Brazilian Raintree - Sacrificial Branch

A Brazilian Raintree from Erik Wigert’s Collection, gets it’s sacrificial branch removed. Wigert's Bonsai is located in SWFL North Fort Myers, Florida. Open daily from 9am- 5pm year round!
SCIENTIFIC NAME: Chloroleucon tortum Syn. Pithecellobium tortum
COMMON NAME: Brazilian Raintree
UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS: BRAZILIAN RAIN TREE is a very popular bonsai species that is great for African-style flat top bonsai, as well as many other styles. Gorgeous vibrant compound foliage that closes up at night and when it rains. Trunk flutes as it matures, and has a naturally exfoliating bark. Very hardy, fast growing tree. Raintree is a tropical plant that should be kept away from freezing temperatures. Tree likes full/ partial sun and moderate water and fertilizer.

Thanks Wigerts. I learned a lot in this video. I always left a lot for die back when cutting bigger branches on the trunk. Did not know that the sap flow should help it not die back so much. As soon as I watched this video I cut them closer to the trunk. Thanks! I’m only two hours from you guys I need to make the drive. Just need a grand or so before I come 😂🤷🏼‍♂️
