Brazilian Battleship "Rio de Janeiro" Review - World of Warships Blitz

It's an Agincourt, but with a Brazilian close-range brawler twist. Only that she's barely faster than a standard-class battleship, which means you somewhat rely on the enemy team to be accommodating in that regard. Still, it's one for the memes alright.

After unlocking the ship tonight and playing a couple battles, I agree with your assessment. It's not a great ship but I think it IS fun. It's somewhat unique and I did manage to get the unique camo and extra commander for it from the event. Because it's a T5 ship, I think I will have a lot more fun with it. Average ships are better at lower tiers where you face more inexperienced players. An average T8 ship is much less fun to play.

I just acquired the ship yesterday I only have a level 2 commander for it. I'll have to do some grinding for this ship. Speed sucks. I went back to my black kongo lastnight (with a level 10 commander) and completely wiped all the RIOs that popped up on the north American server.

In conclusion, it is a Secondary Agincourt with a long reload on the main guns. I don't have the Agincourt myself, but I do still would get this ship all the same. This is a worthy opponent for the Derfflinger, who also has a Secondary Overload.

I got this ship in one day. I find myself 1v1ing T7s thnx to my div mates taking T6s. The AP is underwhelming so I almost never use it. I HE spam in this thing and 7km secs are really nice, especially the reload. Great ship to get for free

You get 4s base reload on the secondaries in return, but - and that's a decent but - they have to be in range for you to use that. And you can do 22kn downhill with tail wind

She relies entirely on enemy ships deciding to fight at secondary range. Which isn't that great with 6.6km. if that doesn't happen, she's an Agincourt with a really poor reload.

Please, no… Atlantico has made t8 a terrible experience playing most other BBs. No need to inflict the same on t10, it’s bad enough with two or three Shimas in most battles.

@@kardy12 Idk... I think all ships have counters and ways to deal with them. With Atlanticos, stay stay outside 10.5(?)km and if you can get the team to focus on them, problem solved. Ppl cry about Smolensk, but theyre instantly countered by IT BBs or a Minnesota/Vermont. Colombo being a problem? HE spammers teamed with DDs can (carefully!) eliminate a CC issue quickly. Shimas are certainly pests, but they have cures too, and they arent nearly as terrifying as they were years ago. In fact, im grinding for it now. But i digress... Point being, yeah the Atlantico can be savage, but I dont think its OP, and dont think a similar line would break the game. Somthimg that probably proves this out is my Atlantico had about an 80% WR for about a month. Then it dropped to 60, which is about average for me. People figured out how to deal with it...

@@wheels-n-tires1846 Italian BBs we’re introduced after the Smolensk, which helped make it less potent. Moreover, the Colombo was nerfed after it was introduced (not exactly unusual for WG to release new ships only to nerf them later) - IIRC at least the dispersion on the guns was increased for many of the Italian BBs. Of course ships have counters and ways to deal with them. But just because a ship has some vulnerabilities, that doesn’t mean it’s strengths aren’t a tad overdone. For example, the Odin’s GK autosecondaries are a tad overpowered, but the rest of the ship is not particularly strong relative to its tier. The Atlantico by contrast has even better and longer range secondaries (it’s practically got a cruiser strapped on each side), and as good if not better armour than the GK at tier 10 to boot. On 1-on-1 tests, no t8 or t9 ship outbrawls it - it takes a GK or Yamato to do it. If that isn’t overpowered, I guess nothing ever will be. Personally, I haven’t seen much change on the EU server to be honest. I play mainly randoms and am not a particularly skilled player, but my win percentage on the Atlantico is still around 70%, compared to my average in the mid-50s (so not particularly skilled) and the low 60s I have in the Odin (though that used to be above the mid-60s until the Atlantico was released) which was my go to brawler at t8 before the Atlantico. 100k+ damage scores are far more common than I have with any other ship, and my destruction ratio in the mid-4s in the Atlantico compared to mid-2s on average. I’ve seen how people try to counter it - and just like they can try to use distance and map features to counter me, I can do the same particularly if the other players on my team are decent. And most of the time I do end up on the loosing side in an Atlantico, it’s not because the opposing side focused me down early, but rather that even an Atlantico cannot always carry a worse playing team to a win even you do more damage than anyone else in the game - and again, it’s not because I’m an exceptional player, but because the Atlantico flatters an otherwise decent if unspectacular player. Then of course there’s the matchups where the opposite team is primarily t9s with one t8 while you have the reverse ratio - but even if that’s the case I’d rather be in an Atlantico than any other t8 ship.

