered how you'd adapt an Alpha comic before. Or ever working in the comics industry. And sure, it's one thing to say it and another to actually expand on it, but I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who thinks they could do better than "And suddenly, everything works out for the writer at the last possible second!"

@@st1ka Agreed. And please don't get me wrong, an actual comic book is a million times better than an online post. It takes discipline to get it done, people skills to find a good team, and enough self-confidence to throw yourself out there and promote your work. That last requirement is why I didn't join the industry, in the end. Perfectionism is an issue, and just writing that post wrecked me afterwards. The point wasn't to put myself over or anything, it's just to raise awareness that it's possible to write for large casts in limited formats. Arcane, Into the Spider-verse, The Boys, Doom Patrol, even parts of the MCU, they're all great at offering tips for how a writer might tackle a Street Fighter Alpha adaptation. (They'd all get extended runs, sure, but Arcane does a lot with the first three episodes, and just how many obscure characters became household names after a single Guardians of the Galaxy movie?) And it's equally important to learn from seriously flawed adaptations like the Alpha comic, because they show future writers the exact challenges they're going to face. You've probably saved someone a serious headache down the road. So apologies if I was too harsh or too dismissive in my previous post - I really love that this episode even exists. Tbh, I actually have a lot of respect for this comic for the art alone considering how hard it likely was to get someone that can make something this good in 90s Brazil, especially in this specific kind of style, and in general both the art and the characters are pretty faithful to the source material, which I also really enjoy; I mean, yeah, sure, the story isn't as good as it could be and certainly feels half-baked, but considering the quality of other comics that were based on other Capcom properties (at least when compared to the Megaman one anyway since that's the one I know best), seeing this being as good as it is is kinda refreshing lol (ah é, e se alguém tá querendo saber, sim, sou BR tbm; só tô falando em inglês pros gringos mesmo kkkkkkk)

Ha!, I'm from Uruguay and I had a few of these books, I used to buy them in a street store 20+ years ago when I used to travel time to time to a town located in the uruguayan-brazilian border didn't know there was also a brazilian MK one, also I didn't knew these were made completely in Brasil, I thought these were brazilian versions translated to portuguese from an original that I thought, was originally in english... the stories will make you laugh if you read them today.
