I’ll be honest, I was expecting a philosophical/ethical debate when I clicked on this video 😂 I can see why people prefer the ending that undoes the cataclysm but now that you’ve explained your reasoning I can see why you don’t agree with it. It reminds me of studying philosophy/ethics at A Levels and having debates in the class over situations like this!

I had to think about it for a bit, and I'm not even sure yet if I'm 100% certain about these answers having not played the game myself. That being said: 1) By going back and changing the past we negated the existence of potential people. And I can't really get too upset about it because it involves so many "what ifs" that it just becomes meaningless. For instance, maybe the delusional guy we met gets a better life in the new timeline, maybe he gets a worse one, maybe he doesn't exist at all, there's just no way to know. 2) Losing all memory of the events that transpired IS a tragedy. As you point out that means that no lessons were learned, and the sacrifices made (including the erasure of the timeline those people belonged to) have been forgotten. It does make the "fix the past" ending more bittersweet than I believe the developers intended. 3) Accepting that you screwed up the past and moving forward is the more satisfying ending, even if it benefits the lesser number of people. It's more impactful if the characters have learned lessons and grown through their journeys versus getting to do everything over from a blank slate. If they time travel ending didn't involve losing their memories I might have felt otherwise, but like I said before the sacrifices in that ending lose their weight when they are instantly forgotten.

I think the fact that reincarnation is part of the lore for this world the idea that the people who would be born as a result of the first timeline being disappeared might have a bit of nuance to it. If the soul is immortal in this world then the people who were born in the broken world, would probably be born in a different form as well.

This is a tough choice Because in a real sense none of the endings are really happy, just a solution and each has their own heavy forms of compromise. I'd probably go with one of the first two endings myself, but I can see why someone may like the third ending, even though it does erase the efforts of everyone involved.

Haven't gone through the video yet, just started it. But I remember this game the second you brought up the title. Cousin rented it from a local video store, started it infront of me but finished it while I wasn't there. So I totally am now going to have a look around for a copy now that I remember the name.

This might be a hot take, but I love goofy low quality dubs in JRPGs. As someone who grew up playing games with bad English dubs, I can laugh at bizarre line reads while still being invested in the story.

@TheRetroMartin2 сағат бұрын
Hah, I remember playing the demo of Granstream Saga back in the day. I picked it up myself in the early 2000s and got a few islands in before not continuing. I restarted it last year as part of a 12 RPG challenge I'm doing and fully completed it. It's hardly the best RPG ever but the first one with fully 3D models and scenery in its entirety. It had some fun story beats as well, that little choice at the end was quite unique and the animated FMVs were ace. I found it funny you could get the strongest weapon in the game right at the start 😂 I'd definitely class it as a 7/10 game. Not great, but not bad. The combat system was awesome though. Fun soundtrack also. I would never have completed it without a guide, some of the bits you have to do are incredibly obtuse in ways old 8 bit RPGs could do at times. Great stuff St1ka!

Another reason time travel is almost always a bad narrative decision. Giving you a time traveling option to undo everything is as much of a dumb move as saying it was all just a dream and meant nothing.