Thankfully it’s not another Atlantico. Having finally got it (been busy so took a while to get the requisite wins), and first impressions are similar. Similar to the Atlantico it is a brawler, but it’s not as ridiculously OP as the Atlantico is. If anything, it’s quite average, but fun to play and I guess not something any destroyer player will relish trying to get close to. The seven turrets have an odd layout, particularly the three aft turrets where the forward-most turret has to turn the other way compared to the other two when switching from one side to the other, and can take a while to get on target. At range they seem to have pretty poor penetration - I even got what seemed like full AP hits on a destroyer at maximum range so I guess it didn’t overpenetrate. 😂

I don’t have anything against brawlers. I find them much more interesting than sitting at range and lobbing shells like the RN ships. And for a long time the meta of the game hasn’t favoured brawlers either. The question is whether it’s OP for a brawler at that tier, and so far to my experience the Rio isn’t - not like the Atlantico at t8.

👉 Terry has already posted a "how to kill Atlantico" video over 3 weeks ago. 🚫The Atlantico isnt as OP as it was originally made out to be. It has some significant disadvantages. When I started playing my Atlantico, it seemed OP. But it only took about 3 weeks before enemy players began focusing HARD on killing my Atlantico from the moment I'm spotted! *Atlantico* *Disadvantages* 1). It has at 5,000 less HP than a few other tier 8 battleships. 2). Even with a deck protection module, it still burns like a gasoline soaked Christmas tree! 3). It's main guns are inaccurate over 6km - 7km. 4). Its main guns have no HE option 5). It's AP shells aren't as reliable at getting citadels as other tier 8 battleship guns. 6). It's fairly slow

I wouldn't say that the Rio is superior at tier 5, either. Decent ship with some fun destroyer-instakill moves, but good luck standing up to HE spammers that refuse to get into secondary range, or battleships armed with 356mm guns...

@@HighlanderNorth1 Doesn’t change the fact that more often than not when there are Atlantico’s in the battle they are the highest scoring ship. And the fact that ships have to focus on the Atlantico (because most t8 BBs one on one don’t stand much chance if the Atlantico gets within 11km or so) creates opportunities for the rest of the team. Within secondary range it’s like a Smolensk that is incredibly hard to sink, and at t8 - and the Smolensk is regarded OP at t10 (which is why people apply the same rule - if you see it, focus it down before it gets a chance to sink you). It’s certainly made grinding tech tree BBs at t7 and t8 harder. Even a lot of t9 BBs will be outbrawled by the Atlantico.

@@kardy12 Yeah, I'd be lying if I said the Atlantico isn't somewhat OP, and here's why I'm defensive when it comes to calls to heavily nerf it: It's my very 1st premium ship above tier 7. Although I'll occasionally spend $11.99 on the monthly premium account, I just can't see spending $50 or more on a single tier 8+ premium ship. I've spent years wishing I had a Roma or some other really good t8 premium. But now I FINALLY got my T8 premium ship, and I don't want it nerfed to irrelevance..... ☹️ 👉 Atlantico is the first brawler I've ever devoted any time to playing. It's completely changed my opinion on brawling. 👉Despite only having AP main guns, Atlantico is good at dispatching destroyers. It won't delete them in 1-2 salvos like British or Italian BBs, but it's effective. Only the smartest destroyer players on the best destroyer maps have a chance at taking it out. 👉My personal Atlantico stats are pretty darn good after 60 battles. My WR with it is actually slightly below my overall WR, but still, 64% isnt bad. I'm doing 73k DPG, I'm averaging 2.02kpg, My destruction ratio is over 8! So imma gonna keep downplaying any calls for nerfing it! Mua ha ha ha! 🤙
