When attempting an armbar be ready for your opponent to lock his hands in several possible way to prevent the finish. Here are a few of my favourite was to split his grip.

The americana to break the grip is genius, and I will most likely forget it until I randomly re-watch this again in a year haha.

+Tristar Gym I love how you explained that straightening the kimura grip basically increases the radius he has to go around you, which is the reason you have time to take the back. You have such a clear-headed way of perceiving the deeper meaning and reasons behind BJJ techniques.

Thank you for this Firas. I've been struggling with finishing the armbar for sometime. I'm usually more successful with chokes, but joint locks are my favorite things.

You can also put your legs over their arm like a triangle choke and pull on their elbow joint with a RNC grip, it will snap their forearm if they don't break their grip. I will try all of these Firas! Thanks for making these videos, they are great.

Hey Firas, I just wanna say this video had been a game changer, as with most of your instructional vids. Please keep em coming. I do have a question regarding the grip breaks though, if you would be so kind to enlighten me. Are the above grip breaks equally applicable in a Knee on belly style armbar position with my leg tucked under his armpit? As well as in a triangle armbar style position where by one of my legs is placed above his shoulders as opposed to across his nipple line. Thanks for your time.

Do you use the spiderweb position for the armbar too? I've been playing with both the Kimura grip you showed as well as the spiderweb position. What's your opinion about the different grips? What situations do you prefer the kimura grip? and what situations do you prefer the spiderweb grip if any?

coach, do you prefer to have the extended hand(on the arm that is getting armbarred) in the shoulder? I noticed you put the hand in the shoulder and not the middle of the chest. Lance the American.

I really your videos and really like your mentality about making your jiu jitsu universal. How do you feel about training sport specific styles like the spider guard etc? I have a lot of success with this guard but I know it's not universal ...So that's kind of a dilemma for me
@CoachZahabi

John Hanson thank you! I actually Like spider Guard and find it help me in no gi. Instead of using it as a position I use it as a transition. Keep doing spider Guard but be sure to also do lots of know gi.

What is your preference, crossing your ankles when finishing the arm bar or keeping your feet parallel; either on top or bottom.

Well Coach Z, if you're so kind as to take requests, I'd throw one into the hat; Guillotine choke. Renzo Gracie was around sharing some nice details... but I wasn't there + I'm confused with all the options... Marcelo style, 5 finger, 10 finger, old school... and of course entry into. What's your data say? Oss
